Toadstool Solo Speedrun Kill on Day 13 (original Toadstool before the nerf)

Recommended Posts

I made this video several days ago, and I was planning to release it on Thursday, but I just saw the latest update where the devs caved to complaints and nerfed Toadstool considerably, so I guess I'll just release it now. Like I said in another comment, I remember initially when the community consensus was that the DST Dragonfly was ludicrous in how overpowered it is, but now months later, the devs need to implement buffs because people figured out how to handily defeat it. That's how things usually go. People inevitably complain about things being too hard when monumental challenges are first introduced, but let the dust settle and people will most likely figure things out.

Initially I wanted to post a speedrun attempt a few hours after the release of the update since the devs specifically talked about Toadstool speedruns and solo attempts in Rhymes with Play, and I thought it'd be kinda funny to immediately have a speedrun out :p, but my first successful attempt took me 26 days. It was kinda meh, so I decided to take a bit more time to learn about and practice Toadstool. I managed to knock it down to 13 days.

P.S. here's a timestamp link to the fight for those who don't want to sit through nearly 2 hours of content: fight

I wonder what was the amount of damage you were dealing in charging mode... I think Wolfgang was dealing 5xDMG (charge) + the DMG modifier of being Mighty Wolfgang... It's a shame you don't use "Damage Indicators," that would have been so much easier to actually see :)

Nice vid... and you are awesome, by the way :)

I did use the damage indicators mod in testing actually. According to the mod, the effective multiplier is ~1.5-2x base damage... and this is for Wolfgang, bunnymen, and even the tentacle dudes that the thulecite club spawns. I dunno how accurate the mod is, but that's what it showed.

I mean... when Toadstool was channeling, he used to take 5 times more DMG (recently patched) + Mighty Wolfgang's DMG modifier.... I mean... in numbers... did you read the numbers while in charge mode, compared to the normal attacks' numbers?? Damage Indicator shows numbers not percentages... So... are we talking about the same mod?

By the way... I also used Bunnymen to help me out... They are real fighters and don't eat your **** :)

Once upon a time, in lives of Bunnymen appeared a small dot of light. It was hope. They found a brave, moustached explorer. He decided to help them make their greatest dream come true. First Bunnymen football team to be ever made! Pigmen were about to **** their pants. They are all-time champions in this sport discipline. It is no suprise, because their team is the only one. But things are about to change...
Unfortunately, there was one problem. Big problem. 156,5k hp of problems, to be sure. Yes, the Toadstool itself. After appearing in caves, he started his strict reign. A new reign. No creature can leave this place! (This is DST, remember) Moustached explorer had lots of adventures and epic fights on his account, and there was no way he's gonna give up. He didn't have the heart to refuse helping poor Bunnymen. Time to teach ugly mushy man a lesson! (extra-manly tuba accent). I'm mighty! No one is mightier! We will fight for your dreams!
They arrived to his office - elegant guano carpets, private swimming ponds and stuff. Time to axe you a question, Frog!
chop chop chop
And the epic fight began. A couple of (almost) fresh carrots, just like Bunnymen do. Shiny, thulecite armor. And football helmets, of course. They fought side by side. So they were dying. Yes, this story doesn't have a happy ending. Corageous Bunnymen died. But they died in glory. They fought to the end. Fought for their hopes and dreams. When the last of them died, the Mighty Explorer embraced in rage. He swallowed another carrot and strated chopping Toad's body like a piece of pork. He succeed. The Toadstool is dead!
This story teaches us something. Something really important. Never give up! Follow your dreams!

For example, if base damage was 100, in its channeling it was somewhere between 150 and 200.

Wow. Very impressive, @BluesyBuesy. As you mention in the beginning of the video, this should end all discussions about him being "impossible" for even a 3 man group. The timing of your video is also impeccable, as the nerf just came out. Thank you for proving to us that he is doable (and on day 13... WOW). You just won a new subscriber.

Edit: #maketoadstoolimpossibleagain

Nope... it was actually 500 while channeling, in that scenario.. I think... I'm not sure if Mighty Wolfgang'S DMG with a Thulecite Club is actually 100... That`s what I'm asking... I was just wondering if you actually payed attention to the numbers the mod showed you.... You know... the floating numbers the mod shows you with every attack...

I wish I would have seen them... Because I used a similar strategy to yours, but I used Wigfrid and didn't give them any PROT to my Bunnymen.. and I didn't get.... So i was wondering how much DMG was Wolfgang with his Mighty Modifier combined with the channeling numbers (x5 DMG) dealing

What else would I possibly have paid attention to if not the enormous moving numbers on the screen?

ok... geez.... sorry

The thing is that you are not telling the numbers... For instance, I saw some 115 DMG (EDIT) hits with Wigfrid while Toadstool was channeling... Just curious how much DMG was Wolfgang dealing, that's all :)

Sorry for asking so much... I'm just just legitimately curious :)

I haven't logged into steam since the update, so I snapped a quick video (and yes, before you ask, his hunger is at a constant because of godmode)

Wow... that's interesting... Thanks... 135 constant DMG hit is amazing :) The average with Wigfrid was much less 74 with a Thulecite Club...  Mighty Wolfgang's DMG with a Thulecite Club was 119.. WOW..

Edit: I did recorded myself too ... In channeling mode she was dealing 115 DMG hits

Thanks for clarifying that for me :) It seems like a Mighty Wolfgang can replace three normal players... Well.. That's something :)

My face when: not only he used my strat (much appreciated), but that 1 minute ago on Reddit I asked if this had been posted to the Klei Forums already... Then I get a notification. Great timing all around.

Congrats for coming up with a strat, but I started doing bunnyman runs a few hours after the release (trying to speedrun the speedrun :-P). Not that it's too hard to come up with though. I mean, bunnymen are 1HKO, so just pop some armor on 'em.

I agree... It's a very logical strat for every DST player

Hey no problem, it was just an old PVP strat. Dampay's the one who thought of it originally but I took it to the next stage. Instead of a few pigs, I used Bunnies, and gave them armor to boot. I also hammered and rebuilt the houses I made for even more bunnies. https://www.twitch.tv/the_only_kcda/v/68808282 It's nothing special, and I'm just happy to see it being used, let alone adapted to new purposes.

Keep up the good work.

Very nice run man! This video should go to everyones message box that is posting in update thread that Toad is hard or impossible or whatever. I hope everyone can imagine now how it will look with our new Toad :/

BTW using Rock Lobsters could be even better IMO. The largest ones deal more than 2x dmg than Bunnymen and they wont die that easily. I dont know tho how exactly Toad attacks work and if Lobsters wont be all the time hiding. Anyway for new toad you can go easily with spiky Hutch and it will be enough .)

I don't think so... Rockies will stay in "refuge mode" after the first set of bombs...

Cant you feed the rockies to get them out of safe mode, or is that just single player?

you can... but then you miss the chance of dealing damage yourself

Are you crazy? We want to defeat the toad not end all his dreams and family.

You should poke him with a stick, at least it is the less brutal method that I have found. (I'm open to suggestions)

Do it with Wendy Solo and say again its possibel. The Boss was actually Impossibel for the general Peopel, and that was the point of the Discuess not every Dont Starve user want to play a Specific charackter to kill a Boss except Speedrunner peopel that like challenges etc. But the Boss should be Legit killing possibel with a Casual gameplay and some preparing and Strategy and not the Top of the Top end best prepared way with just best Rng.

Its cool u accomplished this for u but what i read from the topic was its To op for majority of DS Players and thats why i +1 the Toadstool Tweaks atm to Polish him out.

Greetings
