It is a fact that a wired connection is faster and more stable than a wireless connection, so this could contribute to lag issues. However, it should still be playable with a wireless connection, depending on the quality of your connection.

I would not recommend hosting with a wireless connection, though.

Especially on a laptop! No, hosting (except for a solo game) was not something I ever even considered. We have a rented server. The game is playable, it's just that in single player I could always easily kite three-spider attacks, and now they always hit me.

What is your ping with this server? You can see it in the lobby next to the server name.

I don't know how to answer your first question. It's a Citadel server. We have a cave server from them as well and so far it's just two players, but we're adding a third. As it is I still sometimes get a tiny bit of rubber banding, so I'm concerned.

If you're experiencing rubber banding... Have you even disabled prediction? If you go into options, you can check whther it's enabled or disabled for you.

I did try disabling prediction for a while, but the result was just as annoying in a different way, which is that the character's movements are less responsive the mouse, and I don't use AWSD

Honest? While it's obvious that Wi-Fi will always be weaker than ethernet, I can host 16-slot multi-sharded servers from my two laptops. People come from Europe, both Americas and Asia. I have never hosted from a stationary PC, yet somehow players report the game works better for them when I host than when using some dedis. I'd pay more attention to your RAM. It's crucial. Don't touch hosting with less than 16 GB. I have experiences with hosting from a machine with 8 GB. Playable, but worlds away from 16 and 32 GB.

By the way, I am the most perplexed person when it comes to my hosting capabilities. I played with many and lagged, yet they joining my worlds are fine. If somebody would like to check how it works, I'd be forever beholden. For now, I'm sticking with the concept of RAM, processor and a bucket of luck.

Oh, well... Then I can't help you there, mate... You gotta learn the WASD way (or AWSD as you call it)! I play with these keys most times and it's flawless :D

A little off topic, but since you mentioned the paying part,no I didn't get what I paid for.I paid for a game where I can enjoy the same level of experience I had with the previous game with friends.Instead I get underpowered versions of willow, maxwell and woodie while an overpowered version of wx-78,a buffed version of wickerbottom (since there's an insane amount of berries in the game),a buffed wilson (he doesn't need 4 freakin meat to make an effingy ) and everyone else being kinda balanced but not really.

Personally I'm turning back to don't starve where there are not client and server mods, where I can do so much more stuff with many more characters and the characters feel balanced.

And where in the b***y hell is my PAUSE BUTTON?I demand one to be activated by the admin (that is me,in my solo games or with close friends on pve servers). It's 2016 ffs and we don't have a pause button on a multiplayer game.

Because we can't control the local time to us. Pausing and un-pausing done by everybody, for instance... well, that would just be annoying as hell. One person pauses, everyone gets paused, then somebody un-pauses and then the person who paused becomes idle and such... Yeah, it wouldn't work, unfortunately :(

It must be implemented on a player hosted level.I should be able to have friends who join my server (not the klei ones or dedicated ones),check an option "allow pause in-game" and implement the pause function. It can work but they haven't implemented it yet because of reasons.

I managed to find a kind-of pause function myself.I use the task manager on windows to pause dont starve together and unpause it (works only when playing solo). If I managed to make something so simple,I'm pretty sure the godlike devs can manage something a little more complicated.

i hope you're joking

We are renting a server, but I can't seem to get out of the spiders' way in time. I'm playing on a laptop that, unfortunately, does not have a port to connect directly to my modem, so I have to use wireless. Could that be a source of the lag? I haven't really played multiplayer games before so wasn't aware of these issues. We've been using the "let's you and him fight" strategy for the giants, but the tier-three spider nests and burning their way through our battle helms.

I actually play on a wirelessly connected laptop, myself. It just kind of depends on the equipment and the environment I guess. I will say that I play with a controller, so it's a little easier for me to deal with the tight timing.

Nobody told you the game would be exactly the same as it is in single player and it's not reasonable to expect it would have been, so this is on you.

Ahahaha, demand. Mmk. At any rate, I can't think of a lot of online multiplayer games where you can pause, and I can only imagine the implementation being clumsy and problematic. For solo play, pausing is incredibly simple: log out. For group play, if you want everybody to stop, have everybody log out; if not, just log yourself out, and everybody else can keep playing. I'd kind of like to be able to manually pause the sim, myself, but I know that it's not as simple as you seem to think it would be.

The host cannot log out unless it is a dedi. Even then, the hosting station must carry on. One CAN effectively pause, however, through something like AFK Detection. The world goes on  - it is a multiplayer game after all - but you do not lose stats while motionless for a given time.

I have not actually reported anything through the actual Bug Tracker in ages... whoops! Wait... It says it's archived... And also I think the problem with the bug tracker lies in the fact that you cannot post a topic like you can with others; you have to specifically go to a pinned topic and click on a certain button where Joe has put up a post... No wonder there has been no bug reports since... Omg FEBRUARY?!

Everyone else can continue to talk and post their concerns, just wanted to let you (and others) know about bug reports ...

Klei got a new provider for hosting their forums in the past year or so, and did some redesigning. They also recently changed providers for bug reports. The DST and DS: Shipwrecked bug trackers are in a new location, which is why the old pages are now archived. The new provider handles submissions in a different way, which doesn't work with the old system anymore.

Up at the very top of the page of these forums, there will be some tabs and links:

Browse | Activity

Forums | Downloads | Game Updates | Klei Bug Tracker | Guidelines

Click on "Klei Bug Tracker" and there you go. Additionally, visiting the old (archived) DST bug tracker, there's a link at the top for "Submit a bug report". That will automatically submit the report to the new tracker page/provider.

@JoeW, just wondering, could perhaps ALL game bug trackers be consolidated into the new tracker page, for consistencies sake?

I will look at unifying the bug reports more. We have a lot of stuff we are working on, so it might be a bit before I can get to it though.

Understood... it's not totally essential, just thought it would be nice to have them all in one place. Thanks for such a quick update!

(Also, go home! :p You all will have enough late nights coming up, get some R&R in while you can!)

It has singe player capabilities . It has to have a pause button.Imagine a single player strategy or a fps game where if I want to pause the game I'll have to go to the main menu. It's not changing the game mechanics,it just makes our lives easier. It's logic 101.I can't understand why people are objecting this,it's illogical.

It only has "single player capabilities" in that you can run the server software without letting anybody connect to it, which is different from the actual single player modes of the games you mention. It doesn't have to have a pause button, and there's nothing illogical about it.

Then we clearly have a problem regarding what is logical and what is good for the community.
