Other Characters' Back Stories?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know any of the other characters' backstory (or even their last names for that matter)?

We know Wilson's, Maxwell's, and even a little of Charlie's but what about the others?

Wilson may be the most 'well-known' of them, but I know quite a few people that never even play as him. (I do but some of my steam friends don't.) :/

I'm just really curious :3

Thanks alot :D

We kind of know Wendy and Abigail were relatives of Jack Carter. Possibly even his daughters, hence William's nieces.

Wolfgang and Wes probably worked in the same circus which was travelling by train before it crashed.

Willow lived in an orphanage at some point.

Wigfrid is actually an actress, probably specialising in historical plays and the so-called engaged acting.

Webber lived on a goat farm with at least his mother, father and grandfather. Until he was turned into an arachnomorph (I like to imagine it was Maxwell seeking his first transient - he found Webber sleeping, transformed him, then offered his help when the poor kid woke up). He was the first victim of his and then died (well, was frozen in time, sort of, to be "revived" later).

Wes somehow displeased Maxwell. Do not brave AO3 to read people's ideas how exactly.

...That's not what AO3 says, and I'm immensely glad for that, Sir or Madam.

My good Sir, you've been duly warned...

In all seriousness, I run a voluntary literary cafe for young authors and thus have to brave the depths of AO3 and FF.net from time to time. You DO NOT want to read Maxwell's portrayals there. It's negatively twisted, most of the time.

just a random question :p

IIRC Willson's around 30, and Willow's around 20. The rest have not been revealed, but Wendy and Webber are children.

We know nothing about WX78 then? Also what about the shipwrecked characters?

LMAO SW lore. Now there's a joke for you.

Pretty much what everyone else says. Although I'd like to add my own opinions about Wendy and Abigail...

--If they are "the twins" mentioned in Jack Carter's letter (and to me, they totally are) and you pay attention to the dates, then either Wendy (and possibly Abigail, before she died?) are both teenagers, or some time-warping stuff happened.  I can see this as still working.  I mean, if Willow can have that hairstyle in her 20s, then Wendy and Abigail can wear cute little flowers in their hair at age 16 or so. Also, all of Wendy's "Life is meaningless, death is the only answer" stuff COULD also work just as well for an emo teenager.

So, as I see it, she's kind of the REALLY proto version of "I'm'a go paint all my walls black and listen to Linkin Park in my room, SCREW you guys!" type...except with an actual _reason_ to act that way. : P

--Not that this is actually genetic--in the real world--but notice that some of the time, Maxwell and Wendy actually kind of TALK like each other.  Have them both on the same server and you'll see it even more clearly.  "I am empty inside"/"I am filled with emptiness" is just one example.  I like to think of this as another bit of "evidence" that they're related.  Because by Don't Starve logic, WHY NOT.

--How did Abigail die?  For some reason, it seems the most popular fanon answer for this is "Wendy killed her".  I think people like this purely because Rule of Dramatic--there's absolutely NO evidence of it in any of her speech files.  Not guilt, not "What have I done?!", not fear of being caught, not even bragging about how she's so clever she'll NEVER get caught.  I think people just like the "dun dun DUUUNNNN!!" plot twists and Wendy is dark and creepy, so there you go.

(Me?  I think she possibly died of the "Spanish Flu" epidemic at the end of WWI, which fits the timeline and was a depressingly common way to die in around 1918-1919.  Hey, if we can incorporate the San Francisco 1906 earthquake into the story, why not? This may not be as much "fun" as the other story, but it at least doesn't contradict anything.)

And I've got my own theories about how the "strange new powers" activated and such, that I expanded upon in other posts, so I'll shut up for now.  : P

Eh, I guess. Teleporting a monkey into the DSSW world is pretty farfetched.

SW is a passion-less pile of crap. Honestly if it never gets brought up again I wouldn't be sad.

DST has its issues(god knows how many of thme), but there's some passion left. And I have to say, I have more faith in a developer that spent this long on a game before release and keeps supporting in it, than one who rushes it after 4 months to a buggy unoptimized content lacking release.

Which is SO MACABRE!  And therefore fits the game perfectly. ;) Seriously, though, little kids being eaten...and then still ali...eeuggh!

I still have hopes that Shipwrecked can be fixed up and polished nicely by Klei themselves...later on, once they have the time.  As for Wilbur...I dunno, maybe he wasn't originally a monkey in our world and some weird magical accident happened?  Wouldn't be the first or last time, in this game.

Well... as stated above, Wendy and Webber are kids, Wilson about 30 and Willow about 20.

~Wickerbottom is an old lady, duh. Maxwell is probably about the same age as wickerbottom, maybe a bit younger, I mean look at the man.

Woodlegs looks like an old Scottish stereotype pirate

Walani is probably a bit younger than WIllow

Warly... looks middle aged to me.

Wolfgang looks late 30s or so

Woodie's probably middle aged

Wes looks about 20 to me

Wilbur and WX78 could be any age, really.

True be told, I think we know more (official cannon-wise) about Maxwell than we know about Wilson. I mean, Wilson lived in an isolated house and is a scientist, but is there anything else that is officially known about him? I mean, I think that Willow is definitely his niece, but I don't know about any lore confirming it. Heck, do we even know what nationality Wilson is?

Well for Wilbur we know that he could just be born into the world cause most mobs have  there leaders hounds and the Varg spiders and the queen pigman and the pig king it would make since because that Wilbur just became the alpha male for his increased intelligence  and just as a side note I have a theory that the order you unlock Characters is reversed on how they arrived excluding Shipwrecked and maxwell this theory also explains why you can be maxwell and how don't starve together is all possible in the world if you like me to explain more just ask its pretty long

I hadn't thought of the character order being reversed as to when each one arrived. That's an interesting idea.

And not that I doubt you, but do you have any sources you can site for that? I always kind of assumed Wilson was English, but I hadn't seen anything official saying him to be.

1. Willow being Wilson's ANYthing is not confirmed anywhere, just a (for some reason) popular fan theory.  I've always assumed they look sorta alike because art style.

2.  Klei has actually said that the wooden shack Wilson is living in in the "Forbidden Knowledge" video is in New England and that he's there because "he doesn't get along with his family".  So, he was at least living in America for a while when the series starts if not _from_ there originally (I think he is; he doesn't talk Britishly at all) and what "doesn't get along with his family" specifically means, people have their own theories.  I personally say he ran off away from the family fortune--and the family _rules_--because he wanted to be a scientist and not do whatever Daddy did for a living, but others say he ran off from his wife and kids.  Whichever, he's from NEW England.

3.  It's hinted a bit in the William Carter puzzle that MAXWELL and his brother might have originally been English.  Although Wendy (and Abigail) would've been raised in America, so no British accents there.

4.  Webber, however, definitely speaks _some_ kind of non-American English dialect, 'cos look at the slang he uses!  I especially point you to "stale like Mum's leftovers".  My personal guess is some kind of British accent, because not only "Mum" and a few other examples, but he also specifically quotes/references songs from British bands sometimes.  Or he could be another "LOOK HOW DIFFERENT HE TALKS!" deal like Woodie--a Canadian where they play up the non-American phrases some Canadians use sometimes up to 11.  But I personally say English.

5.  Since it looks like they're on the poster of the circus Maxwell was in, I have always assumed Wolfgang and Wes were among the first characters teleported by Maxwell to the Don't Starve world.  Wes is French, Wolfgang is...Russian (the way he talks in general sounds like a stereotype Russian accent)...German (the name Wolfgang)...French (frog legs:  "Is delicacy in my country!")...Italian...he's European, let's just go with that. : P

Because they probably come from further back in time than the others (it's "around 1920" in the real world when Wilson gets there, but Maxwell and Charlie's Last Performance was in 1906) and were already adult performers, Wolfgang and Wes are perhaps a bit older than some of the others.  I mean, you can't really tell much under that makeup.

6.  No time-jumping/warping for any characters other than Maxwell and possibly Charlie has been confirmed anywhere, so as far as I'm concerned, if Wendy and Abigail are "the twins" mentioned in the letter Jack Carter wrote to his brother William (Maxwell) back in 1904, then Wendy is a teenager by the time of Don't Starve.  (And so is Abigail, if she died closeish to 1920.  My personal theory is that she was taken out by the "Spanish Flu" epidemic post WWI--and that WOULD fit the timeline.)
