Walkthrough To Kill the Dragonfly (solo)

Recommended Posts

There are some notable strategies in the comments provided (and probably better) but here's my stance:

Have no friends to rush Dragonfly?

Not manning a Wigfrid or a Wolfgang at the moment?

Don't have a cane to kite Dragonfly that soon?

Anxious to the fact Dragonfly is overwhelmingly overpowered for one person to take on?

Want to plunder the Dragonfly before the first winter even starts?!

Well there's a solution! Here, in this soon to be patched exploit strategy against Dragonfly, you can stand up against Dragonfly with a bolstered attitude! Following these steps and necessities for feats of epic proportions, you can achieve greatness in at least 16 days or less! (Assembly required)

(Note: Wendy or any damage-provoking characters may have different results. Wendy could be used, but be sure to use more armor and a pan-flute/more restoratives to heal up.)

Materials/Gear:

  • 10 Trailmix (10 Birchnuts, 20 berries, 10 twigs) Wigfridge: 6 honeyed ham
  • A freshly made hambat
  • ~2 stacks of stone walls (~30 rocks)
  • A firepit
  • 3 Log Suits
  • 3 Football Helms
  • 12 pig skin, 12 boards, 9 cut stones for 3 pig houses (Hammer 6 pig houses and to leave the pigs for death)
  • A birchnut
  • A sense of dignity

Construction and Stratedgy:

Follow this link!: http://imgur.com/a/1fgoi

Exploit Strategy (written):

  • After the constructing is all said-n-done, go closer to the Dragonfly in her chamber of glory.
  • Lure her back in the box (Note that you will be damaged on the way back as she is faster than you), then lure her near to the pigs for their damage, also allowing space between the opening and her.
  • Before landing a blow, repair the stone wall opening!
  • Fight the Dragonfly, but just a fair reminder you might want to force attack her via the mouse before you go smash a wall nearby.
  • After she does a good amount of swings until you're below half-health, take some time to eat those trailmix!
  • Fight Dragonfly until her health goes below ~22000/27500, then she flees but gets stuck from the pigs.
  • GG! You can smash her about until she dies, and plunder her loot!

((((If she pierces through the pigs and goes right into the magma pools, you dun goofed)))))

Tips:

  • Using marble armor isn't a bad idea, so if you find a marble-rich set-piece, use it to your advantage!
  • Brought friends for once? Let the rest stay in the pen while one lures the dragon.
  • Utilizing rabbits may substitute pigs.
  • Never construct too close to the lava pools.
  • Remember, the pigs can be reused again for future guidance!
  • Pig houses are usually found near pig king, or an evergreen forest.
  • Pig houses nearby? Tame them, or lead them with light at dusk, to the desert if possible.

It may take an attempt or two to get the hang of it, as this really cheesy exploit strategy is prone to flaws if not careful enough. Try hosting your own game to practice, if you could.

Oh, and I am open to any suggestions and revisions! and flaming fights because both the exploit and humor is crap

Happy Dragon hunting~

we might patch out a strategy that we felt was extremely exploitative or required very little work for very high reward, but Don't Starve would be a very boring game if we patched out every creative and subversive solution

I still haven't figured out why you guys still left the easy crabbit killing method in SW....

Oh, uh, well, awkward.

The ol' strategy was going to be found out sooner or later, might as well hand it out. And if it's going to be patched, well like the countless other deaths in Dark Souls...

I would really appreciate it if someone were to post it for me. mostly because I'm too lazy and arrogant to find out

On the contrary, I made a gif

Yeah here is a much easier way.  Ignore the flingo, was doing that to farm rocks.  Also the shell armor is unnecessary but saves on healing food.

Interesting, tanking the way with Maxwell? This puts my post to shame :(

The shells are pretty simplistic, would compensate for most armor and restorative healing. Perhaps this tactic exclusive to that of Maxwell/Webber, but who am I to say? Now, if only there was a way to farm snurtles quickly without being smashed by many slurtles at a time.

The fastest time with my own strategy took 7 days, but I'll continue improvising.

Maxwell had nothing to do with it.  I was just playing him last night and its the only available clip i have from my stream.  You can do this with any character.  Getting shells is easy btw.  Just go to mud biome and run around smacking mounds with your lantern until snurtles pop out..  Dont even bother with slurtles they go back in by the time you can make your round to all the mounds.  Takes like a day or 2 in game.

Yeah you guys are all still overcomplicating this

Yeah ours are at least legit strats and not exploits.  Yay you found something that should be patched like the fire/icestaff permafreeze exploit.  As I said with my post, the armor isn't necessary.  THe whole point of the video is the wall.  All you need is the wall, no pan flute, no special gimmics or exploits.  Everything else, as said, can be ignored.

A legit strat involves fighting it AS INTENDED. You are effectively cutting out just as much of the fight as I am. My video is simply to show the absolute simplest way you can do with as little prep as possible.

HARDLY.  We still have to fight the fly.  Removing the larvae is the complication of soloing the dragonfly.  With your exploit not only do you not have to deal with the larvae you dont even have to deal with the fly.  Just hold down f and wait.  Figuring out clever ways to deal with complications of the fight is COMPLETELY different than finding some bug and exploiting it.

You are doing the EXACT same thing just with an added right click every few seconds. What, do you want everyone to laud praise upon you or something? Is that why you're getting so hostile here? Do you think I'm trying to steal your thunder? Get over yourself.

don't project yourself on me.  Im simply stating there is more to working around a problem rather than exploiting a bug.  Perhaps it is you who needs to get over oneself.

I don't need to project anything, look what you wrote and HOW you wrote it. You clearly are the one upset.

Why you can't just accept it as another way to do it is beyond me.

yeah im the one upset.  you keep attacking me every response.  CLEARLY im the one upset.  As to why its not "another way" cause its an exploit.  Its a bug dude.  It will get patched out one day cause it was not their intention that the Dragonfly bug out and do nothing the whole fight.  Just like the icestaff/fire permafreeze got patched out.  They never intended you to permanently freeze the dragonfly or anything for that matter.  But yeah dude keep projecting on me.  Im SOOOOOOO upset.  OOOOH im so mad.  LOL

You're caught red-handed mate, try to pass it off all you want, but your hubris got the better of you.

And just like my method could be patched out someday, yours can too. As soon as they give the larvae pathfinding like the hounds, the ability to damage walls and/or allow them to walk over lava pits, guess what happens with your strat? Poof.

Thats fine.... I soloed the Dragonfly in so many ways doesn't matter really.  Also the larvae do have some pathfinding, if the wall isn't big enough or you're standing in the wrong spot they go around it.

As for me passing it off, LOL!  sure buddy.  Im done responding here cause clearly you just want the last word so you can have it.  I gotta better things to do.
