I had 8 tallbird eggs, and summer was coming. so I thought, lets hatch some eggs! I had 62 seeds (whichj I thought was enough at the time)

Time went on, and everything went okay, until I decided to explore a little. I thought all my eggs were safe but I forgot to move one. It ended up killing it. I Put the Cooked Morsel on the ground and let it rot so I could flame the fire. It would be evil to eat it.

My eggs hatched the day afterwards! The names are from the left to right: James, Billy, Timmy, Claudia, Sam, Amanda and Barney.

The next day I decided to go on an adventure for seeds once again, going to my farm area. Only one Smallbird went with me, I was scared the other 6 were kiled. after I rushed back to the base I saw them all. I relieved, but they didn't want to follow me. Those small creatures had forgotten me...

After that I only had 2 options, let them starve or kill them, I didn't have enough seeds for 7. So I had to do the worst thing ever, put them to sleep and kill them. It hurted alot, but I still had one. So not all hope was lost.

That evening I made place with 5 morsels and one pan flute, You may ask ''where's the fifth morsel?'' I didn't manage to find the sixth one. That poor little thing might be dying of starvation.

Before the Smallbirds were hatched I killed a bunch of frogs that I left in the swamp on the first spring. So I had a ton of Frog legs. I decided to go to my base... But the worst thing ever happened. A part of it was burned down... I was furious for going there so I decided to stop playing. And that folks, is how I tried to raise 8 Smallbirds.

(Might continue playing tomorrow but I'm kinda salty about my base)

I think i tried to raise a Smallbird once.

But that was when caves where still in early Beta and i really wanted to explore them so i went into the caves while my trusty Teenbird followed me.

When I came back out the stupid thing forgot who his Father was and refused to follow me back to base. No idea what happend with him afterwards but when i returned for another round of spelunking he was long gone but no Rot or anything so no idea what happend. Probably wanderd off and got killed by a Beefalo in heat or something.

Nowadays I just use the eggs as food the hassle of raising smallbirds is not really worth the payout IMHO. Also it's pretty hard to resist having 2 Chests filled with Tallbird eggs. You know for bad times.

Ehh, I don't have anything better to do in the Summer so I try to raise em for fun.

Smallbirds and salt

I don't recommend raising too many at a time. Raising a bunch of them at once only provides panic and stress, wheras raising one, not so much. Not only that, but it makes you less scared of death when you have multiple. Being that tallbirds are endangered and their species needs saving, it's best to do it at a slow pace than to rush it all at the same time.

I think it is worth it. Birds and rabbits aren't afraid of teenbirds which means you can farm massive amounts of them when you have one. Last time I raised one I always told it to attack birds when they landed and even though I only used meatballs made from the morsels for food for me and the bird I still had a whole stack of morsels (and feathers) when it got killed by the dragonfly (honestly giants are the main reason why I still haven't managed to fully raise a tallbird).

Also I think weirdobob came at night and burned your base down with a torch because you killed the smallbirds.

I tried to raise small birds repeatedly 10 at a time

The first batch I incubated for 2 and a half years (because I had it on long day) they all hatched but within a few seconds hounds had come and killed them and that's what happened every single time ;-(

Raising Smallbirds is pretty tough. I believe you need to do it in Winter (to avoid red hounds), have a small camp near a Pig/Bunnymen village outside your base and literally sit there for 28 days until that thing grows up. Meanwhile keeping it locked up behind Stone fences with a stack of berries followed by a stack of jerky. All that because of Hound waves and the little Smallbird glitching through walls when you move away from it. I'm pretty sure it's the only mob that does this (I know the Koalefant did in the past but it got patched).

If you could just lock it in at all times with a stack of berries it would be infinitely easier.

Yeah I represent all tallbirds and "sorry" you got too close to their species. They like peace and quiet, you know.

I think you represent a few other bird species too...
