Least favorite character.

Recommended Posts

Maxwell.

Unpopular opinion, but I just don't like his perks. I'm more of a 'take a load of damage, heal a load of hp' kinda guy, and that playstyle only really works with Wolfgang or WX-78.

I'll also put WX-78 up here as, apart from being the most overrated character in the game, he has literally no personality and I physically could not bring my world past 100 days because of how bored he was making me.

Favorite to least:

1. Wolfgang - love his strength, so fun to go mighty and destroy everything

2. WX-78 - He's a tank in all but appearance

3. Wickerbottom - "wait you can sleep in this game?" - me the first 100 hours. strong perks weak downsides

4. Wilson - How can you not love this guy?! Love him as the main character

5. Warly(pre-nerf) - A little bit easier than the rest of the cast for me to keep all his stats up

6. Wes - I appreciate his existence. Though i don't play him usually because no perks isn't very fun.

7. Wendy - unique playstyle, not a huge fan though because she forces her dead sister to do all the heavy lifting

8. Woody - Dont usually play him because if i really wanted to I could abuse him to hard and just stay in wearbeaver 24/7...

9. Webber - able to start mass murder with a single piece of meat, too abusable

10. Maxwell - too easy for the first season = able to get setup right away = not very fun

11. Wilbur. Never really played him, but sounds kinda bland.

12. Walani - meh

13. Woodlegs - only played him before the latest patch but having the chance to get full thulicite from any chest... No thanks

14. Wigfrid - similar to maxwell but even easier early game...

15. Willow - No comments will be made at this time.

In DST bump woodie up near the top and WX down a few, woodies sanity management is great and no one wants you to upgrade as WX :indecisiveness:

Sorry if I "over-answered"! :wilson_laugh:

I can love a character for two things: if he offers me a good challenge, or if he has a fun gameplay. Since perks doesn’t really influence the gameplay, these two things mostly rely on the character’s disadvantages.

Sorted by categories:

1.       “Oh dear, I love her…”

Wickerbottom, queen of my heart. The books, the picky eater, the insomnia… Perfect character.

2.       “I find them really fun.”

WX-78, because I love robots, and the “start weak until upgrade thing” is nice.

Wes. THE challenge. Especially in “No light mode”.

3.        “I play them when I want to relax.”

Wigfrid, food limitation is funny, but I mostly play her to feel like the psychopath who finds relief in murder.

Walani. Surfboating waves is cool.

Maxwell, totally ignores what insanity means. But health management is interesting.

Willow, totally ignores who Charlie is. But sanity management is fun, if you don’t want to burn your own base.

4.       “They’re not that bad.”

Woodlegs. Having to deal with its mental issues on land is a nice challenge.

Warly. Making crock pot recipes is a fun part of the game. (Yes, I’m a French player enjoying a French cook character. Cliché.)

5.       “I only played with them once and was disappointed.”

Wilson, Wolfgang, Wendy, Woody, Webber, Wilbur.

I like that so many people disagree with me, the fact that the character preference order can be totally different means Klei has designed things billiantly, satisfying a broad spectrum of players.

My least favourite character from the gameplay-perspective is Wendy. Abigail is more of a chore than a boon, and the sanity rate does not make up for the damage reduction.

But if you mean personality, jokes, references and motivations, I utterly hate Willow. There's nothing but fire and butts on her mind.

wait where are the butts

For me it's gotta be Wendy, never found abigail to be very useful and she's too squishy for me.

(Well, to each his own I guess...)

My least favorite would be... the least one I use... which would be Wolfgang...

She is so cute. One man band transformation is cool, but ends so quickly :C
I came to ready camp, but helped with some stuff, like building shadow manipulator, wardrobe and some effigies. And found this cutie!

Wait, the one man band transformation is temporary?

I agree so much about WX.

Maxwell's not that much easier though. The low max HP is a pain.

I kinda agree about Wickerbottom haha. I slept so rarely in about 200 hours of gameplay.

Whaaaaaa?

I can't get enough WX, he is the most interesting character personality wise imo. Every character has their "thing", be it Willow's fire, Wendy's depression, or WX's kill-everything-ness.

The only character I jumped ship at 100 days on is Wes, because he has no personality whatsoever. The pantomiming motions are randomized too, so you can't even tell if he is scared of something, disapproves, or likes it.

Most favorite to least favorite.

Wolfgang>Wes>Wickerbottom>Webber>Wilbur>WX>Wigfrid>Maxwell>Woodie>Wendy>Wilson>Woodlegs>Warly>Willow>Walani

  1. willow and walani got no perk and willow's disadvantages are annoying.
  2. warly the chef literally no use and his portable crockpot is not something like a perk cuz food is everywhere and no character starves to death cuz he has no crockpot in an island also u gotta bring ur crockpot with u which really sucks only advantage of him is his pouch.
  3. woodlegs is a bit advantageous for sw but he will not have any advantage for rog cuz he has to be always on land which means constant sanity loss.. He is a sw specific char.
  4. wilson got no obvious perk at all he is a buffed wes imo.
  5. for wendy i dont like a ghost following ur char idea and also the ghost is mostly useless and she dies in awkward spots so u gotta pick up ur flower.. More pain in dst cuz a griefer can pick up ur flower.. A character with an embedded perk is always more preferable.
  6. woodie yes he can be a fun character to play with but not really good perks that i see other than providing tons of wood. for DS single play in late game u can get those woods with old bell trick so he is not too useful char.
  7. maxwell u dont have to worry about sanity loss codex umbra is not too useful as puppets dont kite which sucks.
  8. wigfrid got really nice perks maybe one of the op char but i dont like to use when there is wolfgang she is weak compared to him.
  9. wx fully upgraded can be quite a big tank in late game also u can charge urself so pretty useful character.
  10. wilbur has not much nice perks other than speed boost. I just like his look.
  11. webber king of the monster meat, spider gland and silk. Real mafia of the game.
  12. wickerbottom's books are really good ur godlike especially if u have reed field in ur world.
  13. wes is the weakest but i like him for some reason :D.
  14. wolfgang if u know how to get food wolfgang is the easiest character to use. less time and resources to kill anything on ur way.

If you know game mechanics you can easily tell what he is trying to say. I actually love wes but one thing I dont like about him is he got not too much animation. I wish he had like 20 different and all random.

What do you mean if I know game mechanics? You can inspect the same item twice and get different animations. Thus, you can't make an educated guess of how he feels.

he got no comment so u cannot know what he is saying. But lets say if he does an animation all of a sudden u can tell if he does that cuz he is hungry, he is in danger of hound attack, overheating, freezing etc. Just animations are not too many. i wish he had more.

That's not what I mean. Yes, you can tell stuff like that if you are paying attention, but he has no personality, which makes him boring to play.

Wes is a mime.

.......

Need I say more?

Mimes are people too. Are you discriminating against mimes? That's not okay dude.y dude.

I'm not complaining that he doesn't talk, I'm complaining that his thoughts on a terrifying 2 story tall deer monster amount to like 4 random animations like riding a bicycle. He doesn't mime a warrior going into battle, or someone that is being threatened or is scared. I would much rather there be something that can be gleaned from the miming so he isn't so flat.

That would be awesome, actually.

But sadly, Wes "can't do that"...

I think it's the voice. And the fact that he isn't human, so I didn't see the point in keeping him alive if you see what I mean.
