Trade up/Trade in

Recommended Posts

Hey @MrDeepDarkmind short answer, yes. Trading in 9 items of the same quality will generate the next tier. 9 Common for 1 Classy, 9 Classy for 1 Spiffy, 9 Spiffy for 1 Distinguished. Elegants cannot be gained through the Trade-Inn by trading in 9 Distinguished. Although Peter mentions in the devstream below that it is possible to get an Elegant by trading in lower quality items. For more detailed information on the Trade-Inn, you can watch the Klei's Rhymes With Play Devstream when they discussed the Trade-Inn System.

Rhymes with Play EP. 74 - Don't Starve Together:

  • Start - jump to 22:15
  • Commons to Elegant - jump to 33:50

Mentioning @PeterA, in case I got anything wrong with the trade-inn recipes that are currently available for the trade-inn. (I hope I didn't get any of the information wrong.)

Cheers.

Always had a question if I turn in items from the same colletion will I get a higher tier item from that collection or no?

You get an item from AT LEAST one tier up. But even 9 commons have a (small) chance to generate an elegant. Trust me, @PeterA traded in a LOT of pink shirts to prove that works. :) I think he got a Willow head.

Ohh, I just reread your question. No, you will not always get an item from the same collection if you trade in all from the same collection, though that's definitely something we've considered adding! Right now there's just the generic "9:1 for at least one tier up" recipe, but we've got other recipes planned with other properties.

Does the chance for an elegant increase if you trade in rarer skins? So like a common trade would have 0.001% chance, and a distinguished trade would have 0.01% chance? Or is it all the same chance?

Yeaa, you guys should add that for sure because at the moment there's no way to get commons from the trade inn. Like if somebody wanted to snag a pair of those new, ultra stylish green gloves, then the trade inn is useless to them. I'm not sure how you'd implement that though. Would a 2:1 trade be fair? Maybe you could just have it as an option for the common skins. Or maybe you could do 1:1 but make it limited to 1 a week or something.

Something to note - player to player trading is awesome (when it's not a scam). I don't think we ever want trade-inn or marketability to be a better deal than player to player trades, that would kill something that encourages players for form connections and (hopefully) play DST together or at least talk about DST with one another.

Together, it is our hope that together the community will group together to be together in Don't Starve Together together, forming bonds of togetherly togetherness together. Together.

I'll grant that it's repetitive if you expand it out, but I stand by its grammatical correctness. Don't Starve Together is a proper noun, and we want more people to play it together. :)

HWODY mr. Nome!

Maybe you didn't noticed but trading is gone already. You can see in this thread. For basically free Spiffy item i got 6 offers and 4 of those were from my friends list. Before market/Inn i would get probably 60 offers for trade like this.

I did tons of trading before market/Inn and as you said i met lot of cool people and also played with most of them DST. This seems to be gone. You can also see on Steam trading forums what is going on. I don't have any idea how to fix this yet (if it is fixable) so i can't provide any solution ideas now but you should know that trading is almost gone :/

@t0panka nothing you can do about it. Trading isn't completely gone, and never will. Sure, it's less popular than before, at least as far as unfair trades go. Market has filled its role, anyone can buy a spiffy backpack for a few cents or an elegant for a little over one dollar, so almost everyone is happy. I mean what's one buck, right?

I saw your trade thread and just assumed that somebody beat me to it so I didn't even bother trying. Maybe that's why you didn't get many offers. When you give stuff away, that stuff tends to go quickly.

I saw that as well, but I didn't make an offer mostly because it just seemed too good to be true, and we all know the rule about things like that.

See, I knew you were up to something!  I saw that trade thread like the others, but I thought you were just fishing to find who all the greedy opportunists were. A trap!  But I'm too clever for your schemes -- yours and everyone else's!  And then I sent an offer anyway, because how could I pass up an opportunity like that?
