Scrap the Crap Volcano Eruptions - Everybody Thinks it SUCKS!

Recommended Posts

they should just reduce it to 1 volley 1 time per volcano season not a constant threat or at least change the frequency to be based off of days survived so the total number of volcano seasons you survived will be taken into account. kinda like the hound code how their numbers increase over time

Okay, now i think you can edit the title of your topic, cause what you're doing is lying, and pretty badly. Because i don't think you're able to know what everybody thinks and that there's a 100% agreeing on this topic.

Also, the eruptions themselves are pretty cool and fun, while adding challenge. The only downside being the timing.

it's a brutal game, this is stage THREE difficulty you're dealing with, I feel like each volcano season you need to placate the volcano, I'd use graveyard junk objects also, find the RIGHT object to throw in, and the volcano could blast out something else

There needs to be an end game item though to alleviate it.

As it stands, along with the flooding, it makes the idea of exploring kind of mute.  You are too focused on making sure your base doesnt get flooded or destroyed from meteors, that essentially two season are just "frantic mode."

I kind of consider meteors in the same category as lightning, yet lightning won't even kill you, and you can build a rod to prevent it.

Running around for a whole season isn't fun, regardless if you think it is too easy or too hard.  There needs to something the player can work towards to lessen the tedium of the season.

Maybe lower the amount of showers, lower overheating a bit and make a way to protect yourself from fire rocks. I saw someone make a post about making some sort of sacrificial altar to protect your base from rocks. I forgot his name it seemed like a great idea

Hate it when one person thinks that everybody agrees with Him/Her.

Yeah I didn't like it at first but I find the Showers useful. Burning Monkey huts or Having a crowd of monkeys following me and then watching rocks land on them is just too funny. They destroy rocks and Dig up Magma piles for me. I vote showers stay. There isn't anything wrong with them.

Besides some folks around here having been digging into the files and found out there's a way to curb the showers.

At first I also thought that the eruptions were not fun, but then i discovered that the eruptions i had were caused by the volcanic rod which started the volcanic season while still being in the hurricane season. Both at the same time is something that noone wants for sure.

But normal volcano eruptions during summer are easy-peasy:

- prepare enough food to survive the next 2 weeks without needing to manage your base. Meals in the fridge can easily be kept for more than 10 days. During the season you just need to go back quickly between 2 eruptions to feed yourself.

- Prepare an ice cube or a chilled amulet. Ice cube is more expensive than the amulet and wets you which can make you insane. However it lasts much longer. You can also build some endothermal firepits which are cheaper but they might be destroyed by the eruptions.

- Get a lantern on you for the nights

- Get an armor for possible hounds

- find an empty area near your base, on the same island if it is big enough or in the next island but you need to park the boat quite far from the area to not risk destroying the boat.

- When you find an appropriate place, stay still while the eruption is on and move only if a rock falls too close to you. Most of the rocks will fall all around but not directly on you. It might seem more dangerous than staying at sea but on lands you don't have much risk of getting insane quickly because of wetness and you don't risk sinking due to big waves and seahounds attacks.

- When the shower stops, go quickly to base to refill your stomac and repair your armor/weapon, and at the first sign of the next eruption, go to the area and repeat until the end of the season.

Volcano eruptions on its own is fine, stock up resource for boat repair kit and you can stay at sea. Overheating can be deal with using a hat + summer frest + chilled amulet.

It is the sea hounds x 12 + volcanic meteor shower together that gets me every time.

Last time I die to the sea hounds I was hoping to put them to sleep with a pan flute. Since that didnt work I am thinking there is just no way you can deal with 12 sea hounds while sailing on a boat.

*snip*

Sounds easy enough... but is that really fun or even engaging? A whole season of stand still -> run to base -> run back -> stand still -> run to base etc. The 'having to actually really prepare'-bit is pretty sweet, but the rest...

Although I agree that scrapping the whole thing would be silly, I think some small change needs to be made. Either toning down the frequency just a little bit, or any of the already suggested items. Or changing the fire to a shockwave that destroys and/or uproots nearby resources/buildings, so that entire islands don't burn down to a desert.

Oh, and that instakill is a bit bs at night (or always, if you happen to be a person with just slightly slower reflexes. Or get a lag spike.)

Of course when the caves get implemented and if they're accessible during summer... Well that just pretty much auto-fixes the whole season :p

I spend my whole dry season farming golden tools/ trident/ trinkets using trawl Net. Make 60 ropes before the season begin and use up every single one of them before the season ended. It is not as boring for me.

Other than that, there isn't much else to do.

I think it's alright, spend the eruptions in the volcanic biome, have the meteors mine all the rocks, wear a floral shirt and a hat, spend the days in the jungle chopping trees and it's pretty smooth sailing for the most part.

I did however only make it through most of dry season once and towards the end it felt like the time between the shadow appearing/whistling sound and the meteors' impact became gradually shorter. Coupled with the increased frequency of showers I got hit by meteors twice in a row(with a resurrection in between). That's why I think the warning period could probably stand to be longer by a second or two.

I'm also quite in favor of some volcano-appeasing mechanic. Maybe you could load up your cannon with ice and shoot into the volcano. In that case there should also be some craftable seismic measurer-thingamajig that helps you find the volcano on your map and you could work on appeasing it all year. If you could haggle it down to about three eruptions throughout the entire season that would be great. Being able to negate them completely would ruin the mood.

It might need some tuning of course, we need some craftable items dedicated to the survival during the eruptions such as sacrifices/roof or anything which could reduce the amount of falling rocks. Possibilities are huge. The frequency should maybe be a little lower so we can do something else but other than this eruptions are not impossible to get through.

The biggest problem left is the frequency and number of hounds which gets crazy in the late game but it's a general issue and not just the season.

a row boat, or armored boat with a cloth sail is enough; at least I survived those situation with only that. A sleek hat cold be an extra speed bonus. Ultimately, you can put your items that may sink in the backpack and use a life jacket and a pre-crafted boat. Cargo boat is too slow.

Thank you for the tip. Will try it out next run.

I would really like to keep my cargo boat and not have to use a life jacket thou. Other boats don't have the inventory space for running a trawl net.

If there is no way to defeat the sea hounds at sea then I guess I would just have to keep a armored boat ready by the shore for that kind of situation.

Harpoon is life, harpoon is...well,you know it :p

Harpoon is life, harpoon is...well,you know it

I would like to agree, but once you throw the harpoon; it could be really hard to pick up and throw it again. You may also need two harpoons, for 12-16 sea hound wave. If you want to defeat 12-16 sea hound wave, then a better option would be to tank them, with a trident and an armored boat, as soon as they spawn.
