Scrap the Crap Volcano Eruptions - Everybody Thinks it SUCKS!

Recommended Posts

The dry season needs some changes, its to easy to survive on the sea, its not good to stay in the base or other island as it will destroy everything on the island.

There is a problem with smoke and volcanic rocks falling from the sky, in heavy smoke I'm not able to see the shadows of falling rocks.

Needs changes to be more fun and rewarding in some way.

Sure if you have 12 Harpoon in your inventory you can use jet to slow the time and kill them all.

Oh no wait, this isn't Fallout:C

I know already that cargo boat can't tank 12 sea hounds. All it takes is one bite and you are in constant stun lock, the boat will then sank in 3 second. There is no escape from that.

May be the armored boat could do better?

I just played Shipwrecked for the first time. It was fun and challenging, I really liked the new seasons.. except dry season. Surviving heat is fine, and getting away from a few falling rocks is no big deal, but the way I died was on day 75, after 3 days of constant rocks falling on me (seriously, is it supposed to be like that? I had no breaks, the ashes did disappear from time to time, but the rocks just kept on going. The last two days they had 2 seconds intervals on them as well).

I didn't think of going out in a boat (from what I read, you're invincible there?), so I was standing on the edge of my main island letting the rocks fall in water and killing off some parrots so I could get their meat. Near dusk of day 75 I was moving up to get some meat from a parrot and a rock apparently hit me. I didn't even see a shadow.

I was so looking forward to exploring during the Mild Season, but now I need some time to calm down. Maybe I'll play some more in a week or so.

I'm mostly just here to put in my +1 to everyone else saying that the volcano season really isn't that bad, but I actually want to add that I (and only I, it seems) actually think the volcano season is really cool. It's fun, exciting, and adds a new depth of strategy to the game in my opinion. I like it a lot. A true test of your survival and preparing skills at the end of the in-game year, like a fourth of July sort of thing where it's all or nothing. People can go ahead and say that "it's boring, so easy, so tedious" but there has to be some intensity behind hellfire raining from the sky, threatening to destroy everything you know and love and also just straight up end you if you get too cocky or don't pay attention. Klei and Capy get a "good job guys" from me. No real complaints here. Thanks for making an awesome expansion so far guys and keep up the good work!

The deal is like this.

If meteor hits land, it does a shockwave that destroys everything close (including stuff in water, if the land is right next to it), it also burns stuff close, and if hits you, it will hit you most likely three times, which deals 3 times 1000 damage = 3000 damage total.

So if you are on a boat right next to land, you are asking to be shipwrecked.

If meteor hits water, then there's no shockwave, just big waves emerging out the hit point. Which is why people are immune to meteors falling on their heads, no shockwave to hurt them, and the waves appear either right next to you, or appear right where you are (and you have some seconds to get out, like when fighting a whale).

The idea of the volcano eruption is good.  It's very tedious, not fun, but for most of the season is avoidable.  It's the days of continuous rocks at the end of the season that needs to go, period.    Throwing things in the volcano to appease is not enough, because you can easily not find the volcano by the first season.

RoG combustion was a better mechanic.  The player could prepare for it, and mitigate it, with a number of strategies including having a summer base, having a flingomatic, spacing out flammable strucutres, carrying rot/ice staff, and so forth.  It was not a frantic situation.  It rewarded good planning on the player's part.

Volcanos suck because there's no way to prepare for or mitigate them currently.   You just run/sail.   Flingomatic won't save you, no amount of base design will save you, no armor will save you.   That's not fun.  That's not an engaging mechanic that rewards good plannning.  That's just tedium.  And yet it would still be bearable, if it weren't for the continuous days.  That's the part that needs to be gotten rid of.  If it weren't for the continuous days, you could still do things.  You don't need to be on the water constantly the whole season.  You just need to pay attention to the warning rumbles, hop on your boat, and get a few screens away for the duration of the eruption.  Come back to base afterward, continue business.  That's doable, although the one-hit kill if you lag for just a second is pretty harsh.

So they changed it and now its trivial.

Trivial? Did you play it before? Have you played it since? Hang out on your boat and you survive the season, easy as that. Now you actually need to avoid the meteors.
