Though they were opposites the sisters cared for each other deeply and promised to protect each other. One represented loyalty and warmth, the other represented wisdom and passion. One day a mortal sorcerer approached the sisters and demonstrated his manipulation of the shadows and producing an energy source known as nightmare fuel. Soleil dismissed the sorcerer finding the nightmare fuel to be dangerous. Lune on the other hand became curious and visited the sorcerer to learn more. As time went on, Lune found herself falling in love with the sorcerer and the sorcerer reciprocated her feelings. However, their love was not meant as one of the sorcerer’s experiments with nightmare fuel went awry. The shadows infected Lune, cursing her and creating a new personality called Eclipse that snuffed away the light of the moon and left the people in danger of the shadows. Eclipse went after Soleil, intent on destroying the lady of the sun. With the help of other sorcerers of the kingdom, Soleil was able to weaken Eclipse, but not destroy her or Lune and in turn created the phases of the moon. Angered by the harm brought to her sister, Soleil exiled the sorcerer to the harsh lands outside of the kingdom. His name only spoken through whispers as time went on.
