Crapplejacks
You know, I've been thinking, when life gives you lemons many people, really do not know about Don't Starve. At my High school, I know the only people who know about this fabulous game is me and my few friends. I feel we must act on this immediately, so sound the alarm, we must bring awareness to this fantastic game! Perhaps we can keep recommending it to people, for a game of this amazing magnitude should be one to spread to people! Who is with me! Moonkis
I have a lengthy theory about this, but to sum it up.The game looks very...unique at a first glans. It's unfamiliar! The game had a lot of buzz somewhere mid Beta, but since the game couldn't decide what it wanted to be it left a lot of people unsatisfied, confused, bored. The game was quite boring in the early stages since once you had a base you were pretty much set. This lived on throughout the entire lifespan. Once you get a base, there is low survival game play left. This is just a fraction of my lengthy theory of why it turned out the way it did. greenglacier
I think not too many people know Don't Starve and if they know, just thinking it is a boring, low survival game etc, what you guys listed. They are wrong and if you trying to recommend them, trying in vain =S Who like the game, who are more intelligent than most FPS gamers, will be here,on the forums. At least I see it that way =| Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29931-dont-starve-awareness/#findComment-376457 Share on other sites

MilleniumCount
It was always easy. All tries to change the difficulty to harder one cause big rage on forums.I wouldn't subscribe that. Although I have to say it could have been some levels harder without being unfair but as you said the majority on the forums actually was complaining about everything which made the game harder....Krampus, Deerclops and then everything got nerfed into nothing......Yes, and it is not a so called ''Mainstream'' game. Moonkis
It was always easy. All tries to change the difficulty to harder one cause big rage on forums. It was always easy, however it wasn't always meant to be easy. The game became less "how long can you survive" and more...a collection of different things to do...I guess. The game became less "how long can you survive" and more...a collection of different things to do...I guess. That is caused by its sandbox nature, if there would be some kind of ending it would be better. There is no proggresion for me, you have the same problems at day 1 and at day 100, you can only get more food, or other materials, I just end my gameplay after first winter cause I know that everything after that will be the same. When the nerfed or introduced something that nullified the entire mechanic people complained it was to easy. In our defense, it was meant to be a Roguelike(-like, I know Kevin!) uncompromising survival game in mysterious and dangerous wilderness. It changed because at the end of the day Klei is a company that unlike random passionate indie-developers needed to generate a revenue that fits a business model. Money first, game second. They basically needed to broaden their base because its a safer card and will most likely generate enough money. Experimenting is dangerous in a business! The Letter W
In some ways I'd rather it wasn't mainstream. Big fandoms can be pretty annoying. MilleniumCount
Well, the complainers are going to complain. It changed because at the end of the day Klei is a company that unlike random passionate indie-developers needed to generate a revenue that fits a business model. Money first, game second. They basically needed to broaden their base because its a safer card and will most likely generate enough money. Experimenting is dangerous in a business! Yeah, it is how it is. The lumberjack doesn't chop wood because he likes to do so (or perhaps he only hates trees ^^) he wants to earn his money with it. And I can understand the motivations behind the changes.Although i would have wished for more options to make the game as difficult as I want it to be....Whimsy Mode and Wolfgan Mode something like that. But the thread being about the awareness of Don't Starve it is no Sim City (god what a relief) and it simply isn't the kind of game hundred thousands of people like to play....and the missing of,I won't say the evil word with starts with an M (like Maxwell) and ends with a word which rhymes to prayer, also leads to a lesser number of players and cuts it literally from a scene which provides other games with a ton of more players.... In the end I'm enjoying it and that's most important from the view of a single person, in this case me Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29931-dont-starve-awareness/#findComment-376553 Share on other sites

the truthseeker
Assumed sandbox and rouge-like were not mainstream for the masses and one or both kept it off that radar. Whatever, the game and the communities for DS speak for themselves and do a good job of it. DeadpanQuinkan
It's just a strange case of a game. It can be very easy for someone to hear basic premise, see a bit of "spoiler free" gameplay and have it just fly over their heads. That's how it was with me for the longest time. Regardless of what it was intended to be (hardcore survival) and what it's become (survival adventure Animal Crossing), it ultimately was and always a niche game. Only those who are just curious enough to take it upon themselves to look deeper into this game to find out if it's really for them might end up getting swayed. Also I think this video clip is a bit relevant http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=6mNgryvKJlg#t=13 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29931-dont-starve-awareness/#findComment-376836 Share on other sites
