And its permanemt

never breaks unless you hit something with it

it completely negates the effects of rain so its good for early~mid when you don't have 5 stacks of silk and 3 fridges full of honey and pumpkins

Because it gives you an A+ for walking through rainy weather with STYLE!

 

Always have various hats and a dapper vest during summer time, accompanied by umbrella, fishing rods and bug nets.

 

At winter wear a different winter hat each day to avoid monotony (earpuffs, winter hat, shanter, beefalo hat, also switch between puffy & breezy vests).

 

All they need to add is 60's vehicles in game so you can RIDE with style - imagine all the cogs and electric parts you dig from graves coming to a good use!

You could have different types of auto's working with different fuels, from the classic coal engine, to electric one, solar power charged, eco - feed it fruits and vegies ahoy! and ending with the all stylish ala Cruela De Vil fueled with nightmare fuel! (Maxwell gonna love this being dapper and all)

for a beginner this item can be useful, but once you've learnt the basics of sanity management its uses are negligible

For me its just as useful as anything I lay my hand with specially on WX78 this thing is a must on early games. During late games I just had this to make me *groovy*.

While the umbrella has the potential to save you in a pinch, it is probably too random. 
And if you have good play style, chances are you won't be landing yourself in a low health situation. 

 

That said, i don't see anyone using this other than WX. 

It does work wonders in a cold reception... and is a nice way to offset the sanity drain from rain.

well when rain first came out it was pretty damaging to sanity so the umbrella was a necessity. but now since they lowered it... this is krampus allover again.

I'm obsessive about not wearing down the durability of hats (especially the Tam O' Shanter), so it becomes especially useful when it rains at night and you're at your fire pit, reorganizing chests and such without worry of extra sanity drain.

Doing WX-78 primarily ATM. it's not the health loss as much as it is the sanity loss those early game days. More often than not I am struck by lightning multiple times (as well as sometimes hit by rain just after a costly battle when low on/no healing items.)

For those going nomadic to hunt for gears, this is a vital item until gears are found. Else, it's not a big issue for sanity (unless you are using the certain quiet rescued character from adventure mode) Once you have a permanent base at the Alchemy engine level and/or consumed gears to the 150+ sanity level, just drop it nearby/in a chest and forget about it except as an anti-nuisance.

In sandbox mode set to default , it's useless (too little rain , very low sanity drop)

In Adventure mode however is somehow cool , for me it helped me a lot during Archipelago and a Cold Reception chapters 

point is :it's useless but helpful at times lol

If it's effect is less in most situation in the game it can be consider useless.

My main challenge is use the best patern to explore and survive forever in game. The best mean be simple, flexible, multitask, optimal... And thus most items in DS are useless for me.
