heh I can't wait for the beta thing today, going to be awesome. I'm on the steam version how do I exactly do the beta?

You right click on Don't Starve, Properties, Go to Betas and in the little drop down box that says "None - Opt out of all beta programs" click on it and once the beta is out you'll be able to select whatever the beta is called.

Nope.He isn't a robot, Mr.Kevin said "He is just really into his character"

Kevin was joking. People had theories that WX-78 was a man in a robot suit, and with the update he's undeniably a robot. Kevin was just pretending that they still had a ghost of a chance of being correct.

I think Kev reveals too much of thing... that the last thing he need to say is the character's name.He won't let us waiting another week. He need us to test character you know.(Unfortunately, in my timezone, this's 9.30PM and I have a school tomorrow. I need to wait more. :( )Oh, and if we really get new charcter in this testing, we need to

hide him in spoiler right? I think it's okay in testing discussion. But not everyone want spoilers I guess.

Okay now sir let me ask you a thingwhere do you think the rest of the language came fromwas it there from the beginning?Just sprung into existence fully formed comes with its own dictionary bam brand new overnight

Why you are not allowed to write "dude" in any formal letter etc.?Because although dude is now a part of most of the dictionaries, and most of the English speakers approve it. But it's a new word, and until it lasts for a while and more WRITERS start using it, it will continue being an informal word. While as for the things you showed me, they are even less used than "dude" and probably will never be a part of the real language, because they doesn't even make sense.

I think the point Orima-Kazooie was making is that languages change over time? Sorry if I've misunderstood!Words go in and out of favor, as do expressions. Using "he" to refer to a person of unknown gender might be something dating back a long time, but nowadays it's used very rarely in English, with the exception of on the internet and possibly some formal documents. And if the person knows the other's gender, well, I've never seen a woman referred to as "him" in that case. Considering Kevin knows the gender, it was either a typo or he chose to call the person a him because that is the character's gender... using "they" would have worked just fine, or "he or she" if he wanted to keep it a mystery. Anyway, sorry for contributing to the derail! I just wanted to have my say. Edited by Catastrophics

Maxwell is already pretty balance, I think, but I was thinking about giving the merms an affinity for him. So like, if find a merm village, you get some free (or cheap?) followers. In the lore, the merms are a failed creation by Maxwell. So I could imagine them looking up to him as a father figure, and him being kinda embarrassed and grossed out by them. Gotta think about that one a little more though.

Please add a maxwell effigy that lets you keep the 30 health http://forums.kleientertainment.com/showthread.php?22327-Maxwell-Effigy-that-keeps-health

Yo, as stated by the others; Maxwell probably isn't going to get anything new this update.

Using "he" to refer to someone unknown is still very widely used and will continue because lots of people feel bothered when the whole speech is "he or she" "him or her" (It annoys me too). And other people don't accept someone saying "I say to each person in this room: may they enjoy themselves tonight!" Because, for them, 'it just doesn't sound right'

Indeed, Kevin knows the gender but when he -probably- doesn't want anyone to know, which leads to the fact his "he" may refer to a girl since that's right grammatically: so there is still a chance that the character is a girl.

While for the words Orima-Kazooie sent, can someone else actually say that they have ever heard or read anything similar before he show them to us? But how many people heard the word "DUDE"?

Although both are made-up words but the difference is that one has no weight in the language, look at every dictionary you may imagine (Merriam Webster, Dictionary.com, Oxforddicationary or any other dictionary you are using) you won't find those. BUT YOU WILL FIND "DUDE" (An informal word, and with time it may become formal).

Yes, I am taking this discussion so far and personal but was it real worth it giving me a negative rep for it? Well, thank you.

I... I'm really surprised you feel that way. As someone who's lived in England all my life it sounds perfectly natural for someone to say they.

And it may be right grammatically, but it will give the wrong impression for Kevin to use it there. Surely he'd know most people will assume the character is male.

As for the words, I didn't comment on them specifically because I wouldn't use them either. I'd use they, or use the persons given name, or he or she or some other variant.

(Edit: Oh, I was going to give you a negative reputation, clicked the button even, but didn't in the end because it seemed preferable to articulate my thoughts like this. So uh, unless it counts even if I didn't give a reason then it wasn't me.)

They sounds perfectly right to me too, but some people disagree.

Some people object to the use of plural pronouns in this type of situation on the grounds that it’s ungrammatical.

Who knows? Maybe he even meant to use it so we can get all confused and think he is a male all along?

About the "EDIT" I don't really care; "haters will hate," they said, they're right. And thank you for discussing your thought instead of hating, like others. And don't worry, I actually receive the name of the people who gives me reputation so yea, I know who did it.

P.S: Someone else did it again ♥

Two things.1: I live in America and the language is really butchered. That maybe the reason why I use "he" to address people whose gender I do not know. Also, when calling to a group of friends, I say something like "Hey guys" even when there is girls in the group. I am not trying to be offensive, it just gets tedious for me to say it right when the people I am talking to don't care.2. Why think to give a negative reputation to someone who doesn't agree with you and isn't swearing at you or anything? We are all dapper here aren't we?

Very true! It's quite likely he wanted to confuse us all!

I've heard of people saying guys a lot for groups including girls, but not he.

...Now that I think about it, Kevin is from America so maybe he is using it in that way! Oops. It never occurred to me that it would be common there.

And yeah, I agree. Another reason why I didn't go ahead with it.
