People stop assuming that the new character is a male just because Kevin referred to him as a he. So, you are talking with someone and telling them about your friend but don't want to make his/her gender clear... you have two ways (him/her) which is bothersome or (them) which is rarely used, although it's grammatically very correct. So if you don't feel like using either, you can still refer to THEM as a HE without yet giving out that his gender is 100% a male. This is how English works. If you don't believe, think of it in a different way: when someone says "I am going out with my friend." You will mostly reply "Hope you enjoy your time with him." NOT HER. Of course there would be some exceptions but most of people would use him in that mysterious sentence.

...Every time anyone has ever spoken to me with a sentence like that and I have not specified gender, they have referred to them as "them".

Since I don't know the gender of the many people who post on this fourm, by default my sentence labels them as males. Someone called me out for not to long ago infact.

It doesn't rain in winter, so he can't get struck by lightning and get overloaded. Considering anti-winter is a heatwave, it probably won't rain during it either.

In the winter he should be a lot faster because machiens function ebst when it's cold as ****; in the heat wave he SHOULD take more dmamage. I approve of this idea actually. Man, heatwave would be killer on him.

Yea sure. Why not.

Because english doesn't actually work that way; that's your preference. There are at least a half-dozen ways to refer to a person whose gender is unknown/irrelevant/nonexistant etc. now, the oldest of which as has already been told you being them.

even though the new character IS a male, english does in fact work that way. It is just less common now that everyone must be politically correct. but when you don't know the sex of someone, it's technically grammatically correct to refer to them as a he. (though nowadays both are correct)

I'd say it's less a rule than it is a convenience because of how our society works. Hence it changing.

At any rate we already argued over genetics let's not move onto linguistics.Say Winnie is the new character, what do you think her perks would be like? (If anyone just responds with "but winnie isn't the next character I will rep-down you this is a hypothetical question for the sake of a good time)

Winne always struck me as a transvestite, like wes in a dress.

I hope they announce the new character soon so that everyone stops fighting over it x_x

They probably wont officially release it until the beta build goes live late Monday/early Tuesday, and then he won't technically be announced until the full update is released.

This type of fighting is fine. It's all just speculation anyway. We'll just have to wait until the next character (who is male) is released. :3

I am of the opinion that you can stick your Wolfgang changes where the sun don't shine.Look at all the other people who posted the same thing before you casually just ignore me.Wickerbottom seems cool though. I like it. The lightning book sounds great, but it needs to be able to be aimed. (similar to debug spawn'ed stuff)Like Willow. Idk about lower sanity, but I like her sanity buff from fire and fire immunity.Like WX78.More reliable Wendy is nice.Wilson is a cop-out. All of my disdain.Wes, well I guess balloons is cool? Hard to work up any feelings for him.

Nope. English isn't your second language is it?

That was my headcanon too not really sure why. I'm seeing more like transgender than just transvestite. It'd be really cool to have a canonically transgender character as long as that wasn't any big part of her character. But as far as perks, she seems like her perks should be winter-based? I Probably get that from her being pale as hell and icy blue clothing.EDIT: Maybe she can farm in the winter?

I don't know if they changed her in the files and it hasn't been updated on the wiki, but the last time I checked she was wearing a dark pink dress. She isn't more pale than any of the other human characters, from what I can tell.I remember hearing somewhere that the devs mentioned her being a vegetarian, but I've never gotten a source. Plus, I refuse to believe it because I want her to be something cooler than the 'token flowerchild'. I view her as the young daughter of an upper-class family who gets sucked into the world, has no idea what's going on, and is completely terrified of everything; she's much funnier that way.

Must be remembering the blue wrong but yeah it's the red cheeks that give the illusion of her being even paler than everyone else.

Look, we have several chars in the pipeline.

William - Maxwell's alter-ego, very different people, talking item could be his rabbit. His luck is certainly cursed...

Woodie - Everyone wants Woodie. Looks crazy, so fits the talking item.

Webber - Certainly interesting enough. Needs sound and such. Maybe being half-spider is the 'curse'

Wilton - Curses, certainly fit an undead char, and Boons are in game. Possible.

Winnie - Technically more ready than Webber, unless there is behind the scenes stuff at Klei.

Wortox - Has recently been changed, certainly fits curses, less ready than Winnie.

Wallace - Kevin recently said "This makes me wish Wallace was the next character."

Waverly - Curses and spells? That's an awfully close link. However, she has no in-game model, sound or a big picture.

Wilbur - Monkeymen on the next floor of Caves? He has a crown? The crazed Monkeymen king?

Anyway. A short reasoning on each, and now I shall give you my verdict on each.

William - I think we have a while to run with the William storyline yet.

Woodie - I think Woodie fits the clues like a glove. He looks crazy enough for a talking item. Insanity his curse?

Webber - Very underprepared and the things going for him also go for the more prepared chars.

Wilton - The most prepared char, probably. Fits the theme of the curses perfectly. A contender.

Winnie - Technically one of the most prepared chars. An outside chance.

Wortox - Has recently been changed, certainly fits curses, less ready than Winnie.

Wallace - Judging by where that quote was lifted from, I'd be INCREDIBLY surprised.

Waverly - Not enough done I don't think. Not well prepared enough. No matter how well she'd tie in.

Wilbur - Too much speculation for a reality, possibly. But wait until the Ruins level is done.

Most likely; (IMHO) Woodie or Wilton. Outside chance of Webber, William or Wilbur. Likely chance of an unexpected twist I didn't forsee in this post.

It just occurred to me that Webber makes a lot of the next update too. If we assume the curse was what made him into a spider, and as a spider he cannot talk, then my previous idea of how the talking item might work is valid here too.I'm betting on Wilton or Webber. If Webber's abilities has to with spiders, he also makes sense as being a lot more work to code because like half the game reacts differently to spiders.EDIT: Curses, beaten to the punch! Why does everyone want Woodie anyways? He's fun looking at his big character portrait but compared to the other possibilities he seems fairly boring. Also call me pessimistic, but I don't his zealousness having any sort of link to talking items or curses.

Another thing occurred to me that would be really creative and unusual as far as the survival genre; what if it's WInnie with the curse, and he's got that every anime plotline TG curse? Bit of a stretch but Klei does like to throw us curveballs.

Maybe. Could you un-quote my old post and re-quote my updated one please? :)

Nah I'll just do this. :p

Good thoughts on Wilbur coming with the ruins!

Why do I always think his name is Wung...
