I mean- what is there to say that hasn't been said already?

The update is exactly what I would have predicted 2 years ago when the From Beyond arc started. Because it's the exact same beefalo dung we got with the Return of Them arc. Unfinished, Unsatasfying, and who knows when they're actually going to get around to fixing it?

I will say though, something that completely baffles me is just how stubborn Klei has been on making you have to evict Pearl. Not because it's a bad choice mind you. I understand it from a narrative perspective. But because every single rift-focused update has had problems with base destruction, and now they've gone and made it a required part of the end-game progression.

Genuinly, you'd think after the mess that was acid rain and cave-ins, Klei would step back and go "Yeah alright, maybe we should try and make our sweeping world changes a bit less destructive". But no, they just kept doing it. And I genuinly struggle to understand why this is a reoccurring problem.

Can't vote from mobile for some reason but Pearl's eviction and island destruction easily made this the worst game update ever to me. Developer's stubbornness and ignorance on this matter overweighted all the positive things that could have come with this update. Usually I'm thrilled when I see the new DST update and can't wait to play it and buy all the new skins and try new content. But for the first time 'm not excited about the new update at all and would rather have no update than what we got. I'm not even excited about the new skins even though there are a lot of good ones - any other time I would have bought all of them already and happily used for playing the game. But now I just sadly scrolled through them, knowing I won't spend a dime on this game anymore out of principle, because I don't want to support the company who butchered my favourite game. I'm so upset with this update I can't even force myself to open my world and see Wagstaff and his ugly junk on my pretty Pearl's island. I lost any will to play this game.

I want survival in my survival game. We haven't gotten anything truly new since Antlion and the Varglet. Though I suppose Greater Depths Worm counts, even though it can be despawned. I don't need bases to be destroyed, just inconvenience me in some way so I desire to fight these countless bosses Klei wants to keep adding. That's all! Just add more survival stuffs! Please I beg of you!

Thinking about it, it really needs a vote cancellation function. I can't count how many times I made a mistake and voted the wrong choices...

Well, Pollmate constantly creates polls as we needed, so I guess they'll create other polls after shock sprites or something are implemented.

As others have mentioned, this is a very… mixed update all things considered. I try to be optimistic, and admittedly apart from some aspects I did like this update quite a bit. I get why people are unhappy, though.

-Obviously I can’t really talk about this update without addressing the koalaphent and winter koalaphent in the room; both being the early release and the forced eviction of pearl.

I don’t like how the update came out early, but I appreciate that Joe left messages about why it had to happen (most notably related to a release that valve promised would happen on that date), which compared to other particular updates is at least considerably better in terms of communication.

Pearl is another entirely different story. I will say once again that I had no major stake in Pearl basing, so while I was okay with doing the boss on the island, a ton of people were not. I appreciate that Klei tried to handle this via adding the rehome kit, but I do feel it needs to get reworked to allow you to place her assorted buildings and the house itself better, alongside being further away from the water (I was thinking in particular if the house could be within lightning rod’s distance of the water, and the other structures were within a lightning rod radius of the house). Obviously, the best course of action would just be to not have the fight on her island and instead another one that could be sacraficed for this purpose, but Klei is very hesitant to take that route for some reason.

-The boss fight is pretty cool. It’s got a noticeably steep curve reminiscent of fuelweaver, particularly the second phase. It’s killed me twice so far on my megabase world, which is a very unique change of pace as apart from a shadow piece incident I’ve never died to a boss on this world before. I look forward to getting better at it, since there’s a lot I can certainly improve on.

-Loot is… Okay? I love the crown, but it needs tweaks to the enlightenment filter/ambience, and I don’t buy getting an item from the shadow side to handle something like a filter is a “good” solution. Mods should not be the way to reduce eye/ear strain. I also personally don’t like how the crown attracts the new gestalt constantly, and especially not when it can instantly kill you from full health as most characters if you accidentally get caught off guard. It would be better if the latter functionality was moved to a new item or the jewels being on the ground, as I understand the application of wanting to farm brilliance, but it really shouldn’t be tied to an item you will wear constantly (and again, needing to acquire both the lunar/shadow items to “fix” an issue like this is not my cup of tea…)

The drones are really cool, but what kills them for me is needing to mend them with drone repair kits every time you need another. Because of how brutal WARBOT/Scion are to kill, it in turn makes the drones extremely expensive to maintain, all for Passable performance at best. I would love to see the drones, after initially repairing them, use WARBIS repair kits from then on to keep maintained

-QOL is nice as always, as a former PS4 player I am very happy controller tweaks/Kleimetric placement got added for console users. I know that’s a huge thing and I know a lot of people will be happy about it. The bundle wrap/odd skeleton changes are nice too

Overall, I’m mixed, but I’m also hopeful, I suppose. I hope the other changes like lunar hail and tweaks to items currently in the update will sway me much better to the “satisfied” side.

Of course great depths worm counts, how it should not? It's 101 the same as Deerclops, Bearger, Moose/Goose (DS), Dragonfly (DS) and they despawn (apart Bearger). I jumped in happiness when the update was dropped and said these exact things "we haven't got a normal boss sandbox since Antlion, aka 2015".

honestly unless i did try a dual poll setup to gather both initial impressions and more mellow takes over time i don't think there's much difference - regardless of how early and how late a poll has been, it's usually matched to the mood of discussion in the forums. unless there were/are patches to alter a majority of the content present in a patch

for the moment i'm deciding to hold this poll early because of how strong opinions already were prior to leaving beta, and expectations are so far being met. but if there's a patch that seemingly shifts discussion i'm all for a round two. Also, i'll include a "Have you played the recent patch yet?" option for future postmortems.

I enjoy the new update since I enjoy bosses, my issue is your reward is a bayblade that chops for you, its alright but bearger exists so I won't use it much. And the main reward which is the CC crown upgrade is so underwhelming IMO, I really hopped for something unique for killing the "final lunar boss" but all you get is a crown upgrade that makes you no longer lose sanity, which sounds good but your already so far it's not that useful for that so all you get is a bit more dmg per hit forever instead of sometimes.

So pointless major boss, with pointless tiers of loots as reward that makes survival in a survival game even more trivial while also at the same time doing irreversible damage to your worlds? Sounds Legit.

Wandering Trader is pretty cool. It added a new option for getting gears without unreliable setpieces or ruins. IMO, the ability to get gears should be accessible to all skill levels due to the crucial structures they let you make. Living logs, and gems also seem pretty nifty in their own way.

Drowning changes work, but are a little overkill. I would say it's a bit of a band-aid fix to issues with sailing rather than a proper balance change. Drowning is not an issue for experienced players, but is extremely punishing for newer players trying to operate an unevasive fragile boat. In my opinion, this issue stems from the fact that we lack options, some of them are not good enough, and some of them are locked behind being acquainted with sailing even if they shouldn't be. I think it's really stupid, and backwards to lock a basic semi-functional safety measure in the form of shell bumpers behind either finding Pearl or grinding Slurtles for 8 hours(let alone the only good one being locked behind Crab King).

Main menu is gorgeous, but the animation is really choppy. I think it would be better as a still image.

I don't actually care about the main part of the update as I am NEVER reaching it, and the boss just looks boring.

Yeeesssss, thank you!

(Btw it's a problem for experienced players either. It's a problem for everyone)

I wish we had a better break down of aspects of dissatisfaction. I find the QoL great and the boss.... kinda meh.... so in that regard.... my overall satisfaction feeling is very conflicted since there are 2 majorly juxtaposed tendencies.

Maybe to break them down a bit more satisfaction in between QoL, boss, not delivered features etc "categoriewise" would be a bit more telling data.

That is basically my response as well. I am mixed/conflicted since I love QoL but the boss fight feels underwhelming lootwise and also attack wise to me.

The only thing I dislike is the unoptimazed celestial scion Boss fight.

I am waiting for the community to make a mod to fix it. As soon the boss do the ground attack, I am in a fight against my computer and the boss.

I wish I knew how to code to do it myself.
