RexySeven
It feels like ever since 2020 hit almost every creative content maker just vanished without a trace. Videos are now filled with speedruns and update reviews with minimal editing and effort with only a couple of good creators left. Is this true that DST hit a point when there's not much to milk or talk about anymore in terms of content and everyone just move on? Don't know, just wondering. Ohan
Yeah all the OGs have stopped at this point it seems. Ive seen new channels pop up too but dst really isnt the same without the oldtimers like Orange man Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162133-is-youtube-side-of-dst-community-dead/#findComment-1772034 Share on other sites

Szczuku
Yeah, basically all ds/t youtubers that I used to watch back in the day are gone Oh well, frankly speaking it's not like there's really anything for them to do other than report the new content every time a beta drops Dst isn't a particularly fun game to watch and with the inrigue, that singleplayer had, gone it's not like artists and lore nerds are interested either Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162133-is-youtube-side-of-dst-community-dead/#findComment-1772052 Share on other sites
Captain_Rage
Agreed. The fun of DST comes from playing as opposed to watching. I used to check boss guide videos and a few other references (and sometimes event information to make sure I didn't miss anything while playing) but after learning how to defeat bosses consistently and figuring out parts on my own there isn't that much to check overall. Well-met
not only the game is getting ancient but the gameplay loop is also very repetitive. HeatAndRun
To me, DST was always more fun when you actually play it instead of watching others playing it. The more you know, the more choices you can choose to do, the more interactions you can have. But you can't do such things while watching other's gameplay. Unfortunately, DST is not something like a competitive game that requires extreme reaction time. The artwork and animations are plain and simple rather than being colorful and opulent. And the gameplay loop is very long compared to most of other video games - It's definitely not fast-paced. That's why most of the contents are running low these days except the informative videos. But that surely does not mean the game is dying. I still enjoy the overall experience of DST's gameplay where I can interact with other gears, items, objects, creatures, and especially, other players. I believe other people enjoys DST by the same way I do. Gotta reply this, I'd pay if I must to watch new players solving main mysteries meaning defeating AFW & CC without meta knowledge - so they must rely on their own profound experiences, character examinations, & Scrapbook. I am looking for their reaction upon encountering cool bosses and stuff, rollback is fine like semi-permadeath is hard without knowledge. Falkenpelz
It's the way of things I suppose, but never say never. Games have their up and down phases, remember how suddenly normal Minecraft let's plays became popular again? From what I saw, in the end a bunch of DST content creators were kind of forming sides and I admit I'm happy if this will die out. I recently watched BiddoBams and it looks like there is a nice lore channel on the rise again. All in all, be the community you wanna have and make the content you wanna see. Not always the most satisfying answer, but someone has to do it. nimzowitsch10
The english speaking community of DST is very close to dead. There are no content creators that consistently upload anymore, noone consistently streams the game anymore. There are very few english speaking servers that people play nowadays. Chinese community on the other hand seems to be thriving with players but they also seem to be pretty unhappy with the updates this year. Not sure what happened in particular in 2020 but after the cc updates and farming rework everything has been on a slow downhill for years now. It's sad but I am hopeful it will start improving someday. Maybe once the character rework cycle is finally over and they can finally focus on progressing the storyline which they have neglected for many years now. dois raios
I am often searching for playthroughs on YouTube, but it seems the algorithm dont want to show me the true results. hyoton123
Yeah, it’s been reasonably active on the vtuber side as well if my algorithim recs are right at all. Lardee
If you're looking at this purely from an incentives standpoint, the reason DST content creation is dead is because it requires way more time and effort to publish a successful DST video now than it did before. Take Beard for example. The quality of his videos have been pretty consistent throughout his channel's lifespan, however a video that would have gotten him more than 300k views in 2019 gets less than 30k in 2024. If you go back even earlier, Joeschmo could publish the raw, unedited footage of a day 25 fuelweaver speedrun and get over a million views. Flashforward to 2024 and a Day 6 Fuelweaver speedrun gets less than 20k. Now I'm sure people can come up with all kinds of legitimate reasons to explain why its so much harder to make a successful YT video today, but that's not the point. The point I'm making is that, for whatever reason, YT content creation requires way more effort for less success which disincentivizes people from making more of it. If DST videos were getting the same amount of views they were 6 years ago, not only would most of the old content creators still be here, but we'd also have a lot more newer ones. Echsrick
if you want, me, a nobody, could just try makin a "lets play none commentary.....lets play thingy" of the game, but again, i am a litteral nobody, i will not edit anything, i will just use obs and just use it to like film my play time of me just playing the game not edit of anything maybe a cut if real life things happen midway filming so you dont look at a pause screen for unknown amounts of time, i dont know if you would even watch it, or anyone for that matter, for me it matters not, i litteraly would not even care if someone would watch me or not of my lets play Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162133-is-youtube-side-of-dst-community-dead/#findComment-1772481 Share on other sites

I wouldn’t personally say that. While DST certainly has most of the “general” content covered, there’s still a lot of untapped potential to look into, especially in an endgame context. Though, as Lardee mentioned, it’s much harder to make content for DST now then it was back then. Admittedly, my scope is a bit niche when it comes to DST content I like watching (I primarily like megabase tours and farm designs). It’s tricky to find them lately, but there’s certainly some gems here and there.
