ADM Posted August 23, 2024 Share Posted August 23, 2024 Is this intended ? I've seen people say yes, some says no... me I just wanna say this new animation doesn't work well. It isn't bad, but it is a lot less... striking for the general weapons of the game. Maybe it was meant to be played for a certain weapon, the boomerang throw ? Axes specifically ? I can see this work for some and could have different animations even on the other facings. But for general attacks I really think the classic bashing down on enemies has to stay for consistence and look than having one to be a side swoosh. (New / Old) Do you agree this could be reverted / corrected or what's on your mind ? So that’s quite different than what is still in the game but on different angles, creates a weird inconsistency I can’t be fond of if it’s making the players look weaker from the back. I see it like this pretty clearly in-game. While the new animation feels more fitting for sharper weapons like dark swords. I say revert the up animation for all weapons except axes. the maul should get the new swipe, as well as new animations for side and down. This is a live service game, like it or not. Like in the old one, Wilsons’s stomp seems to add weight to the downward swing, which makes sense. But if you were swinging a bat, you would shift your weight towards the end of the arc, not towards the beginning. I think it should stay for Boomerangs and MAYBE axes too, but it doesn't match on a lot of other weapons, especially with only up angle being changed compared to down and side angles. WhackE Posted August 23, 2024 Share Posted August 23, 2024 I really, really hope this gets reverted there was no reason to ever change a perfectly working animation that's been in the game for years that not a single person has made a fuss over. I could go into a bigger rant about but for now I'll keep this here until we get some more confirmation. it lacks good anticipation, isn't as universal applicable, looks slower/stiffer, isn't as visually interesting. There is a clear line of motion the old one has, from top to bottom following the spear that makes it visually clear for the player specifically for the up animation. The old one has less clarity because it passes the spear behind Wilson, and hides away a lot of that clarity. It also looks a little silly with a spear because it really points out just how... improperly the characters are holding it, I guess? Posted August 23, 2024 Share Posted August 23, 2024 I don't know how Klei changing things which been in the game for years like this and is a part of the identity of the game to me like if they change the goofy running animation the game would lose its charm to me. The new up attack animation looks good, but I hate they replacing the old one which looked great and has been there since the creation of don't starve... they should make a side and front new attack animations like a swing/chop whatever that is that can be used for certain weapons like axe, sword, boomerang, ect. and allow the old animation to exist for everything else. Replacing the old animations that look great with new ones is stupid and it honestly made me sad, they should be adding new animations for different weapons to use different one not removing things that existed for several years.
