I use health bars for training, but I turn them off when I'm actually playing.  They are fun, and useful but for me part of the fun is not knowing exactly how much health there is left to go.  I can certainly count hits if its super important but most of the time its not.

i see no reason not to add this as an option in some way. Im sure it would help newcomers to the game a ton

Nah, here have this very useful scrapbook instead. My inner completionist likes it tho.

Do you know why I hate monsters with health bars showing up ? Because this is the best way for the player at the end of the fight to go fully HAAAAYAAAAA without taking too much care of the damage and tanking like a masochist. That's an example at least, but I would like to get a hint when a boss regens.

Health bars on mobs actually lets you see them coming towards you in a tiny light or even complete darkness, its basically like cheating with one of those nightvision mods.

On bosses I’d probably like having health bars. As it was mentioned above the game doesn’t give you much information on when the bosses are about to die, or regeneraring HP (unless you used a mod at some point or learned from the wiki/code).

They can implement it so that it only appears when you hit mobs and disappears after a couple of seconds.

I see no reason to add this. What is the point? To dumb the combat down even more than it already is with ugly bloat on your screen?

Usually knowing how much health your enemy has left makes you overconfident, so instead of waiting for bearger to swipe, you just hit him again knowing that he will die. same thing for bosses that have health based effects (Dfly for when she goes to spawn her lavae, Klaus and his krampus, AF and the shield phase, Bee queen).

Let me put it this way… A Shaved Beefalo looks more miserable and sad then a mob you’ve hit 500 times.

So yeah I think DST either needs health bars, or updated mob visuals to show them physically taking damage and dying.

Such as just one example: Dragonfly loosing all the scales on its body before being vulnerable enough for death.

I actually turn OFF the health bars and stats for Zombies in games like Dead Island, makes the games feel a bit more realistic, but in THOSE games I can visibly see my hits doing damage by ripping into their flesh or I know it’s “Dead” Dead when it’s head goes Bye Bye..

But in a game like DST- you can’t tell the difference between a dragonfly you’ve hit once, and a dragonfly that’s 1 hit away from dying.

And I think that’s just overall Bad for game design.

Health Bars would also help players to know which mobs to dodge/kite, and whittle away at their hp, or which ones to just armor up and face tank.

Borderlands 2 has BOTH health bars & visual representation of enemies taking damage, (such as skags bleeding and limping away to go call for backup)

I live off of minimalist huds.

I love it when player information is integrated into the gameplay rather than numbers and bars on a screen. I'd much rather have less stuff on the screen as possible!
I love when they're done seamlessly, like Ancient Guardian getting bloody when in stage two, and the screen turning red when your Beefalo is low on health. I'd rather it be communicated that enemies and bosses are on low health than just told. Show, don't tell.

I had a small post about possibly adding a health bar to the WARBIS armor, a neat small buff to it and a fun way to make immersive health bars real.

Otherwise, if the bar is just going to magically display the entities health, I'd much rather not, personally.

I think it would be cool if console players could also have an HP bar though

If Klei added all 16k mods into the base game it'd be a hundred gigs and they'd never get anything good done. Console players knew what they were getting into when they bought the console.

I'm not asking klei to add all 16k mods to the base game
