And ocean and caves updated.

Caves don't have any unique content apart from Toadstool and Nightmare Werepig maybe. Ruins, Atrium and Ancient Archive it's Ruins level.

And the ocean is as empty as in Shipwrecked. Well, maybe a better.

Caves probably. Oceans are pretty barren but atleast there is multiple things out there that have some survival boon/content to engage with. The latge majority of the caves that aren't the archive, lunar grotto, or ruins are largely empty and abandoned. Sure there are the warepig and toadstool, but those don't really provide gameplay depth unlike things like the lunar alter slots and the unnatural portal which both provide things you need that have gameplay benefit out side of going there once and never again.

This would be a very good post to put a poll on.

Definitely the ocean IMO. The caves have a lot of empty space, but atleast they still have some reaaaaaaly damn good stuff like the Ruins, Archives, ect.

The ocean reallly doesn't have that claim. I've talked about the ocean's problems... honestly probably too much. But to summerize, the ocean's main problems are 2 fold.

1. Most of content is self-circular. If you're sailing, then the main thing that you're going to be getting is stuff that helps you with sailing. Meaning that if you don't sail... what are you missing out on?

2. The stuff that isn't self-circular is either pretty mediocre or just a side-grade rather than anything the player "needs". Salt boxes are better fridges, but can only hold uncooked items. Above Average trees are good for dealing with wildfires, but can only be planted in the water. And pretty much any food source on the ocean is; at best; average despite other food sources introduced in a similar time frame are way way above average even though they're on the mainland. Namely Tallbird eggs and RWYS.

So yeah, ocean definitly needs it more.

Agreed. Variations could include dynamic changes over time, like different events / weather / creatures depending on the season (icebergs? fog? currents? creature migration and / or appearance?). I would hate the ocean getting cluttered with nonsense for the sake of diversity. It could use a few additional entities as it currently stands but I would rather see that it gets additional content that you won't run into that often (unless there are specific things that you need to track down / plan ahead for).

Speaking of tracking, the Malbatross is not that difficult to find once you have a vessel up and going and have explored most of the map. Currently there is not a whole lot of things that incentivise revisiting most parts of the ocean. Sailing in itself and heading out to catch fish is rather fun though, especially after obtaining the Polar Bearger Bin.

Customizing boats is also very nice. It could definitely be expanded upon, depending on new threats / rewards at sea. Like making a proper battleship versus something that would for example need lots of speed in order to avoid some obstacle or haul a rare resource.

I believe we have not seen the last of ocean updates yet but for now other things are going on in the Constant.

This could all be solved if they ported SW content. Or atleast take ideas.

I'd like the Ocean to get more content b/c I actually really like boating in DST, but feel it just needs more work and some re-works.

However I'm sure the Cave is actually going to get some enhancements in this arc considering the lunar is surface focused and shadow is cave focused...  While on the surface this came as zombie bosses and some new mobs I'm hoping with the caves it comes with more impactful changes like the purpose of certain biomes getting enhanced / reworked.

Honestly I would want both currently I don't even bother much with ocean after I kill CC, I do go for a trip at around day 500 to find moon quay and that is it.

Why introduce another big part of the world that is completely empty? Caves have been left in the dust for years before turn of tides update. Now both ocean and caves are very lacking and I was very doubtful and didn't believe the ocean would have even close to enough content to make it worth exploring unless klei decided to focus on it for like a long time since the first ocean update.

I don't think biomes will receive any meaningful changes in the rift update, while we may have a reason to go there for the new drops and fights that won't make much of a difference considering how empty caves are.

Both. Caves first.

There's at least a chunk of folks I can dig up from the waters that enjoy oceans as is. Like I!

Caves uh. Well, they've been in for much, much longer, and are SUCH a bore to traverse for anyone who likes exploring.
And even the people who don't like exploring find their generation horrible to build in at that.

Caves are ssoooooooooooooo dearie. And not the fun aesthetic kind.

That's why the caves need to be updated. There is nothing in them except Toadstool or Nightmare Werepig.

The content of the ruins is not taken into account. They're under the caves.

What in the world am I looking at.

Ruins content does not cease to be Ruins content. And you can see how empty the rest of the cave map is.

But the ruins, in DST, are not below the caves. You’re just using this as an excuse to talk about DS instead

is already fun, is only lacking content and minor fixes

you clearly didn't sail long enough to have to squeeze between a tiny part of the ocean between the void and mainland, or run across a spot you can't even sail through because the worldgen is bad bad horrendously bad

And? The rest of the caves need updating since 2013 year

For comparision, here are the caves of pre and post QOL DS:

Even with how stringy the current caves are, I can say with a pretty good degree of confidence that they at least tweaked the generation for the better in DST. Biomes feel a lot more coherent and less stringy in the biomes themselves, and you get far less branches of either nothing or blue mush biomes throughout 80% of the caves.

I would want the generation to have more content, and I think thats a staple for everyone here. But saying they haven’t been update since 2013 is incorrect.

Realistically, all I want is to be able to break permanent obstacles and have a cave dock equivalent. That would make them tolerable for building, which I think would be neat as I think cave bases have a lot of untapped potential that isn’t too utilized with how many things get in the way at the moment.
