Do Forums Ideas ever get added?

Recommended Posts

Yes, forum suggestions do make it into the game.
Several years ago (7) they edited several lines of Wigfrid's because I made a thread about some inconsistencies.
Wait, that was SEVEN years ago? But-
Hell.

I also pretty closely suggested Wigfrid's current inspiration mechanic before her refresh, and I'm talking they were so similar that when I saw inspiration's announcement I was pretty much floored.

I've noticed that Klei often seems to take suggestions from the community, but far from literally, often just using the base ideas as good areas to jump off from and make something unique.

Yeah, they added a Drying Rack skin concept of mine awhile ago, plus I was begging for a Warly chef skin for years and they gave it to him, although I don't know if I had any real influence on that one. I like to think I did but I don't have any hard evidence to support that lol.

As far as gameplay goes, they check the forums and pretty frequently add ideas that people have, you just gotta look for them. I'd say they look more for feedback than suggestions. A lot of cases they will want to add their own solutions to problems with some community suggestions sprinkled in here and there. I don't remember them taking a large scale fan suggestion and just throwing it in the game, but they will create a unique solution to a problem that such a suggestion would fix.

I have another question too, How can you convince them to add your update?

I mean, it didn't really take convincing. I'm confident that they see every suggestion and if it happens to line up with their direction, they will consider it. I also think smaller suggestions are more likely to be considered than big suggestions. The more game changing it is, the less likely it is to happen.

Edit: also the skin came out quite a while after I suggested it and that was just the skin. Even if they like an idea and want to use it, I imagine it would take a lot of time before it would ever be made playable, even in a beta

Alright, thank you. And of course because Klei accepts feedback more than suggestions. So yeah. I have a desire for my update to get added. But I think It'll make it in a few years.

I see so many updates in the "Suggestions and Feedback" place. But do any of them ever get added? I'm curious...

Yes infact almost the entirety of all changes that have happened to Wurt have been forum suggestions. A large part of Woodie's wereform side of his skill tree has been forum suggestions even the goose being able to walk on water was a forum suggestion that didn't exist in the initial build without going through calling out each individual instance of it I'll just say a very large amount of community suggested additions and rebalances from characters to bosses to mechanics make it into the game more so than any other game I've played even if not every idea makes it.

potato cup was a forum suggestion, even if it is only a Trinket (we miss you SethR)

I remember suggesting tea way back in the day as a crockpot recipe, so it's nice to see it in the game regardless of if that was because of my thread back then or not.

heck you could argue that DST as a whole was a forum suggestion since multiplayer used to get brought up sooooo much back in the day. :wilson_ecstatic:

Mandrakes being a part of Klaus' loot pool was something someone suggested when Klaus was relatively new to the game.

They took the community's feedback (including mine) about changes they had made to RWYS nutrient system when they changed more than just durian's nutrient season.

They also buffed the Malbatross durability after I made a post about it.

There was also a change Klei did to Dragonfly where you could not attack frozen larvae anymore but it was a little akward in it's implementation and I gave feedback on that so that when the last Larvae is frozen, Dfly properly enrages rather than when the last frozen larvae bursts into flames.

They increased the drop rates of the Inkblight's Shadow Cloth after I made a post about it too in the Terrors Below beta.

What, how it worked before?

I don't remember the details, but during RWYS development, many in the community wanted durian's nutrients values to be changed so that it would match Garlic's and thus be used in other giant crop combos. What Klei did was not only change Durian's nutrients, but proceed to change a whole ton of other nutrient values as well, stuff that no one asked for.

Fortunately they changed it back, gave Durian that nutrient values of Garlic, and we have the crop combos of today.

Since I made the google docs of all the available crop combos, I could probably get a version of the changes Klei did, but I also don't want to attempt that since I don't want the current available version to brick somehow (though I guess I could just make a copy as well).

But that's the story behind that.

Here are three more community implemented suggestions:

1) Renewable Volt Goat herds

2) Wickerbottom's Rain book (the community wanted a way to start rain since the Mosling bug where you could keep them year-round got patched, this is what Klei gave us).

3) I suggested that more be done to gurantee that Tallbirds be renewable/guaranteed in a world and we got that + more.

I, and many others, were vocal with the Wormwood Skill Set. Some of the suggestions were taken, some weren't. I'm glad the 2 things I desperately wanted were added. (Wall protection from traps and having 1 start point on the skill tree instead of 2)
