It's basically just bosses where having more than 50 damage matters (one thing you listed even does 51, as if that matters). If you are fighting bosses a war saddle will bring it up to 66, more than a ham bat and practically as much as the much more expensive and inventory consuming dark swords.

for the minimal time you save with that, the rider beefalo makes up way more. youre getting everywhere faster, whereas you killing some bosses 5 seconds faster. it still doesnt make sense to me why you would want it over a rider.

Seem like you play this game alone where you kill boss right where and when you reach them. I often have to wait half an irl day for people to come to fight bosses with me.

And rider only + 1 speed, the different is not that much, also for rider, you have to put it in somewhere safe, you cant just leave rider beef right next to boss where it could die, while you can ride ornery beef right next to boss, feed it some grass, and start the fight right away.

You are ignoring the time it takes you to acquire weapons, armor, and healing for every single fight you ever do. The beefalo that barely saves time is rider. You get to places a few seconds faster but lose way more time than you saved needing to worry about resources.

But can't you just kite? Also if you're walking constantly or even for most of a day you're saving almost a minute with a rider beefalo with a Glossamer saddle compared to an ornery with one. I guess ornery might be more convenient, but rider still just seems like the better choice.

I think normal tendency is best b/c you don't have to feed it, but you also don't get damage penalty.  You hit 50 damage with war saddle which is decent.

Although I don't like using Beefs for bosses.  Its too risky if they die.  I need more practice with them.

rider is better just for how annoying is to feed the ornery beefalo everytime you want to ride them

Ornery enjoyer here, I dont see how its an issue at all, I dont know what youre talking about.

Its a small price for all the benefit it give IMO.

Its funny how the topic turned into a discussion about beef taming

Jokes apart I think its probably time to remember us that its fine if people dont like ornery cuz they rather have runner if they even want one Boof in the first place and let it go .-.

Not with 300-400 ping, you can't.

I'd say it just comes down to preference on ornery vs rider. they both have their own advantages and it just depends what type of comfort you need in your playstyle.

I personally do ornery+ glossamer saddle for some sort of balance. I like fighting with a beef, coz i can have my backpack, an anti weather headgear, and a lightsource on hand while fighting. also helps me not die since kiting is impossible on most of my plays due to my character reacting 1-1. seconds after I press a command. (me and my friends live on different continents of this planet). I also have no reason to rush killing bosses the fastest way possible as this isnt a game that has a time limit based reward or whatever.

Oh so when you kite weapon just appear out of thin air and have its durability replenish?

Oh so the food for your beefalo just appears out of thin air? Also hambat has durability for 10 days and if you really want to kill a boss fast there's nothing stopping you from making a different weapon.

Yes, on surface, i can just pick up one twigs or grass if im on land, one kelp if im sailing, cave lichen or light bulb if im in cave/ ruin.
Totallly inside the "arrive 5 secs later than rider beef" budget.

i think you underestimate how much time is saved with the rider.

As i said before, you have to dock rider away from boss so it wont get hit as you dont use it for combat. That mean you have to walk by your foot atleast one screen to get to the boss to start the fight. So speed wise, rider are not faster than ornery when you go to fight bosses, but only when you travel between farming location, or between bases.

For a farmer/resource gatherer, yes rider is great.

But for a combatant that like to kill bosses and mob all around, rider waste more time than it save for the amount of care needed for it to not take damage.

so rider waste more time because in your head it takes longer a little piece of content than with ornery. Sure you walk to the boss but if the spawner is in the other side of the world you have waste a lot more time to reach that spawner with a ornery. Also, unless you do godlike animation cancelling, the dps is way less than with a dark sword (and you can cancel animations on feet too...) so the fight will take longer

Ornery is a waste of time because is slower and needs constant feeding when you are travelling between biomes or between ares in the base which is 90% of the time while fighting is a tiny portion

I don't think that rider is good unless you are playing on world for a really long time and have catapults and other setups for all of the bosses.

Ornery can be annoying as it requires you to feed him every time you want to mount but it is worth doing for a lot of characters.

If you are planning to play a long time on a world and still want to take advantage of beefalo for fighting without having to feed him every time you can just go default tendency.

In most situations, you'd want to pick between ornery and default when they can still be used to fight and travel as there is glossamer and war saddle that can be used depending on what you need, why pick rider when you can just go default tendency and put a war saddle and get to 50 damage, you can use this for like 99% of the fighting you'll do.

No one is going to stay completely focused if they plan to play for a longer period of time, even if you are really good at the game you won't be able to dodge every single attack so I don't believe it is reasonable of you to say that players can just kite.

Why not just use default tendency with war saddle and when you are not planning on fighting switch to glossamer?

agree with the long term thing but the catapults or setups? why? ornery doesnt deal 200damage per hit, shield of terror exists, thulecite stock pile after few cleanings and not everybody likes idle fights

That just seems like the ideal scenario in which rider is the best and probably the only time I'd ever want to want to get it but the better idea is to go default tendency and tame another one after a couple of years pass.

if you aren't going to build any setups for bosses it is much better to pick ornery or default tendency as how much time you save gathering resources for armor and weapons will matter even more if you are going to play for a long time.
