Yellow Gas Effect

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the game, and ever since generating the world there is a yellow effect on the borders of my screen, and now I'm taking damage to it. To my knowledge, outside of those things there is no indicator what is happening to my character. Would you be able to tell me since the developers can't?

Edit: Screenshot attached. Perhaps this is an effect of summer, but it isn't clear.

That is, indeed, overheating, as the previous posters said. Did you change the settings so that you started the game in summer? Autumn is the default starting season, you don't overheat then. Or did you perhaps install any mods? Mods can sometimes have unintended effects, so if you have any mods, try disabling them and see if you still overheat when it's not summer.

As others have said this is most likely overheating, and since your only on Day 2 it is unlikely that you started your world in Summer (the hardest and most punishing season in the game if your new)

A few things could have triggered this, You stood too close to an open fire (campfire, burning object, Lava pit) OR more likely you picked up a random item you found laying on the ground from a Dead Skeleton (Winter Hat, Beefalo Hat) Wearing Hot Clothing when it’s NOT Winter will most definitely make you Overheat outside of Summer.

Since your only on Day 2: It’s highly unlikely that you encountered a Red Hound yet, but these will come frequently to also cause you to over heat in the future.

There are a few ways to counter OverHeating, but the most common Noob friendly Ways would be Hiding under a Trees shade, or going into a cold damp cave by busting open those “Plugged Sinkholes” I wouldn’t advise staying in the cave for too long though as generally speaking: that’s a death trap for all new players.

One item disables summer. You don't even need that item to be equipped since a thermal stone with snow Chester can keep you safe for no resource or slot expenditure. Spring requires you to wear something in either the head, chest, or head+hand slot with no alternative option (other than the most expensive Warly dish, while summer has the cheapest Warly dish) and has frog rains.

Also, if you go in the caves summer no longer exists.

Anyway, I dislike spring because it's annoying, not because it's difficult.

same. one of the reasons i like to play Wurt is her ability to ignore frog rains and not care too much about wetness in the 2nd half of spring.

tbh frog rains are the most annoying part of spring to me.

don't forget that if you have sunfish you can also get full immunity to freezing from rain

Yellow gas effect? Hey bro you sure your playing Dont Starve or did you run into a bloater in State of Decay 2?

(this is a joke post but if you play SoD2 you’ll get the joke..)

on a more serious note: did you ever determine the cause of what was making you Overheat as early as Day 2?

There is a character animation when you are really hot, the character will also say something when your temperature reaches 70, and there's also the sound effects that play first when you're getting too hot and second when your temperature reaches 70.
