Not only does it just stack to 10 for what it's worth, not only does it require 3 ingredients inconveniently to craft such a basic thing (please remove the twig requirement from the crafting recipe!) but you also only get to use it for ONE mini sign marker. I don't want to sit around with a boomerang or do something this stupid just to farm crow feathers for half an hour or more just so I can mark everything. The razor is infinite durability which doesn't make all too much sense, but it's convenient, and so you could do the same with the feather pencil or just have lots of durability on it and maybe even not require any station to craft it, it's a very simple item after all! At the end of the day you can throw them into the fire if you suddenly have feather pencils piling up somewhere. The point of the item was to make things easier for you, yet here I am, wasting way too much time grinding just to get feathers so that one day maybe I can mark all of my chests for that QOL benefit. I would rather just make a few feather pencils I can use for dozens of markings and feed the rest of the feathers to fire as I can very much just do that. Free ashes is a bonus if I really wanted some. Overabundance of not-so useful items is a whole beast of an optimization task to tackle in and of itself, throwing grind requirement is just putting tape on a gaping hole of a problem. I still see rot and rotten eggs around worlds that have lasted for a while to this day and it drives me mad. Naturally occurring jet feathers from pengulls are never enough for me and I don’t even make that many chests/signs. Getting a bunch of them as anyone other than Wickerbottom/Walter is a pain. not even buzzards are guaranteed to drop them.. i really think they should considering the hassle required to kill them. ADM Posted March 22, 2022 Share Posted March 22, 2022 I suggested in the past an upgraded Feather Pencil made of a Moose feather + Skittersquid ink when the mob was released. Some sort of quill with durability would be welcome but I like the first one the way it is given it’s useful in utility and to consume the easiest feather to amass in large amount (well actually it would be the moose feathers but...) I also suggested using pencils to draw or write things on the map with that ink at the desks but I surely went too far with that... That’s just my take on it, I prefer DST with ressources being useful over getting a few and be done putting them in the trash after the first years. Friendly catcoons should not be attacking Webber and Wortox. (Friendly mobs, in general, appear to ignore a lot of things, like how Friendly Bunnymen won't care if you carry meat.) Even then i keep postponing it because it's so bad. Feather pencil should be at least 5 uses and labeling should be much easier - something like press the sign and pick the item from a list or drag the item on the sign (in your inventory). @ZombieDupe like @minespatch said, malbatross (and even goose feathers) should have much more uses. So even if feather pencil is one use only, goose should be 10 and malbatross 20 or something.
