What do you want to see in the WX rework?

WX is a robot, therefore shouldn’t They be capable of lifting heavy structures that normal sized Fleshlings cannot?

Another thing I think would really be unique for WX is that they don’t have a Hunger Meter, and don’t actually need to eat humanoid foods at all, perhaps this could be replaced with something more fitting of a robot.

But then again.. most of what I’m Suggesting turns WX into something unrecognizable to people who play WX..

But the bottom line is this character is a ROBOT and Klei should take it in a fun, new and exciting direction..

WX is normal-sized too, he shouldn't be super strong, he seems like just a robotic copy of a default human. Deleting hunger meter would be pretty weird considering the game's name, also WX runs on biofuel.

It is a lame excuse, but I do believe only english has "They" as a singular, and many professors and people around the subject of language development have speculated that it had been originally formed as an error.

2 directions i can see it going:

clockwork faction character, expanding on the very limited clockwork allyship already in the game (repairing broken clockwork piles with 3 gears) since it's very broken (no pun intended) in it's current state: allied clockworks attacking hutch, even de allying from you when you disconnect from the game, plus the fact they cant travel to the surface basically means they serve next to no purpose outside of some toadstool cheese using bishops.

expanding his upgrade system, giving more depth to the upgrades while probably nerfing his base stats, likely causing a minor uproar among the people (such as myself) who enjoy running around with the highest stats in the game. also hopefully making overcharge something you can achieve with less struggle.

I like the concept of customized upgrades, really appeals to the desire for character personalization. Easiest implementation would be to give him a choice of the 3 non-meter perks - speed, damage, armor. I'd like for him to have more synergy with characters like wilson/winona though, because that makes way more sense than the wicker synergy.

Downsides are abit more complicated. Probably lean in to his water weakness by ramping up the damage or maybe a minor slowdown or a stunned animation of sorts.

His overcharged mechanic is really intriguing, and the first thought i had was an electric vehicle concept. Perhaps a wx-craftable battery + backpack that can be recharged by various means - lightning rod, wicker book/winona generators. While wearing a charged backpack, he moves faster, but once it's exhausted, he drops to normal (no default nerfs). Putting it in the armor slot is a little controversial since it will prevent magi/cane/overcharged speed boost stacking which can be good (balance) or bad (lower max threshold). Maybe give the backpack a 40-50% damage reduction and craftable from the start so he becomes a team-ish player.

If klei can afford the additional animation work, i'd also like to see wx get custom attacks when upgraded. Like Wagstaff's fryfocals, or some missiles :')

He can overcharge himself with pstaves but it's just as terrible as using Wickerbottom.

Yeah, in spanish its usually the male term used as the neutral one. 

An example is a group of people, which would be "Ellos" the spanish male version of "They/Them", the female version being "Ellas", the singular versions being "El" and "Ella" 

Spanish is a gendered language after all, unlike English which is largely neutral. 

Some people are trying to push a new neutral term that ends with "e" such has "Elle" but most people dont accept it, largely for the reason i mentioned, with the "Male words" being used on neutral term, so its seen has unnecessary.

Stupid maybe but:

5 or so enhancement slots to replace his gear-consumption mechanic?

Put in a gem or gear and they will (without being consumed, you can swap them out at any moment) enhance certain stats. Like:

• Regardless of what you put in = Increases hunger, sanity and health cap
• Gear = Greatly increases health cap
• Red gem = Acts as source of heat (X radius and X heat power increase per gem?) -- drains sanity when heating up self or allies who are below X temp, or whenever drying any wetness. Incompatible with blue gems – Note: Does NOT ignite nearby structures/enemies
• Blue gem = Acts as a source of cold (X radius and X coldness increase per gem?) -- drains sanity when cooling down self or allies who are above X temp, or whenever putting out nearby fires. Incompatible with red gems – Note: Does NOT freeze nearby enemies
• Purple gem = Mild attack-damageboost (5% per gem?) -- drains sanity on attacking
• Green gem = Crafting and working (chop, mine, dig, hammer) speedboost, (+12,5% speed per gem?) -- drains sanity when crafting or working
• Yellow gem = Small radial glow (1 radius-unit per gem?) -- drains very small sanity over time,with a more noticeable drain if any darkness is illuminated
• Orange gem = Mild movement speedboost (+5% speed per gem?) -- drains sanity while walking

However, his penalties of course have to be heightened as well. (More damage from rain/wetness, maybe stronger sanitydrain while on the ocean?)

Who cares about those pronounces though? They aren't making you not understand which character someone talks about, so what's the point of correcting people about that? I'd understand if that'd be about a living person, but WX is just a bunch of code and pixels.

wx is a fictional character yes but generally it is harming real people to misgender fictional characters while entirely aware of it, it hurts to see a character whos the same as you get repeatedly misgendered by literally everyone, especially when this little "but theyre fictional its pixels" argument is always backed up by several known known transphobes in this community who the moderators refuse to do anything about

wx-78 is the only character in this game that goes by they/them, it is so little effort to acknowledge as just a singular little crumb of non-human representation in media and it is depressing that there is so much resistance to referring to them as such

in this situation i ask of you to imagine if there was some form of media with a character that was consistently referred to as she/her in their media but everyone in the community surrounding that media referred to her as he/him, and each time you tried to ask them not to do that, they gave a deflecting answer like "hes just a bunch of pixels". it is just as bad of the community to do this with a character that goes by they/them

If it hurts for you to see as someone "missgenders" a fictional character that doesn't exist and doesn't cause sympathy at all like WX it sounds like some kind of psychologistic problem.

I imagined that situation and I would be perfectly okay with that going on even though it's not really close to our example. I don't understand how it's bad from the community's side to do something like what happens with WX.

 

Anyway, I feel like we've gone to a bit wrong direction in this thread. It's a thread about rework ideas, not about another WX misspronoucing conversation.

Well...personal wishlist:

• Alter The End Is Nigh so it's still just as powerful for Wicker, but not an issue that WX's design has to dance around.

Basic concept:
 Make it equippable and targetable ala Forge.
  Most of the lightning hits the targeted spot, charging/zapping things within the AOE with each strike.
  The remaining lightning attempts to strike nearby, following normal prioritization rules.
  6 strikes on the target, with each having a 50% chance to cause another strike nearby.

If you want to tweak it some more, this lightning could just charge a different amount from what normal lightning does.

• In exchange, let him charge via all electrical sources. (Hello Electric Milk. And Moongleams. And Winona's Generators. And...)
• Add old/new sources of lightning that all characters can access.
• Make remaining charge time trackable via meter, and implement a max limit (a few days at least, playtest to see what feels right please god playtest it).
• Wetness damage rework; the damage trigger's implementation is just...strange. Leftover of the game's early days.

 

There've been a lot of good suggestions for how upgrades could work, but those are what I'd like to see happen with his currently-existing mechanics.

WX-78 wasn't specifically written as a non-binary character originally. The early concept for WX was "Are they a boy trapped in a robot body or are they a robot that thinks they are a boy trapped in a robot body?" and it was left open ended for fun.

However as time went on, a lot of people wrote to us and thanked us for having a character that they could identify with for many different reasons.

These comments came from a lot of different players with a wide range of perspectives. To some players, WX represents not fitting in and not conforming with what other people might expect of them. Not just players that don't conform to traditional gender or social expectations but also players on the spectrum and even some people who said that they feel like they "don't fit in." Regardless of the exact reason, they all appreciated a character that they felt in some way, even if just a little bit, represented an aspect of themselves.

So that's who WX-78 is, the WX that we try to preserve and just some of the reasons people can be protective of that aspect of the character.

But beyond all that, intentionally misgendering somebody fictional or otherwise is a jerk move. So please don't.

i won't ramble on too much but seeing this statement means a lot to me

wx is a character that brings me a lot of joy. i love talking about them and discussing ideas about them. threads like this are what i want to participate in. their gender is not the only reason i like this character so much, but it is a big part because i see a part of myself in them

but threads with wx have been difficult to go through because of constant misgendering. and when presented with corrections, people literally say they don't care and continue to use incorrect pronouns. i do not know if people realize that this lack of care towards a fictional character's pronouns also demonstrates a lack of care for real people, and that really hurts

i've been afraid to talk on these forums about this because of the lack of care many of these wx threads show. but with this statement, i feel like i can say something

also really really appreciate this!! must admit was actively discouraged from using the forums due to stuff like the whole cycle described above of someone misgenders wx > theyre corrected > they say they dont care (and also sometimes that they hate minorities) > they continue doing it, and its really really nice to have an official statement like this to point to in the future <3 <3 <3
