Iconer
Hi, since the last update, Steam always asks me, if I want to launch Don't Starve Together as 32bit or 64bit. Can I somehow force the game to remember my choice? I think the dialog is a little bit annoying.
prettynuggets
well i didnt get that cus i dont open the game thro library... u can just make the game shortcut somewhere ?
SomebodyRandom
Left-click Steam's Icon in the task bar & click on Don't Starve Together. Otherwise you can make a shortcut on Desktop or another place you use frequently.
SDavid
This! A launch option in the game's settings would be amazing.

NightfallsCurse
If you open it in a way that isn't through steam (such as from your taskbar), you can skip the launch dialog every time
Cheggf
All games with a popup like that need an extra click to open through the Steam client. Opening the game a different way like a shortcut is the only way to skip past it. I wonder why it can't just be in the options menu, and it tells you a restart needs to occur for it to take effect. zacqiang
Do you want to remember it as 64 bit or 32 bit? It wasn't specified in your post. I personally think that clicking twice just to open the game in 64 bit is too much a hassle, I eventually did this: Clicking the 'Play' icon on the DST 64 bit (the second one) directly opens the game in 64 bit, while showing that I'm playing DST (the first one) to my friends on Steam and Discord. ADM
Instead of using the Steam library you could also add a shortcut to the game 32/64 bit launcher on your desktop or wherever you find it convenient It's located in the bin or bin64 folder of the game, you can access by the game properties
MondayNight
Well OP, seems you got your wish - now it automatically opens the version for your system. Problem for me is - it tries to open the 64-bit since I have Windows on x64. Even bigger problem - this version never worked for me since KLei launched the 64. Tries to start and crashes immediately without any error message. Don't know what KLei did, but now for me, clicking the Play button in Steam results in instant crash after insta-crash. I've tried to go in folders, respectively "\Don't Starve Together\bin" and 2x click on dontstarve_steam.exe -> instant crash. Going in "\Don't Starve Together\bin64" and click on dontstarve_steam_x64.exe -> below error: I've tried to find out more about this "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll" file, and I came upon next site - www.dll-files.com/api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll. Having no clue what version I require (if I even require one from this page), I opted for first, since it said is for x64 architecture. I've followed the instructions on said page, placed file in "\Don't Starve Together\bin64" and to my not-at-all surprise, got another error: By this point I think I don't care anymore. I either take all those versions and try, yet I got a feeling is futile. Or... uninstall DST. Again Waterlogged update proves to be most buggiest mess of an update ever to came, since I never had any problem with DST in past... till this year. At least prior to this thread I could opt for the 32-bit that was still working for me. Now... c'est la vie. Guess this is where my DST adventures end, eh?! PS: maybe the "Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether" client_log might help with a suggestion, any suggestion: Quote [00:00:00]: Don't Starve Together: 475914 WIN32_STEAM [00:00:00]: Build Date: 6578 [00:00:00]: Mode: 32-bit [00:00:00]: Parsing command line [00:00:00]: Command Line Arguments: [00:00:00]: Initializing distribution platform [00:00:00]: Initializing Minidump handler [00:00:00]: ....Done [00:00:01]: Steam doesn't seem to be running. Literally created a forum account to ask why steam no longer ask me if I want to run 32-bit or 64-bit, and why it still run the 64-bit version when I try launching DST from \Don't Starve Together\bin folder. With the 64-bit I don't get the instant crash on launch, and even though supposedly it doesn't require more resources than 32-bit I've had unbearable lag and rubberbands even in solo world. I was playing with a friend till 2 hours ago, went to eat a bit and watch some news, when I came back and trying to start DST again to check something, surprise-surprise: the above problem I've listed. Now I literally can't play DST anymore, no matter the version or start method. Yeah, you are not alone, many people have horrendous experiences with the aforementioned 64-bit version. Not to mention many private and dedicated servers experience extreme lags when swarm mobs (spiders, bees) are on screen and have Cave shard crashing a lot. QuQuasar
Can confirm, I'm also seeing the game crash silently with no error message on startup. This appears to be a problem with the 32-bit executable (the 64 bit executable successfully throws an error on account of my 32 bit OS). The game was running fine this time last week. I've run through the troubleshooting guide (https://support.klei.com/hc/en-us/articles/360029555352-DST-Is-Crashing-DST-Won-t-Start) and tried verifying files, updating graphics drivers, re-installing the game and re-starting my computer, all to no avail. I simply cannot get DST to run on my 32-bit PC. I've been playing the 64-bit game on a different computer and have experienced no problems with it. Can you post you client_log.txt and can you run dxdiag from the Windows start bar, and then "save all information" and send it over to me in a PM? We'd like to see why Steam thinks you have a 64bit OS. @x0-VERSUS-1y Can you open up "Add and Remove Programs" and search for "Microsoft Visual C++", and send a screenshot of which redistributables you have. I suspect the 2008 x64 package is not installed on your machine for some reason.

I suspect the 2008 x64 package is not installed on your machine for some reason. Done - I have the next versions installed: 14 minutes ago, QuQuasar said: ...the 64-bit version of DST does not work on my PC: I can only run the 32-bit version. Note: the option to choose between 32-bit and 64-bit has come back, so I can again play the game. Same and same. The 64-bit insta-crashes while the 32 one works fine. Can confirm second part too, the option to pick between the 2 is back, and now I can properly start DST 32-bit which, again, is the only one that works for me as well. If it does can you send us that file?
