Why is there a special thanks to Klei when starting a game called Darkest Dungeons? What involvement did Klei have with this weird little turn based RogueLike?

They're friends (at least at the time of release)

They all live near Vancouver :steamhappy:

The New DLC for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge (Dimension ShellShock) adds a brand new RogueLite Survival Mode, and I am absolutely in LOVE with it.. the original game was great as it was, but now it’s even better!

My question is a simple one: IF Shredders Revenge, A game that wasn’t even a RogueLite.. can get an actual RogueLite game mode, is there still any hope at all of DST (a spin-off from a game franchise that was once a roguelite) EVER getting an actual RogueLike mode?

As Klei can clearly see- There’s a lot of popularity behind these kind of modes/games.

Sure it was an Obscure concept back when DS first released in 2013… but 2023 is proving itself to be the year of the Roguelite/Likes.

Dimension Shellshock was a Delightful surprise I never saw coming, that took a game with an already great campaign, and added a Survival Mode I can endlessly enjoy.

Now I can only hope Klei sees this spike in popularity for these kind of games/modes and takes DST back to its DS roots.

What do you mean by returning to DS roots exactly? What changes should be made to add more rogue like elements?

Does the community want a roguelike mode?

In my opinion, I think a good bit of the community would prefer a RogueLike mode, over spending 8 real world hours just to reach maximum friendship with Pearl.

DST is currently a roguelite (graduated from roguelike with the introduction of skill trees) because if the entire server dies without reviving the world will reset. I don't see how it could get more roguelike than that. You already start with nothing and if you die & revive you go back to nothing, but can pick stuff up off the floor. Unless you're suggesting that one person dying resets the world for everyone or something.

What I want is something similar to what solo DS had, where you quest through several different worlds, and failure in one world means starting back over in world 1.

DST May largely be focused on the “Together” part of the game, but Klei needs to also consider that there are options to play with a max player count of 1.

Personally I’d love for a DST adventures mode to NOT be single player though.. i would prefer a cooperative experience, even if it has to be limited down to just 3-4 players… (Nintendo Switches Cap)

In DST the game is treated more like an open ended sandbox, however single player don’t starve.. particularly Adventures Mode was more of a RogueLike experience, you attempted to journey through several chapters of a world, and dying in chapter 5 meant starting over in chapter 1.

With most RogueLites (at least the ones I play..) there’s always an element of randomness, from what spawns in the game world, the loot you will find, and permanent game save file deleting death always being a major factor.

Take the new TMNT game mode as an example: Every level is randomly choosen, the mobs you’ll encounter on said level aren’t always the same, health Carries over from Zone to Zone.

I just bought a game the other day called Outbreak Endless Nightmares- The Internet tore this game apart as being “bad” like really really bad, but I went into it expecting an old school classic RE 1, RE 2, Or ClockTower (all on PlayStation 1) Experience but with random map Generation and permanent death being a factor.

The game delivers on all those aspects and I’m having a blast with it.

DST actually does have a setting toggle so that dying at all means instant world deletion, no becoming a ghost, no chance at revival.. death is the end of your game world.

But that doesn’t make DST the RogueLite DS was…

You need different zones to travel into, different objectives to complete, and failure means starting over to try again from the beginning.

maybe with some earned skills/perks/characters unlocked from previous playthroughs but you get the idea.

I would love for Klei to add an actual RogueLike mode to DST, if TMNT an arcade beat ‘em up can get one- Why can’t the franchise that introduced me to the genre of RogueLike/lites?

Thats literally all I’m asking…

Why do I need to spend 8 real world hours trying to reach maximum friendship with Pearl? I enjoyed Solo DS as I quested around the map trying to gather all the Teleportato parts to travel to the next chapter..

And what do you get after reaching max friendship with Pearl after this multi hour quest?? You get a few new lure blueprints, a tackle box, and a Shiny Pearl that’s only reason to exist is to fight a boss you need to spend hours gathering supplies to prepare to battle.

This isn’t the Dont Starve that I once loved anymore… but can you blame me for wanting back what drew me into the franchise in the first place?

wanda and her teleportian watch will be of assistance if you have purple gems to spare, other than that watluh or beefalos will do
