"Lit Workplace" is weird (Or: "How I learned to embrace eating in the dark")

Edit: Greetings, visitors from the future. I have good news!

Fixed in Meep's Mandatory Recreation Content Pack!

Begin Original Post:

Since it is rather non-obvious what the "Lit Workplace" buff affects (and because I think I probably helped spread some false information in that regard), I did some testing today.

The good news: Light does appear to have an effect on duplicant food!

The bad news: That effect is a molecular decimation (or thereabouts) that leaves your duplicants hungrier!

Let me explain:

I set up 4 "experiment cells" with the following properties:

 - Lamp (Rowan)
 - Lamp + Mess Table (Nails)
 - Mess Table (Nikola)
 - Empty Control Cell (Jean)

Using sandbox mode, I spawned in the above duplicants, and they all had identical calorie counts. Since they were in a small, climate-controlled room, there is nothing to spend excess calories on, and so they should remain at the same calorie count if they are fed the same items.

Each duplicant was given a single Mushbar (again, sandbox mode spawned), which should have added an equivalent 800 calories. And yet, now you see how the light has done it's evil work -- Nails and Rowan both are hungrier than their peers. (With Nails having sacrificed an additional 10 kcal to feed the dining table - something the canny Nikola avoided due to not using his dining table (despite it being assigned -- an unrelated bug, presumably).

So a word of warning - keep your great halls dark, lest you needlessly waste food as your dupes grow hungrier!

So they're eating the food 15% faster, but aren't gaining kcal 15% faster? The end result is that 800/1.15 => 695 => 105kcal of the mush bar should vanish... which it looks like it does indeed vanish.

Cool find!

I've been having 5 shine bugs in each of my great halls for probably over 800 cycles /facepalm

I totally did notice my dupes were having this weird hungry debuff but could not understand why, at all. They're feeding on stuffed berry, they have ample time to do so...

Welp. Abyss bugs it is, then. Very good catch!

A Dupe will automatically pick an available Mess Table and assign it to themselves if they do not currently have one, just like Beds do. However, I have frequently observed that with Mess Tables, Dupes will fail to use them the first time if they pick it themselves.  Following meals they do use it correctly.

Good catch.   How fast are the devs in fixing bugs like this?

Is the effort to redesign twice worth it, or should we just wait it out?

They are fast. So no worries.

It's hard to make a promise for somebody else, but i'd expect the devs to include it in the next (hotfix) patch they will release. Ideally that would ship within the next week.

So if you cannot wait for a week, then you should redesign.;)
