FlatTiger19
Hi duplicant managers, What are your thoughts of the new Ethanol pools? Are they to OP? In my latest map I started to use my Ethanol pool for power. It creates 2kW of power which i don't need yet, gives lots of water and I have enough space mined out for all the CO2 for now, eventually going to use a carbon skimmer. Just wondering your thoughts on this. If the generator is not running full time you will be able to last quite a while with most of the Ethanol in the area. N00bieMeap
I think it good in Forest start Map and OP in Sandstone start Map. btw there's a Ethanol geyser mod, that's the real OP Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109201-toughts-on-the-new-ethanol-pools/#findComment-1229724 Share on other sites
nivodeus
I have to admit, it does make things easier early to mid, and with smart batteries, you can run it long enough for you to find another pool. I think in a way it helps, especially for asteroid such as Arboria and Verdante, which before Forest Muckroot and this pool, the early to mid was excruciatingly slow. I personally like it and I think it does it's purpose well. Sure you have power but you do need to manage the carbon dioxide. It does help tremendously with water, which is lacking esp in Arboria, and it is cool enough as well, since most of the lakes are in cool biome. You still need to make sand or find tide biome fast if you want to keep up with the sieve. It might be a bit powerful, a tad bit, but I think it's good enough and not too game breaking. nakomaru
New progression paths: seems fun to me. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109201-toughts-on-the-new-ethanol-pools/#findComment-1229735 Share on other sites
Promethien
Its about as powerful as coal which is plentiful in the copper biome. Need to dig to a neighbor biome and its harder to deal with liquid but get some water for the extra effort. I'd say fair trade. Darkin Coaled
Holy crap. That seems a bit much.. So normally to use petrol gens you need to dig way down, pump up some oil, refine it to half mass (+ enough NatGas to run the refinery and gas pump) and that's your fancy powerful energy source. With this you need to dig just next door, drop a pump and hook directly to a generator. Additionally.. aren't most rust biomes freakin' cold? That's a few dozen tons of decent coolant right there. I am not one to re-roll a map just because OMG this new thing! but the fact that it's tempting for me to do that should be worrying. Siromatik
Think of it like starting water pools, give a good way to start early but you cant rely on them for long term. 'New progression paths', everything else is about 'numbers' equilibrium. bobucles
An energy source, water source, cold source and food source all in one? Sounds like a very useful starting material indeed! Perfect for a low-mid difficulty asteroid. wronny
It should also be noted that these ehtanol pools are missing from Aridio's variant of Rust biomes. Gunhaver
I don't think they appear in rime either. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109201-toughts-on-the-new-ethanol-pools/#findComment-1229818 Share on other sites

Rime players deal with other kind of problems, water or energy not being one of those. FlatTiger19
I haven't played on all new asteroids yet. But I do like the new way the asteroids are setup, not just gather all the polluted water from slime biome and sieve it to the electrolyzer for oxygen the first 500 cycles or so. The game makes me use more different resources to create power or oxygen at the same time. It might make it a little harder to get used to from the beginning. I do like the new changes, it's a different playstyle or difficulty setting for everyone.
