Loscil2
Anyone else getting "lead" as refined metal? Recently I got four of smooth hatches eating my iron when I started to notice I had refined metal called "lead". It's like iron but worse. Can't use for everything though. Anyone can confirm? HLa
Pretty sure you dig into oil biome which lead can be found. It's free refined metal, what do you expect lul. kawur
Yes, there's a lot of it in the oil biome. I use it for all my wiring now, saves a lot of refining. It lowers overheat temperature, has high thermal conductivity and melts fairly quickly. I'm sure somebody will find a cool use for that! PaulV
Lead is found in the oil biome and is indeed dug up in a refined state. It's a new addition with the Launch Upgrade. bobucles
For the most part, lead is supremely useful for anything that doesn't have operating temperature. That mostly means wires, but many sensors will only fail when the material melts. It saves a ton of refining time and is a fast way to kick start the transition to mid game. Lead has a "low" melting point which makes it a good material to set up high temperature shenanigans. I haven't seen anything built using molten lead yet. Gurgel
Lead is _very_ nice for running wires. Overheat is usually not an issue with 327C there. For some things it is unusable though, for example buildings which get -20C overheat. Don't worry, I don't let my dupes drink petroleum, only super coolant and visco gel as dessert which as study (sponsored by "Leading the world to lead) has shown that they are improved by this awesome metal. The sheen the dupes acquire from this high grade meal is just fabulous. Blue is the new black. metallichydra
as far as i know, lead isnt affected by the "metal rich" world trait. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/108612-lead/#findComment-1222450 Share on other sites

Correct, like the yaml file reads (so it is easily mod-able) it only affects the 5 metal ores (Copper, Iron, Gold, Wolframite, Aluminium) and this applies to Metal Poor as well. Either doubling mass + 50% more bandwidth or decreasing those to 80%. Together in a world they should result in 1.6x mass and 1.2x width. hackcasual
Initially got excited for it, since it's the first non-glitched pumpable metal, but it loses out to molten glass in the temperature range and SHC department. Laksekanoon
Could this be used as a coolant for metal refineries, and in the next step as a heat scource for natural gas boilers? nakomaru
They don't compete for the same range: molten lead stays liquid as low as 325C, and stays liquid at magma volcanoes output temperature. You can use it to keep pulling heat out of solidified magma for petroleum generation comfortably, where no other liquid in the game can.
