Caves Beta - September 18th Update

Here are some ideas. Because you can get most overworld resources I thought of a way to get them without cheating. Well here it is:

 

Boons for caves! I never find any skeletons or set pieces yet so i thought it would be nice to have some. That way you can get things like beefalo hats and walking canes. That way you can get must-have things on caves only without spawning stuff in.

 

Eggs! I'm sure you guys can think of an animal that lives in caves that has nests. I'm thinking what if there is a creature that has a nest with 3 eggs apiece.

 

Gears! No gears in caves only. Tough. How about tumbleweeds underground? That makes gears possible to get among other things.

Slave Server doesn't initialize fully with steam and people cannot connect to it even though they could connect to master server.

Hello everyone. I finally fixed some problems with getting my dedicated servers to work thanks to the help I got here. I just have one minor issue at the moment with moving from overworld to caves. When I go into caves the first time my game goes to loading then hangs on a black screen. When I exit the game and try to go into caves again it works fine. Also when I exit caves back to overworld it loads fine. Just wondering if there is a fix for this issue. Thanks.

can you make same? removed your dedicated_lan_server = true in your master_settings.ini?

I did everything as suggested, but I still get the connection "INACTIVE", and if i try to dig e sinkhole is still closed...  :frown-new:

PS: i've tried on another pc, with windows 7, and I'm getting the same error...

EDIT:

Looks like the slave isn't communicating with master, or master isn't listening... 

On your log there's the access in the shard, I've never seen these lines in my logs...

but the fact that I see that your slave server is disconnected immediatly, that's what bothers me the most

for your other errors,I think it's just problem with time of connexion with both servers are connected and as you saw in my logs it only lasts a short time

the only one that you must have it is indeed the following log:

can you show me the command line that you used for start your both server please?
 
I guess you use two different .bat files on your windows?

it's important to have two scripts to execute each server

you can try with only one but I think the performance will not be optimal
this is what I used on my linux server for my test:
 
MASTER_SERVER_COMMAND_LINE:
 
./dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer -players 15 -conf_dir configs/server
 
SLAVE_SERVER_COMMAND_LINE:

Hey all having trouble connecting to caves i keep getting the Direct connection timed out error after trying to enter a sinkhole.
 
I have the 3 ports forwarded 10999 11000 11200  is there others i need to open also?

 

Not have any luck at all fixing on my own. Thanks!

but the fact that I see that your slave server is disconnected immediatly, that's what bothers me the most

 

 

for your other errors,I think it's just problem with time of connexion with both servers are connected and as you saw in my logs it only lasts a short time

the only one that you must have it is indeed the following log:

can you show me the command line that you used for start your both server please?
 
I guess you use two different .bat files on your windows?

it's important to have two scripts to execute each server

you can try with only one but I think the performance will not be optimal

this is what I used on my linux server for my test:

I launch them both manually, because I'm still trying to figure how to solve this damn problem.

The commands that i use are:

Master:

Slave:

dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer.exe -conf_dir DST_CAVE_1 -console -lan

Another strange thing is that if I stop my servers ( with c_shutdown() ), if I try to restart them neither master or slave connects to each other: if I c_regenerateworld() on master, the slave seems ok... but if I stop them there's no way to reconnect the slave.

this is really really weird!!!

can you explain me when you say start both manually?

 

it's without batch file? can you just try to remove -lan please an test again?

 

I don't understand why you need to use the commands that you described me on the server, because normally just stop both batch file, if you want to stop servers

Hello,

 

I am trying to set up two dedicated servers to run DST and Caves.  I keep getting the error below when I try to start up the Caves world. 

 

I read in another post that they solved it by using

1. steamcmd

2. force_install_dir C:\YourDedicatedFolder 

3. app_update 343050 -beta betacaves validate

 

I'm stuck on step 2, I'm not entirely sure where to install the update.  I have a dedicatedserver folder in my documents where my server folders are with their respective settings.ini files are.  Should I install there in my caves folder or am I doing the force_install to "C:\program folder(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Dont starve together dedicated server"?  

 

Also if I have to do it to the steam program folder...how do I write the file location on steamcmd with a space? For example 

 

force_install_dir C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam

 

I'm new to this and every time i type the above I end up creating a folder "program" inside of my C:\ drive instead of it go through the program files folder into the steam folder. I've tried using an underscore but that didn't work.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

make sure you opt in beta caves for the server  not just the game and do verify integrity of cache to get the update

Thanks, I double checked and I only updated the DST launcher not the dedicated server launcher.  I can see my regular DST game now.  I'm not sure how to create the caves instance though.  Can I just force_install_dr into any directory or does it have to be into the Steam\steamapps\common..etc?  Again i'm new to this stuff so I appreciate any help I can get on this

It sounds like you have port forwarding working for your master server, but not for your caves server. If you're behind a router, you need to have two port forwarding rules, one for your master server (port 10999 by default, unless you have a custom server_port entry in your master's settings.ini file), and one for your slave (whatever server_port you have entered in your cave server's settings.ini file). 

In the normal world i have 10999 and for the caves i have 11001 Both are open

I don't know if this can help you or any of you, but what I found is that first the -lan switch doesn't work, and second I had to write in the settings.ini file some new ports for steam (which I didn't, 'cause I don't care of steam).

Without any of theses, caves doesn't work or Slave-Master communication is broken (-lan flag).
