Question about comfy beds

Recommended Posts

I played ONI back during the times of "Way back before comfy beds were a thing", and I was thinking of using them since I never did before

1= Are they worth it?  Extra stamina regen aside [which Ive never really had a problem with] the decor bonus seems nice but for how much extra space it uses than a cot you could just place a painting beside it and probably come out ahead.

2= Which square does the duplicant actually sleep in? For instance, they sleep on the left bottom square for the cot. Is it the left middle for CBeds?

3= suggestions for efficient spacing? I generally just make two rows of three cots on either side of the Printing pod since that easily gets a decor of 40+ for everyone to sleep together. Since the beds take twice as much room I probably couldnt even fit 2 in there, depending where the square is they sleep. Things like this make me wish I could rotate beds.

Suggestion? We should be able to rotate beds. :p

Well, one should not get dupes fall asleep through exhaustion if one has 3 blocks of bedtime scheduled while 2 blocks is outright unfeasible.

Comfy Beds do come with or rather are required for a Stress relief bonus through increased morale (just one point though in comparison to barracks)

What I did find is that there is no need for special arrangements for Loud Sleepers.

Left-most bottom square it is IIRC

Never place paintings beside, always above. Sculptures are what one places on floors after replacing Bluff Briar and ofc, those dwarf the decor bonus of comfy beds.

Personally? I make them very low priority for I am not fond of having to remodel my bed rooms again. It was already a PITA (to wait) when I decided to move them so that my dupes always run around in Atmosuits (even when showering~). The +1 Morale is not what I currently need, mayhaps if I train Astronauts but I also have yet to get anything besides raw mushrooms currently.

  1. Absolutely worth it. It's a one time investment of plastic, which you'll eventually have loads of, and the stamina recovery bonus is huge compared to cots. With massive bases, sometimes dupes don't finish all recreational activities for 1/3 the night, and the extra stamina bonus can make the difference.
  2. Bottom left corner tile.
  3. 4x16 rooms, with 4 comfy beds, and granite masterpiece paintings above all beds. This arrangement will get you the bedroom bonus and a crapload of decor bonus. If you build the floors out of glass, you can stack decor from adjacent rooms.

Rotating beds seems like a pointless thing in my opinion, as I always start cots out in the same room that I eventually change over to comfy beds, and space the cots appropriately for loud sleepers.

A nice barrack with a comfy bed and all my dupes are fine with 2 blocks of bedtime

Excess bedtime is wasted since dupes will oversleep instead of waking up.

Ideal option would be a "0 block" guarantee that the dupe will go to sleep after break.

One thing to note while you are in the middle of upgrading from cots to comfy beds.

If you've got loud sleepers in a regular cot, they will affect a comfy bed sleeper next to them.

2 comfy beds next to each other and the problem goes away.

If you got no sleeping time and your dupes use exosuits after leaving a central base, you will end up with your dupes falling asleep right at the exosuit checkpoint. (Getting a sore back and just a slow stamina regeneration rate.)

=> If I don´t generate enough stress to keep my dupes using the massage table I will waste more time than if I had scheduled sleep

Yes, the dupe AI is bad.

As I said: the ideal would be a 0 length block that guarantees dupes actually go to sleep. Unfortunately current implementation of schedules doesn't have a good option that works both for dupes working far from bedroom and for dupes working close to it.

But if I would deactivate my exosuit checkpoint and remove the scheduled sleep, everything will still be fine and my dupes will sleep in their bed (without problems for duplicants working really far away).

If a duplicant runs out of stamina he will schedule a last task (walking to his bed), but if this task is getting interrupted the duplicant will break down on the floor and sleep. But an exosuit checkpoint works like an interrupt.

=> If I want to minimize sleep time I should schedule just one block of sleep each day or work without any exosuits.

(I prefer 2 blocks of sleep, so my duplicants are able to recover up to 100% stamina )

I upgrade as soon as convenient for the common reasons already mentioned in this thread, mainly the transition to bedroom bonus and we can take a 'who cares if you snore' approach. the stamina bonus is well, a bonus  :)

I think confy beds is worth it.
I try to give as soon as possible individual 4x4 rooms, with gold floor and ceiling, (or other metal if the map doesn't have a gold vulcano), airflow tiles on the walls, 2 granite paints and comfy beds.
It has so many furniture bonus that the airflow decor penalty doesn't matter.

Actually with comfy beds you can easily avoid the airflow/mesh tile decor penalty completely. When sleeping the dupe is considered to be in the center left tile of the comfy bed so if you place the airflow/mesh tiles that only have a negative penalty of 1 tile radius under the right most tile of the comfy bed the negative penalty doesn't affect the dupe at all. Even when comfy beds are placed next to each other.
