Request to make mad science table a permanent part of DST.

Recommended Posts

It has happened before I believe. I think it is a great addition to the game, all potions are useful, being able to grow Totally Normal Trees is awesome. Maybe remove the decoration and the bats thing for the rest of the year?

But can we please have the potions and the table as a permanent addition to the game? I mean the art and the code is already in there, it would be a shame to make it go away.

Anyone else agree with me?

I' not with you. Why? Because i think every event - seasons too - should have own special things. Year of Varg have special version Varg and Hounds. Winter Feast have changed Deerclop. Halloweed Nights needs own "special".

I agree with Thalkas here, while I also love the new stuff we just got, but it is special because of it's not all year round. If it were permanent, it would go stale after some time. Like if we had Christmas all year, it wouldn't be special.

How about we can make the table only during hallowed nights , but be able to use it everytime

same went with Gobbler shrine , it pacifies gobblers 24/7 ( once a 12th year )

I think I remember them saying that this is how it is during the dev stream: you can only build it during Hallowed Nights but if you have one built you can keep using it any time.  I'm not 100% sure on that though.

I also don't remember either, but he I do remember that he said they would not disappear, and that you could not change nor add decorations to the Totally Normal Trees after the event.

The shrines still work after the Chinese New Year, it would be weird if the lab wasn't the same.

When I watched the stream I heard that you’d be able to craft potions year-round but could only craft the required station during the hallowed nights event. Thusly old worlds could craft potions well after hallowed nights ends and new worlds created after could access these items by setting events to hallowed nights when creating a new world.

In that stream, they said the structure would be year-round, but the crafting tab wouldn't be outside the event.

Edit: You still have the potions post the event, just can't make anymore after it.

That would be pretty bad if you ask me .... Being able to grow living logs is something that is so useful, it definitely should stay year round imo.

I disagree. Iirc, it uses a bat wing which is only a 15% drop, and it takes like 10 days for a tree to fully grow. All for just 3 living logs per tree. If you progress enough, like having pigs chop for you or the reanimated skeleton to farm trees for you, you're overflowing with living logs. The time it takes for me to get a few saplings going, I could chop trees for not only wood, but for 6 logs per treeguard that could potentially spawn. Maybe good for early game though if you want some living logs pretty fast.

I still have to play around with it though.

It is really good because it is passive. U find a bat wing on the ground next to ur entrance - bam 2 free logs. I know it is not the fastest by any means, but it is a passive thing. Very very very helpful so far for me.

+ U know - options are good. This is a game which has a variety of ways to achieve many goals - u can kite things, u can tank them, u can use fire/bees/lead them to mobs or find another way to deal with most foes. Why not have another way to get living logs :)

I say we could make the potions after the event because : constant healing/ sanity for cave exploring/fighting giants , having 30 living logs on day 30 is kinda overpowered but those logs are from a ) guard setpieces or b ) just being a maxwell Woodie 2.0 and chopping trees

The devs made mention in the stream that they would like to keep items like this temporary so they can make things highly unbalanced and such.  They also made the claim that these potions should help out new people experience more of the boss content that they might not have before.

I'd have to agree with the first and disagree with the second.  If they want to make over powered things for fun, then go for it and keep it for the spirit of the event/holiday festivities.  New players aren't going to really collect these potions to go fight a boss, they'd use them on demand because the here-and-now idea of getting things fixed as soon as possible is going to be their higher priority.

The potions themselves are costly to make for the little benefits they bring back- there are many more efficient methods of doing what the potions can give with less effort.  In this case I'd argue that the potions aren't as broken in terms of power as they could have been and adds an alternative method of doing things.

I'd be in favour of keeping the potions around all year.

The 'brave' potion would have to do something else, though, since the bats wouldn't be an issue anymore post holiday.  Like stun resistance or something.

Does anyone else think that making the Mad Science Lab a Wilson-only craftable year-round (or perhaps just the potions tab, like Wicker's books) would be just too perfect? Or perhaps some nerfed version of it?

I mean people have been complaining for ages that Wilson needs some sort of feature that distinguishes him as a "scientist".  Not to mention with the addition of Wilson 2.0 (Winona) he could use the help.

Even all his inception artwork makes it just too perfect... experimenting on chicken with potions.

I mean come on! Look at that!

And his new costume...
