SPOILER - My Zoo from the preview build

Recommended Posts

I think they will be changing what they do and some of them are placeholders, for instance all forms of the pacu fish eat the same and poop the same material, possibly the only difference could be in the quantity but that would seem a bit daft.

I think some critters will be pests versus helpers though, for instance it seems there is a slickster which eats oxygen but I am unsure what it poops out

It doesn't poop anything. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw changes before MKII goes live.

I am not seeing use scenarios for many of the animals.  Why do I want to turn algae into dirt?  Why bother (with 2% chance) to get an animal which makes thimble reeds when this is easy early game material anyway?

You get thimble reeds from the basic version, the plastic version which has a 2% chance of hatching gives you plastic, Some animals are most likely designed to be pests, suck as the slickster which eats oxygen and gives you nothing.

But this is subject to change. Also if you are talking about the Pacu fish i think they will be changing it and that this is only a placeholder

as far as i understand the longhaired slickster is meant to be a "pet". High decor and such.

Sage hatch would be nice for coal early game. But statistically I need to hatch 50 to get first one.  By the time that happens, I am off coal anyway.  The number of cycles needed to get a morph means they are late game toys at best.  You already have to have your designs in place for everything they bring late to the party.

Metal tiles would seem to be better for decor solution.  Why do I need decor in greenhouses?

No, since phosp. was limited.. it wasn't really worth it, they didn't do much.

You could feed them with other food, though Placid Shine Bug only eat Phosphorite, and Crystal Shine Bug only eat diamond.

I hope they give a real benefit, especially with the diamond cost... I wish they made a hatch that eats coal and makes diamond

Yes. +200 Decor looks like amazing, but it's not worthy to cost my limited diamond.

Exactly, all my diamond goes to tempshift usually. Even then I don't have enough. Either have a hatch make diamonds or putting coal in lava makes diamonds.

It sounds like I'm not the only one who finds these new critter variants superfluous.  A hatch that produces refined metal when we already have rock granulators, metal refineries, and molten metal volcanoes that do the same just strikes me as a strange use of developer resources.

How about metal tiles + longhairs ?

Also they consume oxygen, something that seems to be too much of late game, at least that seems to happen to me every time i cross the 500 cycle marker. - But maybe with the dense puflets and somewhat cheap storing options they bring, just using said oxygen might not be of interest.

But then again, adding variance so that you can play more in line of what you want to do, instead of just what you can do, seems good in my eyes.
