This is the only Klei game I do not own. I note that it is discounted on Steam. Should I purchase?

Do you like this kind of game ? Sure, the game has some unique aspects, but you can find game close to it and see if it's the kind of game you like/dislike. Also, if you aren't sure, well, the game is still on Early Access, so you can wait for the release. You'll have a better idea of what the game will worth this way.

If you liked previous klei games (especially dont starve), ....

If you like to have continous early access experience (similar to prison architect),  ...(unless klei decides to drop the title against all odds)

If you like resource management games (see: dont starve), ...

If you like building games, ...

If you like indirect-control-management-games (see majesty), ...

If you like klei artwork, ...

...then you should definitely buy it.

You should not buy it in the following cases...

... low tolerance for strange AI behaviour

... zero knowledge of physics/chemical/biologics (as in "humans breath oxygen")

... zero interest of reading/watching up guides, how-tos on forums/youtube

.. claustrophia

I disagree with you on nearly all of the above. Much of the "Strange AI Behavior" that exists can be directly traced back to the user; there are a few cases where you can curse the Dupe Gods, but they're more rare than they used to be. Also you are the Dupe God, so it doesn't really work out for you.

I dont think you need guides to play the game, some exist; as do twitch streams, but a lot of people enjoy learning on their own. The game has a learning curve for sure, but nothing as insurmountable as say EVE.

And you certainly dont need any real knowledge of Physics/Chemicals or Biology.

I'd answer this question the same way I've always answered it to people whom ask.

"The game is challenging, like Don't Starve with more Systems. Add Rimworld, Factorio and Dont Starve together with the unique art styles that Klei provides and you get Oxygen not Included. Don't expect to make it far each time you start a new colony, but learn from your mistakes and just make it half a cycle, or a full cycle farther next time and you'll be a master before you know it."

Well if you dont like strange ai behaviour your first thought usually is not "oh well, this is most likely my fault, cause i configured the wrong priorities". Your first thought is most likely "this is ****ty ai behaviour. end of story".

So while you might have a point, i was trying to take the perspective of someone who expects AI to be less about I (himself) and more about I (perceived Intelligence)

Not needing guides means failing. I should have phrased it differently: if you neither like failing nor reading up guides, then you might not be in for dupe action.

I gave an example: humans breath oxygen. That is not real physics. But there are certainly people around who get the shingles as soon as they see something with a latin or greek name. In that case the game might not be for you.

Simply because it reminds you of physics/chemics/math/whatever and that is something you have always disliked and never cared to invest time in.

Except when they build a block directly on their own head, or build from the opposite side of the wall. Then you can curse the Dupse all you want! :D

YES !

I'm not used to playing strategy games or RimWorld-like game, but as you can see I'm in love with ONI as I was with Don't Starve. If you like surviving game with really deep gameplay and graphics with DS style, you will enjoy ONI

Strange AI behavior... like the tendency of dupes to dig themselves UP and get stranded where they can't get down?  Or... like the tendency to build each other into the walls...

I'll admit I was a little slow in figuring out why my dupes kept getting entombed.
