I'm hoping that it should prevent your crop from growing and force you to leave the safety of your base to scavenge for food. Plus any food lying on the ground rots faster in winter.What do pigs & buffalo do in the winter, do they huddle up like penguins? The opposite should be the case. Less bacteria and stuff.
