Un-Official Don't Starve Together Positive Thread

Recommended Posts

Seeing all these threads lately complaining about certain aspects of games, or people getting into a banter of small things. I decided there needs to a thread where we only talk about nice stuff in Dont Starve Together without getting into fisti-cuffs. Did you find a nice skin drop? Tell us! Did you have a hilarous moment on a server? Have fun with a pet? Or just want to talk about stuff that makes you happy? Just put those words here!

I'll start!

So a week ago me and my usual group of friends were exploring the caves clearing out a bunch of spiders so we could get through it without much hassle. We came across one of those forests that had a bunch of spider nests and we decided to say "eh the hell with it, lets burn it all" so we didnt have to punch each individual nest and take forever, plus we needed charcoal, all was going well when suddenly 6 spider nests turned out to be sleeping spider queens, as we panicked and fought them tooth and fang, it started to earthquake so we had THAT on our plate, the earthquake ended and barely any of us got scratched thankfully, unfortunately for us the lovable scamps called Death Worms decided it was the time to harrass us, and we were low on armor and stuff from fighting all the spider queens since we only intended to explore a tiny bit. So We had to deal with a horde of Spider Queens and Depth Worms..in the end we all died and had to Roll back a day. The lesson here is...Depth Worms are jerks!

So yeah! post any stories or any postive-stuff you got and share it here! No negativity allowed! >:l

I just got back from a battle with the Dragonfly! It was probably the best worse Dragonfly battle ever. The game didn't want us to win the fight. How so?

This reminds me of a time when something similar happened during autumn or summer (I dont remember), we were fighting the Dragonfly when suddenly fire hounds attacked and somehow through all this burning or somethign I don't remember the Dragonfly fell asleep an the hounds kept attacking him and he never woke up. Also the hounds killed us ): I know, its a terrible way to die compared to th dragonfly

What is that sliced bread thing? oO

EDIT: Gingerbread Cookies? Nvm, I guess it is the Winter Feast stuff right? I'm still on v198*** tho, sorry. :p

I really enjoy fighting Klaus. Klei did a wonderful job working on that fight. It's both challenging and rewarding. The only thing that could make it better is if one of the gifts dropped gems or thulecite, but the current drops are still really nice.

I remember the first time I got to raid the ruins with someone...

We were walking around, he was just grabbing craploads of lichen (he ended up with 3 stacks), and than we saw a depth worm. Me, of course, being the combat addicted maniac I am, easily wrecked it, but then a worm attack came. My friend decided to hide in a snurtle shell, so I was stuck fighting 7 depth worms. Again, being the combat obsessed maniac I am, managed to somehow kill them all without damage. After we went deeper in, we met monkeys. My friend decided to wear his log armor "just in case they start attacking" and ended up getting his whole backpack robbed by 12 monkeys. After being glad that happened, we went to the military biome. Him being an OP78 in the making, started hammering down broken clock works and ended up walking straight into a damaged bishop. He ran back to base, and left me to deal with 2 rooks, 2 bishops and darkness. It was a good time.

(he also had all the food with him)

Welp... this happened

Basically I found two walking canes on the same run.

That actually happened to me too in my current solo world. I also found a miner's hat and I've got a reed field trap in my world. When I first hopped into the caves I also found a dapper vest nearby. Although with all the blessings this world gave me, I'm cursed with no actual rocky biome. So if I want cobblestones I'll need to head over to the mosaic biome or the caves.

(snerk)  I love how the entire first part of this thread about POSITIVE stuff...is actually about horrible disasters.  : P  But _funny_ horrible disasters.  Many of you have already heard my stories of this kind--mainly my epic death where like, 6 different things happened at once out of nowhere and the grand singleplayer saga of the Warrioress, the Bearger and the Varg,  (Which I meant to do a comic of, but I can't draw different poses and such very well.)  Or shorter anecdotes like when the Dragonfly (singleplayer, summer-giant version) suddenly flew up _right_ into my face...and didn't do anything.

That's one of the fun things about Don't Starve--singleplayer or multi, you can get these great _stories_ out of it.  Insane chaos, hilarious deaths, amazing finds, things that just happened to work out in an ironically perfect way, KARMA! for the griefer or the monsters chasing you, bizzarre coincidences and more.  I don't think I've seen any other game experience give me _stories_ to tell out of it other than...stuff like D&D.  Role-playing games.  ("Oh, man, remember that time when we were about to be ripped apart by evil trees in that one wood?  And then our dwarf character tried to seduce the dryad into letting us go?  And it WORKED?"--actual anecdote.)

The main thing I like about Don't Starve is still what drew me to it in the first place--a semi-roguelike game in which _you can actually make progress through knowledge in your brain_, (unlike Nethack where things randomise every time so you learn NOTHING), in which you can start off from the most basic of basics and end up with a big fancy base that looks pretty and which you can be proud of...in a progression that makes sense and yes, often has Stories along the way.

...or not.  But hey, I keep playing Civilization even though sometimes my first wimpy starting village gets wiped out by a barbarian before _they_ have a chance to evolve, too.  :)

I have a question related to this:

Yesterday I was preparing a whole fight arena and equip to fight the Dragonfly, and when I finally got everything ready, the Dragonfly just wasn't in her place at all! I couldn't even find it anywhere around.

It was on Spring so I told myself maybe she isn't there during the season at all, and hope she would be back in Summer. Even when I think in DST she should be there during all year. But that seems like you fought her during Spring, am I right?

To clear things, I haven't even fought her at all in this world, I was around day 50. And my world was generated pretty weirdly in general, with many biomes mixed between each other, some important things out from their usual biome and no Glommer statue at all too... xD

Also, awesome thread @ShadyPK!!

Well, the Together Dragonfly doesn't go anywhere because of the seasons.  It's just in singleplayer where she's the official Summer Giant.  I remember fighting her in winter once.

And yes, POSITIVITY!  Like when a couple days ago I had a lovely long session with some great people--some of which were from this forum--and an old Steam friend I hadn't seen in forever, in which we all worked together, made the base nicer, made more food than we would ever need, decorated the Winter's Feast tree and made random jokes back and forth while fighting monsters.

Call me sentimental, but in a weird way?  That kind of _is_ the Christmas spirit.

...in a kind of messed-up, Lovecraftian pioneer-days kinda way.  : P

...Notorious

Finding a new set of tracks just as you take down a koalephant. <3

I found 4  in a row like that once.  I got lots of meat from it, map exploration, and it even led to a bunch of gold rocks! that night the base was flooded with meat, helms and spears for all.

I'm not sure if this fits in the thread but I'm glad you can still take Slurpers with you to the surface. Since you can't take followers between layers I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep the cute lil guys in my base anymore.

"upon successfully opening a Loot Stash, 6 Gifts will drop containing items like Electric Milk, Winter Food, and Boss loot (except Guardian's Horn), Gold Nuggets, among Charcoal."- Don't Starve Wiki

Our one chance of having renewable Guardian's Horns... So close yet so far.

Edit: Whoops I just killed the positivity =(

You had 1 rule. 1 RULE!

Although that is a good point. Why fill up a present with garbage boss drops (down feather) when you can actually fulfill many players' requests of a renewable guardian horn.

I WOULD like to see Ruin's stuff have a chance of dropping, i mean i know dragonfly drops gems atl east but. could have him be another source. BUT HEY watcha gonna do. During our first days of our current DST world we came across that one bee biome that had a crap ton o Killer Bees (and normal bees)

I'm pretty sure this sums up the first days of Dont Starve in a nutshell
