That fear was then replaced by confusion. It wasn't eating us. Why wasn't it eating us? That's when it spoke, and she realized what was going on: the monster had spared them but was still hungry, so it was asking them for food, possibly out of desperation. She looked around for something to give it and saw the blurry shape of the fish that Trevor caught floating on the water. She pointed to it, hoping the monster would notice. He had nothing in 'monster size' to give it, and looked around to see Trevor's dogfish lying dead as a doornail in the middle of the boat. Thinking that there would always be more fish, threw the dogfish into the water in Meritursas' direction.
