  1. 1. Should Coconuts Fall on Your Heard?

    • Yes, but it should not injure the player in any way (purely comedic)
    • Yes, but it should stun the player for only a few seconds
    • Yes, but it should not hurt the player much
    • Yes, it should be a somewhat significant risk
    • Yes, but with a different restriction (OTHER)

    • No, there's no way to implement it that won't be annoying

When I first started playing SW, I recall being entirely shocked that there was no chance/mechanic for a coconut to fall on your head either when walking by or chopping down a palm tree.

Do you guys think there should be a small chance of being struck by one (if for nothing more than comedic effect), and if so, how should it be done (poll or suggest in the comments)?

imagine being stunned by coconuts then get totally destroyed by trio tree guards while being stunned lol

Yes, but rather than falling randomly when you're around, I would find it better if you could thump the palm tree with a hammer, making them fall without chopping the tree. Chance to have one land on your head and its consequences would then be a tradeoff of getting coconuts without chopping the tree and risking a treeguard.

On a side note, any damage or stun caused by a falling coconut could maybe be canceled by wearing a helmet of any kind, but it would wear the helmet down.

This is a great idea!

So why not make pinecones and birchnuts into projectiles as well? They're pretty big and spikey, great for headaches.

Yes. Yes! YES!

Coconuts are obviously different in nature, compared to pinecones or birchnuts. We could pull the 'suspend disbelief' trope, but logically thinking, if you were a castaway, there is some risk to having a hard bodied large fruit falling onto you. At the least, we could just have a different animation for palm trees when they get chopped (which would be a nice touch, even then), or have the damage they do be comparable to picking the cacti during the summer in Reign of Giants and have some of it be negated by armor.

On subject, I wish I could drink the water from coconuts in Shipwrecked or at least have some Coconut Milk recipe for a reasonably cheap means of restoring a bit more health than a normal coconut. Or you know, being creative with ingredients, a pina colada. Yeeeeah...

I think we get enough trouble cutting down jungle trees that at least SOME trees should be safe darnit ;n; plus there's already the draw back that you don't always get seeds (coconuts) and that you're tempted to use the ones you get as food, slowly (literally) eating away at your safe wood sources.

I like this idea. Some damage and a quick stun would be interesting without it severely harming you. I don't want to be on Day 3 and die because a random Coconut fell on my head but I think I would smile if one landed on Wilson's head and stunned his spiky-headed-self for a few seconds.

This is a bit off-topic, but I think you're viewing jungle trees the wrong way. Palm trees have a chance to spawn 3 gigantic treeguards and have a limited number that you can plant as well as not providing any food if you only get one coconut. Jungle trees give plenty of saplings, free eggs and bananas for taming monkeys, and free monster meat from extremely easy to kill spiders. And the best thing? They can't spawn treeguards (last I checked), so you can chop them down at night with no added danger and never have to worry about any large threats.

Hmm. I agree with this idea. However, I think we could make it.... better.

For example, whenever you chop down a coconut tree and have a coconut fall on your head, potentially damaging and stunning you. How could we make that better though...

What if the coconut was actually a clockwork rook or some sort of murderous robot? Leading to you being stunned with an angry clockwork rook or robot attacking you! Haha! That'd show everyone why not to cut down coconut trees! FEAR THE COCOBOTS.

Of course, where are my manners? Jungle Trees should have an additional risk. Like perhaps an angry bug could fall on your head.

Dragonfly is a bug.

What if Dragonfly could fall on your head?

Well, that'd be quite the interesting scenario to play out! With our powers together, Pwn, I believe we need to influence Klei to put these ideas into the game for a better, more enriching experience.

...Seriously though, Coconut treeguards already are discouraging enough for chopping down coconut trees, perhaps only a stun effect.

Oh my god this idea is amazing. YES!

I'd love it if this could happen, but I think the falling coconuts would work best if they did about the same amount of damage as picking a cactus or a spiky bush: 6 points unarmored and 1 or 2 with armour on. Stunning the player briefly without doing damage would be my second choice. It shouldn't be as much of a hazard as even a weak mob attacking you, because you already have treeguards to worry about, but if it does less than ten points of damage it's only going to kill you if you're already beyond hope or you're playing very carelessly.
