All new members read this

Stop commenting on threads that were started months ago (or anything past page 2) because it pushes that thread back to the top of the page. We have a word for that and its called 'necroing' threads. It happened twice today already so please stop doing it

Considering that people can be stubborn, especially on the internet, I'd say this is isn't very effective. Unless Klei pinned this and put "Read Before Posting" instead of "All new members read this".

Please do this guys, people necroing is kinda my pet peeve

Why do people hate necros? Like, you people complaining about necros make a point, but give no reason. Is it annoying? How the **** is that annoying?! I don't give a crap if a thread gets bumped; if people wanna say something valuable on it, they have all the rights to do it, because you people who hate necro-posting can't give a good reason as to why it's bad. This topic just seems like a like farm; hate necroing? +9999999 likes!

If I had to choose between necro-posting and making a whole new freakin thread, I'd chose necro-posting; that's why the search engine exists, for goodness sake!

Seeing an old thread bumped up is basically the same as seeing a new thread posted, with the exception that the old thread has a lot of posts on it already.

Klei even made a game dedicated to necroing... oh, that's not what it's about? Ok then >_>

In general. necroing leads to misinformation. They reply to an outdated thread or to someone that doesn't even visit these forums anymore. There are times when necroing is cool - when it adds to a still relevant disccusion.

There are many more times where it's not - saying things like "I like this too" or one word responses.

However, making a thread like this is also pointless. It's not stickied. It'll fall below the first page, and instantly become useless.

Even if people do say stuff that's not so relevant, that doesn't mean they should be banned or given warning points. If people can say stuff like "I like this idea" before the thread is old, then making it against the rules when the thread becomes old is just absurd. Just ignore such threads. Necroing doesn't happen as often as people make it out to be. I myself don't usually write stuff like "I like this" and just that, so what's the problem? The problem isn't necroing, the problem is people posting useless points, but even then it's not justified enough to suddenly give warning points or ban people because of it.

I don't know if they're banned or given warning points because I don't do it, and that type of thing isn't public (and I really doubt they're banned unless it's malicious).

You might think necroing happens way less than people make it out to be, but I think you think it's punished way more than you make it out to be. JoeW is pretty hands-free. Remember - People complaining about something doesn't actually make that thing a problem (especially on the Internet).

Sometimes people do things that other people find annoying. Perspective. Elegance. Equality.

Well, each to their own, but ain't nobody taking anybody's freedom of speach away for some necroing.

@jbeetle so it's not as much against the rules as it is annoying for some people? Well, you can keep complaining whoever hates necroing, but that won't change. If say I need to necro, I will necro and won't make a new thread, otherwise, within a few years time you might have double of every single type of thread there is.

The way I see it, it's like jaywalking. It's against the rules but not heavily enforced.

Most importantly, ignore it or report it, and let the mods do what they do (speaking to everyone in general, not you specifically)
