Brainstorming Thread

Recommended Posts

This is a thread for brainstorming any ideas for DST. I'll go first: Poison Ivy. This could be found in swamps and used in a crock pot to make secretly poisonous food.

Finally! A viable recipe for Deadly Feast!! O__O

Making it grow in the Swamps does follow the "Deadliest-Biome-in-the-game" theme...

I think poison Ivy's should grow in forests near the Totally Normal Tree though... because poison Ivy... forests...

... I guess copy the cave lichen's function and a few tweaks on the design...

"O__O"

I ran out of likes so I'll just quote you :-)

EDIT: Got more likes

Doors. You can place these in a crockpot to cause a Lua error. (But rly, doors when)

I'd like to see Wallace added.

Maybe rebalance Winter & Summer. They're just too easy in DST right now. Maybe make fuel even less efficient in Winter and increase hunger drain slightly in summer, maybe doing certain actions like chopping trees could be "Hungry work" and drain a tiny bit of hunger.

Most of the current characters need some tweaking be it minor or major (Wilson, Wendy & Wes don't need anything. The rest all do.)

And finally my "OC do not steal"................... The Depths.  BEWARE WHAT LURKS BELOW!

But yes The Depths. My whole idea for it is to give a bit more life to the Ocean and possibly the entire island. I'm thinking that every few years massive tentacles emerge from the ocean and wrap themselves around a land branch. This can go one of three ways. Either that Land Branch simply becomes inaccessible for X amount of time or the Tentacles could move that Branch somewhere else or even swap it with another, or finally they could swallow that piece of land into the Ocean never to be seen again (and maybe replaced with a newly generated land branch)

But if the final theory of complete removal was added you would need to add a way to fight the tentacles in order to save that piece of land.

- A use for the ewecus drops, this creature is in the beta for a long time and his items still being trash, I think the goo could be useful for some kind of trap or a projectile object with a slowing or paralyzing effect, for the steel wool, I don't have any idea.

- A better use from de lunar stones too, maybe the possibility to make lunar tools with even more resistance that the gold ones or more efficiency instead of durability

- The possibility to play the same slot in online and offline mode as well

- An item that allow to share the explored area in the map with your mates, some kind of map item I guess

- A way to wake up a bird in a cage, just like in the other thread, and seriously we need owls

- A way to ride a beefalo, f*ck through the ages, I want to ride a beefalo now!!! XD

Take it out and put it back in. Then do whatever you need to.

I'd like to see more summer specific creatures, like how in Winter there's MacTusk. I still think a rattlesnake would be cool to see. (but that's probably because I really like snakes) Perhaps after enough skins you can make a hat/coat that helps keep you cool, or maybe you can use the rattler as a weaker version of the panflute.

  • Parry Mechanism
  • A Clockwork tower that spawns more Clockwork robots? Maybe add additional Clockwork entities? Such as a King/Queen and Pawns to complete the Chess Pieces (and maybe an event triggers?)
  • A device that can trap Ghosts
  • Underwater biomes (accessible by diving in the ponds?)

Yes.

If we can ride Beefalo then were should be able to ride otherthings too, lIke the teen bird or a befriended pig/Bunny man/rocklobster (imagine taking on something in a fight while on the back of the lobster! Epic! Also it could give them a little more purpose)

I am satisfied with beefalo riding but if in a future is possible ride a koalefant, a varg or the ewecus I will be very happy. Another useful idea could be the chance to use a beefalo to carry more resources, a kind of backpack item in a beefalo's saddle, just like chester

In the single player version of DS, I find a fun thing to do is make automatic systems. That includes things like fire-based farms, bunny/spider farms, and lureplant/resource farms

With that in mind, I would like more endgame tools for automation. For example, having a machine that can move walls and structures forwards/backwards, and levers that triggers the pushing/pulling of the wall and structures. Wires (made with frazzled wires) can be used to connect the lever and the machine.

You'd be able to make a door, and many more things with some creativity.

So kinda like Minecraft Redstone, Pistons, and the bunch?

My brain is usually eating itself with ideas, but I'll hold on on my 3 pages post for now.

  • A chance for the Totally Normal Tree to fight back, be it by becoming sentient and trying to eat your face in a very friggin' creepy way or by turning the forest against you. It could also, in it's effort to save itself or take vengeance set fire to the forest. But it must be creepy.
  • A more evasive Krampus, that lurks in the darkness or the edge of the screen and hardly ever appears, stealing your items or replacing them with coal. Would need Friendship to fight it, as it will run and avoid you until it's attacked.
  • And you all know how I like the idea of a Dinosquirrel, but that's for TtA

Minecraft

what is a Minecraft?

Edit: P.S.: How do you make bullet points?  Thanks, @Johnny5isAlive

Oh...you mean a poisoned birchnut tree that you can also burn, unless of course your saying it combusts itself to "save" the forest. =)

kinda, but more deadly and terrifying(it could follow you around in some screwed up way and deal lots of damage) and actually transforming(or just going all "HEY, GET OF MY FACE" and biting you...) when you *Try* to chop it not when you actually chop it down. It could be determined by other things in the environment like the phases of the moon or if it is already dusk(I don't really like unpredictability in deaths, so I don't think it should just be set to chance). Basicly they should fight back in a way that is not as easy as the Treeguard or as avoidable as the Birchnut Tree.(but it's first attack should be very telegraphed to allow the player to survive if caught by surprise, while it should do the rest of the attacking faster, to make the player run and have a sense of "I can't take that thing on" after immediatly trying to kite it.)

Now that I'm thinking about it, the Totally Normal Trees could also get up on full moon and be neutral mobs walking(or limping) around, with blank white or yellow eyes as they mumble and murmur in the same voice that yells when you burn their wood. They should give a bit more of living wood, but be more than a normal Treeguard, like summoning small treeguards to help, or doing a swipe attack(I'm kinda imagining it limping around dragging one of it's legs, as it is rotten.). If it gets the emergency fire thing(spontaneous combustion is common amongst rotten dry things) in Tree mode, it should also be unfreezable by catching fire temporarily right after being frozen.

So basicly, the Totally Normal Tree would no longer be a non-threat and the go-to alternative to Treeguards, but an actual force to recon, as well as adding some more creepiness and gloom I feel has been missing after RoG, while not making it unavailable for early game Living Wood like the Treeguard.

But here I go again with the long as heck posts about suggestions...

@RalphKastro, I ran out of likes again...

*mental note: come back here after a few hours*

EDIT: Likes have regenerated!

I love the "Totally-Normal-Tree-Getting-Upgraded" stuff :-)

Should I necro that old post for this?

To Necro or not to Necro, that is the question...

O__O
