Opal, without waiting for an answer; stopped in her tracks, only just hearing the beasts voice from what seemed to be several yards away.

"Man with the book..." she paused for a moment, remembering faintly the odd tome that her friend had been carrying around "Ethel." she said with an air of worry. The hounds, having led them to what they assumed to be a far enough distance away, left them and returned to their master

"Holly is it? I'm going back." she paused "I think my friend may be in trouble, even if only to observe what happens... You'll be fine on your own, I presume." With that, she plunged her left arm into the ground, and after a moment, her body morphed into an amorphous shadow covering the ground, and sped back towards Ethel's location, trying to remain hidden by hiding within the shadows of the trees.

Opal felt stronger as she neared the beast, her shadowy form obviously gaining power from the beasts aura.

"It's just an answer to a question you humans can't seem to answer. Maybe I should just take all of you, or kill everybody twenty times over..."

Coming upon the site, and seeing Ethel with his tome out, apparently readying for battle with the creature, spurred Opal into action. With a rush of adrenaline, Opal [in spite of Onyx's protests] emerged from the ground, the shadows refining into the sort of nightmare fuel the monsters in the ruins were made of. Her body still retained it's human shape, with both of her arms replaced with inky black claws that were constantly changing shape. Her eye's glowed red, the black gem, Onyx; resting inside of her chest >"This isn't a good idea... But if we must."< Opal appeared beside Ethel. Her voice bordering on demonic, and with a wicked smile across her face, she said "You've got that one right, Ethel."

Ethel looks in shock for a moment at Opal, but shakes his head. He has more important things to worry about right now. Ethel shouts an incantation, causing orbs of shadow to appear over Ethel's head. One by one, they fire at the Varg, spinning as they fly.

"Everyone, be careful! This thing is too convinced it's in the moral high ground to be reasoned with!"

"I guess they don't know how to answer simple questions, leave the petty fools by brothers!" The Varg strafed left, all the orbs flying past him. The other hounds walked away casually, dragging the fallen tallbird with them. "As for you stubborn man with the book," The wolfs eyes peered deep into Ethel's soul and a voice resonated within his mind, "You are coming with me."

Ethel felt the sudden urge to follow the beast, it's eyes manipulating him deeply.

Ethel tried to fight the influence suddenly invading his mind, but his legs began to move by themselves.

"What... is this... power..."

Ethel placed his tome in his pack involuntarily, noticing it turned pristine white again. This creature seemed to radiate light energy, despite its claims of being poisoned by darkness.

Jakob rolls his eyes.  "Look, I don't work in this herd mentality you 'normal' people are so obsessed with.  So I'd appreciate it if you'd just go rescue that other guy or something noble like that."

He pulls his sword out of the ground and starts to walk away.

Ethel hardly notices the Varg talking to him, too busy being consumed by thought.

This feels almost exactly as I did in the dream... is this my fate? Am I going to become some mindless puppet to the beast? But... it doesn't have the same voice as in the dream. It must be a coincidence. I'm no one's puppet.

"Maybe it's for the best. As long as they're safe. I can handle myself."

Shana was on the edge of her seat through most of the encounter, her stomach twisting at times with suspense. Viewing events like this and the surreal creatures and powers made it seem like she was watching TV. She had to remind herself that these were really people with real consequences.

"What is he going to do with the boy? Is he going to bring him here?" Shana asked with concern.

"Part of this is your fault, y'know! You can't just have someone taken away in punishment for your misdoings and then not do a damn thing to help them!" she shouted, her voice seething with anger "It's despicable, it's evil, it's..." but before she could say exactly what it was, she was cut short by Onyx >"Opal! Screaming at him is doing nothing but wasting precious time for your friend!"< With a sigh, Opal sat down, her body and voice slowly turned back to normal. "You're right" she said under her breath. She got up again, and turned towards Jakob "Look, I don't care what you do, as long as you stay out of our way." she turned to Bonnie "I last saw your friend, Holly back there" she pointed over to where she had come from "I urge you to go find her, instead of being around scum like him." She turned around without another word, and made off towards the direction where the beast had taken Ethel. (BRB)

Jakob growls, then pulls a piece of flint out of his pocket.  He strikes it against his sword, and a flurry of sparks fly off it.  He sends the sparks after Opal; then his entire body turns into the stuff, racing across the trail in half a second.  He reforms in front of her.

"Keep in mind that your friend would be getting mauled by hounds right now if I hadn't helped.  It's not my fault that he decided to ruin any chance of diplomacy by playing around with dark magic."

Holly waited around, leaning against a tree, turned to Bonnie as she came back.

"... Would YOU by any chance know what happened back there?" She asked, somewhat irritated. Strange things were happening all around her. First this psycho girl, then a giant wolf, she simply couldnt understand. Then again it wasnt too strange, since she herself had a book that could heal & even revive people.
