Zceurvels
Half the fun of the game for me was learning how to play it. But if that's how you want to learn it, that's on you. archblue1206
not really, but i prefer to be surprised on a game contents first rather than spoil everything from a wiki. Toaster Fu
It just depends on what's more fun for you, learning the game or playing the game to it's fullest potential. And I prefer the rival wiki, but that's just me and it is a little empty in comparison. 501105
As Toaster said, you should do whatever works best for you. I used a wiki when I started playing Terraria because there are so many things to make, but I love beeing suprised in Dont Starve. And then you follow up with " but in the name of science I also like to research my enemies before taking them on. Toaster Fu
It's not stupid, they don't want the die needlessly but, they also still want to explore the content. 501105
I can understand not wanting to die needlessly, but a big part of roguelikes usually is dying a lot before getting anywhere because of their difficulty. It's not like I memorize every page of the wiki, I just take a glance at it occasionally when I want to know something that would take far too much personal effort on my part to figure out while keeping my interest in the game.If I read in the update notes that I get punished for killing too many rabbits is that cheating because I don't personally experience the wrath of the karma beasts? And calling me rude? Just look at what you posted. You're blatantly calling me stupid and making generalizations about me and you don't even know me. Nxf7
I learned of Don't Starve through Etho's vids of it so unfortunately I already knew what to do to survive, but it was necessary to get me interested in buying it.After hitting the content wall there's nothing else to do except find out what other little things you missed. Also reading patch notes is effectively the same thing as looking up a wiki, I'm not going into a newly updated game "guessing" what they added since last time I played. fivebetwhale
Wow just the word stupid gets everyones piss cooking? I picked the wrong post to give my opinion apperently. When your just defensive, don't turn anything against me please. Stupid wasn't planted on you but your assumption. I'm not born in england i'm a dane. So if my sentences are misplaced excuse me, but the stupid wasn't ever meant to be hostile, just a poor choice of words.God chill out man, your making me sad. We're good yea? Khrayfish
I'm with fivebetwhale on this one, it seems the OP thinks of himself as superior because he looks up the wiki before starting the game so it seems to him like he already knows what he is doing and he is "clever" for knowing that. JoeW
A big part of Don't Starve is that we want you to play the way that you feel is best for you, given the tools at your disposal. We do not provide an official wiki because we want the players to figure out how the game works for themselves in their own way. If they feel that they want a wiki, we have no problem with that at all. We just don't want people to feel a wiki is necessary to play. Criticizing people for playing in a way different than your own in a game that is meant to be played differently isn't productive or particularly useful. It's fine if you want to state your opinion, but there is no reason to get personal about it.So, stay on the topic and away from personal attacks. fivebetwhale
I see that i actually attacked him kind of harsh, didn't really think about it and i had a big writing assignment lockdown which had just ended, so pretty tough day. Sorry for what i've said, and since this has gotten so much attention from the admins and also moderators; can you delete the posts?Anyhow i'm sorry for assaulting you Chesska. Club
I found this game through a let's play and watched the first episode of it which didn't get terribly far. It gave me a base idea of what the game was but I was pretty unaware of tentacles, tree guardians, wolves, and even the Pig-men. I decided to play my first world on a blind run through which got me killed by wolves when I didn't understand they were a global spawn and not something I was walking to. (They stopped barking, I thought I had walked far enough away ._.)Since it was a short game I played a new world to die rapidly to a Tree Guardian in one hit. Then it was tentacle death...Some people don't like dieing a lot in these kinds of games, particularly since there is little to be done to get second chances. I found that rapid deaths netted me new characters to explore so I was ok with itNow though after I start a new update I will play for a bit and then open a Wiki to see what I might be missing. I've never been able to summon Krampus and was really curious about the rumor of his bag dropping. If you want to look at a Wiki, go for it.It by no means impacts how anyone else plays. Do what is fun for you. A Bad Feeling
I personally like to kinda mix playing it blindly and looking for some info before doing some things. I tend not to look into the wiki's information because they are too detailed, and that kinda spoiled it for me. Thus my main source of information is this forum and the lovely and helpful people lurking here.Love you guys.Oh, and I agree 100% with JoeW there. Club
I will say this for guides and wikis, I'd never have known spacebar was 'pick the stupid item up and NOT smack the pigman/beefalo in the face button' if I hadn't looked it up. I used to play pretty much mouse only and that info has VASTLY improved my game experience. Ora
I have used the wikis before. I discover some things on my own. Other things I look up on the wiki. I don't see anything shameful about it.
