Will DLC bring nerfs to certain characters?

Recommended Posts

I am talking here about WX-78, he is not new Wolfgang, he is new God.

His stats are at least two times better than most characters, this 100 100 100 start is nothing, it can easily be raised to much more than Wilson has just by destroying all the stuff on maxwell biome, and to max with going down to ruins, he has the best perks ever, on top of outrageous stats he has system overload, oh, yes, system overload, it is freaking great perk, it grants you:

-Absolutely no risk of freezing to death when you get revived by touchstone

-You can go back to base 25% quicker if you get revived at touchstone

-If you use teleportation staff you can basically flee without consequences, it also grants you light, so you do not risk death if you teleport at night, it also won't let you freeze if you teleport during winter.

-Free light in caves if you strike crafting monument.

He also has few more perks not listed in game:

-You can use gears as deerclops eyes, only stackable and actually giving back some sanity.

-Starting in the game is afoot and hoarding some gears makes adventure mode much easier.

ON TOP OF THAT, he can eat stale and spoiled food without penalty...

So... will Reign of Giants bring nerfs to him?

Hei guys, check out the full moon time: you can walk out in the night without light and there will be no charlie!

Back to topic: I think some changes must be made here...

First of all WX is quite OP. So I'm thinking because he's a machine he should heat up and freeze faster than any other characters and the more he's freezed his speed gets slower but the more heat there is he would speed up he is his speed can go up, thought if he gets too heated up his health starts going down if he's not running. So then he'll be like Webber, with all of these cool features but has really big chance of harm in specific points. Like XW can already hurt himself at rain but it's not enough so my suggestion should be for his character to nerf him a big. Where as we know that Webber would only eat meat which makes you hard to survive with him. But because meat is quite hard to get I think that if his hunger is really down he'll eat anything (including vegetables, fruits, berries etc.) until one point qhen he has like over half of his hunger but if he does eat those things then Webber would lose his sanity like eating monster meat, but because he likes meat he wouldn't lose sanity of monster meat, nor of raw meat.

Plus Wolfgang needs to be powered up a bit. I hate to have him as a character because with full belly when he has max strength his health goes down, and I think he shouldn't be having his health going down with full belly and full strength cause that'll be just making him the weakest character ever. Also I think Wolfgang should have most health (except from XW-87) than any other character may be 250 health? That would make him a character that wouldn't be weak.

From what we having be experiencing in the beta testing, new elemental properties will make WX78's water damage harder to overcome. So nerfing him for non-DLC files will make him even harder in the DLC.

I think all or some characters need a tune up to take in the weather factor.

At least rain now stands a chance against Maxwell's almighty dapper attire. It was pretty funny before how he could sit in the rain and have nothing happen to him because his sanity bonus out did the drain from rain.

Some people find comfort in the rain. He must have been one of those people.

This should probably be in the beta forum, but does Wx-78 get damaged while using an umbrella/parasol/rain hat/rain coat in the DLC?

The parasol at least don't stop the hurting......I tried it.....spring is hell for the ol' robot. >_<

And he gets wet, too.

There should be something thought about it.

It's still Beta, so things can change, but my observations so far:

  • Touchstone heat: I died in Spring, so I can't comment on his heat level. However, keep in mind that if he does heat up significantly and dies during Summer, it's pretty much insta-death before he gets 5 feet away.
  • Touchstone speed: I wasn't struck by lightning. Not sure if this is an intentional nerf, or a bug.
  • Telelocator staff: anyone using it can flee, RoG or not. Since he didn't get struck by lightning at the Touchstone, it's possible that he won't get struck here either. Rain and snow hurt him immensely though, he needs adequate protection like any other character. The snow thing will likely be changed across the board though, based on Dev comments in other threads/bug tracker.
  • Cave light: see above re: lightning strikes. He can still be struck by lightning during rainstorms though.
  • Gears: it's a perk in RoG, but it's not enough, I promise. I never, and I mean NEVER, used to sleep... I now have to constantly remind myself that it's an option so I don't spend day-after-day fighting Shadow Creatures.
  • Deerclops Eye: sanity is a huge issue in Winter. The Devs may nerf the effects for the final release, but it's still a challenge even with a Tam. I wouldn't risk eating the Eye unless super-crazy-prepared.
  • Adventure Mode/The Game Is Afoot: ummm... not sure what you're going for here. The chapters are set/specific seasons. Why would TGIA change? If it does adapt to RoG, it could be a real problem considering summer now has heatwaves. And by problem, I mean "holy crap, a whole new challenge!"
  • Food: definitely a bonus, however, it takes some real focused effort for people to get out of the habit of hoarding crockpot food. I can't even begin to tell you how many spoiled meals I've eaten and/or food that's gone to rot now.

Something you didn't mention... rain. Rain still hurts him even with the umbrella. He now needs two layers of protection, or a garment (hint, hint) that offers 100%.

You thought DS was uncompromising? RoG is brutal. All in all, a few of his perks have been nerfed but he mostly remains the same. His stats are a godsend, but his benefits in no way make the game easier. The perks other characters have can definitely be just as helpful, while some of WX's drawbacks are hitting even harder now.

Oh c'mon, he has 400 health, there is no way you can die fully healed.

That 400 health goes away surprisingly fast when it rains almost everyday for an entire season. On top of that, it's even worse when you start a new world with him in spring, as he'll die in just a few days if you can't find gears or healing items fast enough.

I can tell you don't have the DLC.

RoG is utterly horrifying. Obviously it's in beta so a lot will change, but Klei is very clearly trying to bring a lot of pretty serious challenges into DS. If you try to wing it and go into the seasons not fully prepared (except autumn, autumn is chill) you will die regardless of what character you play.

It makes sense that they won't balance characters based on an optional DLC, and therefore we'd have to consider the non-DLC versions of the characters in which case no changes have been made with plenty of time to do so.

I am not getting RoG yet because it is well... IN BETA.

I might download this for test purposes though.

I'd give it a go tbh, it's only 4 bucks and aside from some unbalanced aspects and obviously being unfinished it's already really enjoyable. Plus if you're into testing you can post feedback which only helps the devs.

RoG won't bring nerfs, just tweaks. WX is complex, while in DS he is easier (not OP) than other characters, he is a very different experience in RoG from what I have heard. Also as a side note characters can be thought of as difficulty settings. If you want a challenge, play Wes, if not, play WX.
