Cynical Cynicist
I really want anti-winter to be introduced in a dlc, really wanted that 3rd season. Ugh, we already have fire hounds...what would you do about your wooden walls and bushes? Cynical Cynicist
No way it's going to happen, but I'd love it if they'd make some "Nightmare Before Christmas" like locale. But since we have a Halloween content mod, ain't going to happen by Klei. My hopes are on our awesome modders though. *Willies are back and worse than ever! McDonalds food is TERRIFYING!* Mods are just something I can't stand to use. Sure, it really helps out with the development and growth of a game, in addition to a wide audience demanding it. It's just that they'll never be of similar or equal quality to the actual content created by the game's developers; this implies a number of things, including lack of optimization (you may be losing fps, performance, etc.), lack of aesthetic quality (face it, especially with a highly stylized game like Don't Starve, amateurs really stand out in this area), lack of consideration (I doubt anyone who creates mods takes the time to consider how it will affect EVERY aspect of gameplay), interfering with other aspects of the game (causing a mechanic to not work, overlapping with something else, more bugs, etc.) and finally the lack of genuineness (it doesn't feel like an official part of the game and may also potentially feel like cheating). You can't really go wrong with vanilla, because it's been the most tested and thought-out. Not bashing modders though, their efforts are still appreciated. You can't really go wrong with vanilla, because it's been the most tested and thought-out. Not bashing modders though, their efforts are still appreciated. i fully respect that. As a matter of fact, for this game and FTL, I didn't play mods at ALL until I had played the game for months and felt I mastered it and there was nothing else for me to do, then, I played mods to extend the game life. Due to all the DS changes, this means I'm STILL not currentlly using mods in DS. When it gets repetitive, then I'll start activating mods for variety. This way i don't feel I'm "cheating" or "diluting" the original game play feeling, yet also allow our modders to show their contributions. But respectfully, the way you posted makes it sound like you haven't tried mods and are blanket assuming based on other games. That may be so or may not be so, but just saying how it looked. As for me, I have tried them and the game is literally intended to use player mods (notice they have a Mods button, and they are instantly toggleable unlike other games where you have to pack/unpack and configure them yourself.) Anyway, if you don't like them, just toggle them off; as I said that simple. I highly recommend trying the Krampusnacht mod as an example of what could be done. If you refuse to touch a mod because it's done by a player, I can safely say it's done by a Klei employee (the awesome Bryce) as well. You can get more info (and the proper way to load it depending on if you're Steam or Standalone) at this link. But if one likes or doesn't like mods that is their decision to make. All I ask for anybody is to try a few in each game to make a fair assessment. All I ask for anybody is to try a few in each game to make a fair assessment. I have tried a few in the past and to be honest I wasn't exactly impressed. The initial challenge is finding a mod that's worthwhile and adds something meaningful to the overall game, instead of being gimmicky like a sonic character or a do-it-all staff. I've looked into the Krampusnacht mod before and it looked quite endearing, perhaps I'll try it later. Now that isn't meant to offend the modders who do, there's plenty of people who enjoy that, but that just ain't me. "Go make your own mod" you may reply, but that is like someone critisizing a singer or artist being told to go sing or make art. The Krampusnacht for one uses an existing creature, but adds an entirely different mechanic to it. And a unique feature to Krampus that hasn't been done before by any other creature. I won't spoil it though, but it's great and fits him. If there were community ribbons or badges awarded by the developers, that were mods recognized for their excellence in quality. It would foster a lot more ingenuity and creativity from most modders and give skeptical people like me some point of reference. I'd keep it at badges though; 1-10 ratings or stars tend to discourage people from downloading anything that's below about 8.5 points or 4.5 stars, as is custom with the majority of audiences that seek game reviews for reference. It'd also be a lot easier on the people recommending them. There doesn't seem to be any reason behind it. Your idea sounds like a good motivation though. There's also the badge the active members/modders from the Up and Away mod have (I contributed aswell but not that much, other people contributed aswell ^^). More modders getting a badge like that would be nice, it's a whole lot exclusive right now (although U&A adds a crapton of new content to the game and justifies it's exclusiveness to aforementioned badge). Spazmatic
A nightmare world could be interesting. Kevin showed interest in that when the suggestion got mentioned in the cave preview build stream, and it fits the bill for a place to do crazy things with. It could even have Maxwell's giant floating head in it! I got a feeling however, should it be nightmare worlds as dlc, they will be accessed like caves.... Crazy hallucinations would spawn around these corrupted, Plants would become old and dangerous and it would alter and greatly change the environment parts, like the corruption from Terraria? Klei, no matter how difficult, code this, release it as dlc and strap a price on it so you net a profit. Tulingu
Crockpot recipes that use Nightmare Fuel! You can make the scariest food there is, a McDonald's Cheeseburger. You drop manure every 12 seconds, are slowed down 33.3%, repulse all neutral creatures and attract hostile creatures with odor. These gentlemen deserve a free internetz. I lolled. diekunstler
I fifn the idea of a nightmare world to be equeally itneresting as well as all the other ideas (if not slightly more), as darkness and such seems to be a huge thing in this game. I just love the spooks in it, like the shadows and such. Too creepy, too cool. These gentlemen deserve a free internetz. I lolled. And omg yes Miss, they do, definetly.
