Your Criteria For A "good" World/map?

Recommended Posts

I know it's a bit of a subjective topic, but when it comes down to it, what kind of a world would you prefer to inhabit?

I haven't had quite much luck in finding a suitable map, because of a lack of certain resources/balance. Maybe the pig king didn't spawn. Maybe there are very few reeds.

Heck, even aesthetically a lot of them look like crap.

Take for example this:

I just tried out this world now and am up to day 5. I already hate it because of how many choke-points it has, making exploration and movement limited or a hassle. It probably doesn't have a pig king. In general I wouldn't consider the map worth playing for a long time.

On the other hand, I've reached day 365+ with this world. Sure, there are some choke-points and divided regions, but it still offers a balanced experience and somewhat resembles a real "world" or "island."

Do you guys not care about this kind of stuff? Or do you "re-roll" a lot like me and keep generating new worlds, painstakingly exploring each one until you find the ideal conditions?

I like worlds with land branch most and land loop never, making more compact starfish shaped worlds.  These often have a nice place for a base somewhere near the center of the island.

Worlds with land branch never (and land loop never) make long salamander shaped worlds which are somewhat easier to explore, but more inconvenient to live in (unless they have a useful wormhole network).

I might try this, but only if the default world generation continues to produce poor results.

I dont have many pre-requisites for a "good" world all I need is a big swamp and some rabbit holes (however far they are apart isn't too big a deal) i used to care about rocks but now there are caves for that.

If i can get a savannah next to a swamp and a cave nearby that would be perfect (beefalo don't matter to me)

I like having big savannas with beefalo and a road with pigs nearby, but there's a lot of other things I don't think about that i generally want. I end up deleting worlds in frustration a lot because things aren't quite right, a habit I'm trying to get over.

World generation doesn't matter. It all comes down to set pieces and for that only Default + maps are good.

This. I always put boons on lots, as these will potentially give me killer beehives, guardian pigmen and more. A good world to me is a world with lots of (hostile) boons, it makes them worth exploring more too!

Make sure to select the Default + preset. It'll give you things like hound mounds and tentacle maze. Just ignore the chests with items at the beginning if you want a fresh start.

I prefer land bridges and loops over not. That group aside, I like it if I have a grasslands (the light green one, not the desert,) that intersects multiple other biomes and close to a desert with Beefalo and/or lots of rabbit holes. if not Beefalo nearby, then I will hope for a pig village nearby for manure feeding. It's doable if Beefalo/pigs aren't nearby, but a pain to harvest and can take a day of traveling, harvesting and returning. Finally, I consider it a bonus if the Potato Thing farm is near said Beefalo/rabbits. for making  a base with preset basic farms already.

Everything else (swamp, rock yards, forests, caves, etc) I can travel to or make a Forward Operating/Secondary Base at.

Mine is very specific.

Savannah with beefalo near one of those "paved" paths that connect pig villages, one has to have pig king and preferably those "farm" set pieces. A cave near the pig village would be nice as well. Rocks should be abundant, a forest nearby as well.

For the record, that's called a cobblestone road. The wiki link shows you how to craft the turf (making flooring and roads) if you wish.

And that pigs can't speak a full sentence, yet live in (conveniently 'badly made") houses and craft roads makes me believe their "dumbness" is a lie so they are left alone by Maxwell....

I kept starting new games the other day with the hope I'll get a world similar to this user, to be more precise a map generating a branch like this. No luck so far. :(

Whoa~ I can't believe you like my world gen too. hmmmn. . . I have another interesting world gen that I haven't posted yet. A lone island that has a wormhole as entrance. It's pretty awesome. I think? well. . . Maybe i just got lucky. . . 3 times?

Well . . . you only need to see the map, yes? Things cant be as convenient as this. . . I think? I am only using default worlds. Not touching any of the presets.

Here's my list of what and why i need

Beefallo - Good source of protection during mating season, kinda useless 'cept for food

Pigs - These things are ULTIMATELY helpful i would've died from hound attacks long ago if it hadnt been for my pigs

Rabbit holes, lots of em - this goes without explaining

A Damn swamp - SO far on this world im in day 30 i havent found a single swamp, so im stuck with the spear until i can make a shadow manipulator -.-

Caves  and  Rocks - Caves are EXTREMELY Important to me since they basically add another layer of challenge, if i were to compare it with something i would call it the nether of don't starve

Also, could someone tell me where the hell do i find marble and the automatons i can never find them anywhere :(

If somewhere there's a neverending 5-way battle between Pigs, Merms, Tentacles, Spiders and Beefalos, then that's a good world in my book.

if that happens, I'll make all my corn popcorn and sit down and watch the show *munch munch*

Why not collect green mushrooms and make bunnies beardlings getting the fuel that way? Or is the swamp for another reason?
