Your Criteria For A "good" World/map?

Recommended Posts

Over time, I've grown to have very specific requirements for a new map. This includes having certain 'continents' on the map which don't necessarily appear on every map created, so I have to start anew a lot of times to find a suitable map. I mainly look for rockyland with rocky turf, which is in abundance only near forests of lumpy evergreens and you don't have those on every map. Additionally, I like to have more than 1 walrus camp on the map and because you can only end up with either 1 camp or 4, I only play maps with 4. In this case, 3 of those 4 camps will be pretty close to each other, so you can have some challenge there. Besides, I'd like to have mandrakes if possible, but since you can also find them in caves it's not necessarily needed. And then obviously what most other player look for as well: Enough grasslands, not too few beefalo, usefully placed wormholes and a nice place to settle.

There are actually a lot of regularities in 'Default' world generation, as in, there are pre-defined alignments of biomes that either appear or don't. Just check the surrounding of your local pig village with the pig king: There will always be dense forest nearby (or the village will be within that forest) and if you follow a path (no cobblestones) you will end up near a cave entrance. Another example: If you find lumpy evergreens on a default world, there will always be rocks nearby and some spider dens along a path that leads through the lumpy forest and the rockyland. Knowing this, I always check right after starting a new map with the console and if it tells me there are lumpy evergreens, I also know there will be patches of rockyland with rocky turf nearby.

if that happens, I'll make all my corn popcorn and sit down and watch the show *munch munch*

Why not collect green mushrooms and make bunnies beardlings getting the fuel that way? Or is the swamp for another reason?

At the point i am in my world, im in need of better weapons then the spear, i need the meat for the hambat for food, and the dark sword is simply do far up the tech tree right now, so no swamps = no tentacle spike, not to mention chesters eyebone usually appears around swamps... or was that changed?

If you can't find it in a swamp, look for it in a grassland area with beehives (but not when there are killer bee hives), particularly if there's a cobblestone road leading through those beehives. I often find the eyebone around those parts.

The Eye Bone appears anywhere now, but does seem to appear more often near (I personally find it's the cobblestone) roads, as per the Wiki link and my personal game-play confirm. Chester's attracting all enemies like a magnet has not changed :D
