Tentacles Are Almost Impossible To Kite Without Taking Damage.

They will reset there animations if you go too far but your still aggroed to them and get a free hit on you

Or they will attack when your not in range and since you got the rhythm you walk right into it i always send pigs to do it because its easyer then loosing 30% of my health and half my armor durability.

Did they change how they work? I was able to get a hit in the second they begin to recede. After they've started their receding animation they don't attack (or they didn't used to)

They stay out after you hit and run and will attack nothing and if you got the rythm you walk right back into it and die.

Isn't that a good feature?

No they instanstly go back into the ground and  when you strike them they attack instanstly and you die.

Patiently observe a Merman take dominance to Tentacles. Look at their pattern, that's where I learn how to deal with them. There is an animation before they just burrow again and that's where you can lay 2 strikes before you fall back.

Oh, the ancient wisdom of the merman is vast!

I've never had issues kiting tentacles...

the window to get an attack in is very small however. Their animations swing then twitch and swing again before letting you get the chance to hit them. Also if you dont kite FAR away enough, they are animation locked and you never get a chance to hit without being hit.

Tentacles suck and are a pain in the ass to fight because it's nearly impossible to get more than 1 hit in. However there are two instances in which it's always safe to hit it once, when it's first coming out of the ground, and when it's retracting back into the ground. It's just a matter of kiting far enough away (as darkenspirit mentioned) for it to retract. It's basically at the max range that using the attack button will auto-walk towards it.

Personally I will never even try to attack one if something else is fighting it because that's when it will surely hit you.

Two words: Ranged weapons. While not a fan of the Blow Darts (or all the darts' family overall cost in resources in general,) this is where I am one. 100 points of health damage per blow dart. But it costs a Hounds' Tooth, two reeds and the rare Snow Bird feather for a one-shot attack. If this is too much use Boomerangs or any of the staff weapons you can make, or hire pigs or let swamp merms and spiders eventually do the work for you. .
