What are some items that you never use for their *actual* purpose?

  1. 1. When you craft/use Walter's rounds, is it for decor or for actual ammo for your slingshot?

Probably mostly for decoration instead, idk.

For example, some items I never use for their actual purpose are...

Walter's Rounds

Never have I ever once used Walter's Rounds for his Slingshot Ammo, only for floor-decor.

I can't even believe this is a character specific item you can only get by crafting Wolfgang's gym, it is farrrr too cute for decor imo!

And I think it goes without saying that I don't ever really use walls/fences for "protection", strictly decor, especially broken walls.

Ok wbu?

I never use the lazy deserter for teleportation purposes. Even in my multiplayer worlds, I only ever use it to tank my sanity. The one time I did use it to teleport my friends to base, it was apparent that they didn't know how it worked before.

I really think it is an underrated mechanic, especially with Wortox and Winona having easy cross-map teleportation for them only

Ooooo! As a Maxwell main I've deff used that before.

Actually I guess boats would be another thing on my list, I think I craft them more for a bridge between biomes than I do for using them as an actual boat to travel through the ocean with :P

Arguably the One-Man Band is not being used for its intended purpose when using it to mass tend a garden, which is the only thing I use it for.

Before the RWYS update that answer is just for pretty Hutch sounds.

Not sure if it counts but I use lunar bearger/clops to kill Bee Queen. All you need is a bush hat and they'll eventually aggro on each other and (usually) BQ dies first and leaves the other with only a little bit of health left.

Walls can sometimes be useful for protection. The moonstone event is one example, but you can also make a decent fortress to hide in while you use bramble traps as Wormwood to kill hounds (or just shoot them as Walter). A hound defense fort is best built around a wormhole.

Oh, also, does using them to pen in certain mobs count as protection? I'll use fences to pen in catcoons to their dens so they don't kill Glommer, or to wall frogs off from my base if I'm close to a pond.

gold rounds, lucky pouches, flowers(from butterflies) and shellbells are super cute as garden boarders especially coupled with the lamb idol or pillow fight pit kit~  i also use bushhats as fake plants for cramped spaces and the deck illuminator as a pretend light for the garden since the blue skin is super pretty(it is too resource-heavy to be a viable actual light). i also will use glommer flowers as garden flowers and abigail flowers as border edges & filler for gaps in flowerbeds

I don't think I've ever actually worn Walter's special hat for more than like 10 minutes of all my total gameplay with him, but I love to use the skin that makes it look like a bush and scatter it around builds like a plant.

I'm going to reinterpret this question as items that I do not see other players on public servers use, because that's an easier thing to parse than the developer's unmentioned intentions. Off the top of my head

  • Chilled amulets and themantidotes are great for cooling down in summer. Combine either one of them with even just a single piece of clothing and the heat is basically not a mechanic.
  • The one man band is great at making farm plants happy, it has basically infinite durability since you just need to swap it on for a very brief moment.
  • A bush hat or snurtle shell can be used to wait out the nightmare phase in safety, and if combined with a bee queen crown will restore a ton of sanity while you're doing it if you're near a fissure. Unless they changed it, they can also dodge Woodie's curse if you're hiding in one as the night starts. You don't need to stay in them.
  • The axe is a great weapon, being only 20% weaker than a spear while being craftable by hand with only some twigs, a single flint, and no research.
  • The fashion melon looks freaking awesome and is BIS for the whole game.
