Unbuff the tent and seista

Recommended Posts

It is no secret that the only reason Klei decided to buff these two items by 2.5x their original durability was because of the superiority of Walter's tentroll having 10 uses and only requiring some twigs and grass. Its portable, has over 6 uses, doesn't break to earthquakes, and is just overall better. They could say it's to "better reflect the cost" but I disagree. 6 uses in itself is already plenty and I think it makes sense that the tentroll has more uses since you are going out of your way to play a character demanding a high skillset. Now this might sound selfish but hear me out, what if the sewing kit was buffed to 10 uses instead of 5 to "better reflect costs" since Winona can do it alot cheaper. Its a slippery slope we shouldn't level items otherwise there would be no point in specialization.

You know what how about we just nerf the tentroll to 6 uses since its incredibly cheap as well as unbuffing the tent and seista I'm ok with that too.

When the changes were made, klei buffed the health regen on the walter tent (Almost sure about this, but may require checking if it is true)

In my sincere opinion, walter got the "worst" buff, it would have been better if his tent had more durability too

I'd rather adjust tents to be repairable with sewing kits. Anyone who has ever owned a tent will know that you can hand repair tents.

In game, I use tents for decoration, but they're liable to break because people use tents for their intended purpose and then what happens is when broken, cannot be rebuilt in the same place without dismantling 1000 surrounding structures

By buffed you mean player:AddTag("efficient_sleeper")?

Anyone with this tag gets regen for half the hunger it applies to all sleeping items, Walter always had this.

Genuinely I really wish it was. Trusty Tape is unbelievably more convenient than sewing kits to the point that I'd always rather switch to Winona and make a stack of it at a time than have to deal with crafting sewing kits past the very early game.

I just wished they buffed the sanity gain from Walters camper tent to 2 per second to match the tents hp gain of 2 per second.

Before the camper tent made sense having 1 sanity and 1 hp per second because that's the rate Walter takes damage to both health and sanity while wearing pinecone hat.

Sanity is the more important stat for Walter to recover fast not health. Because his max health is only 130 while max sanity is 200. You still have to wait forever in the tent to max out sanity before a boss fight.

No, I said health regen buff.

The health regen was 1hp/sec, now it is 2hp/sec

it's kinda like Year of the Beefalo update, just on a smaller scale. The perk itself technically got better(higher tent hp regen/picking up and gathering items while mounted), but due to its alternatives getting buffed as well(regular tent having 2.5 as much uses as before/beefalos becoming good and viable), the perk lost some aspects of what made it stand out(a cheap tent that's more durable/a cheap mount that can follow you into caves).

However, I think the portable tent is still in a pretty decent place. It's, well, a portable tent, which is still a decent enough niche to fill.

I don't think I've ever even used these items in DST. I've used a spider den (infinite durability, BTW) to sleep as Webber, but only for Winter's Feast reasons.

The stat restoration from crock pot foods is just too good to waste time lying on the ground doing nothing. Comparing to Walter's item is missing the forest for the trees.

In DS, sleeping passed time instantly, which was useful. In DST, it's just a really slow eating animation. (Of course it drains hunger, so you need to eat anyway.)

Bad take imo, it's either you put a lot of effort into making a tent and using it or a lot of effort in traveling and gathering foodstuffs to make your healing food.

Healing food wins most of the time due to always being able to carry them, thus making tents obsolete mostly.

But tents are strong enough if you wanna make a temporary refuge for healing. Good for converting hunger to health and sanity especially in cases when you lack healing foods. But costs that and travel to that said location.

I think your request is bad and I don't even use these items in my gameplay.

One can be picked up and carried around and reused, the others have to be placed and left at the spot their places I think it’s balanced.

I don’t play as Walter much, so I have no idea if his tents are exclusive to him or if other characters can use them, but even if others can’t use them- you can’t deny that being able to pack up and carry it with you to a new location isn’t a powerful perk.

Pretty much since DST released, and sleeping was no longer a means to bypass night instantly, threads were asking for a buff to tents. Long before Walter existed. I doubt that the tentroll had any real weight in the decision.

All characters have access to use/dismantle/carry/place the tentroll, the only Walter-exclusive part of it is it's crafting recipe. It's possible to swap to Walter, craft a bunch of tents, and then use them at your leisure as any other character. Surprisingly nice to have in caves...

Like I get where your coming from but honestly unlike how year of the beefalo where Walter's biggest niches was more or less overshadowed I don't think much was lost in this scenario.

Gonna have to disagree here portable tent is very useful especially during early game activities like ruins.

Personally I feel like what they should do is rework his campfire stories sanity gain since it requires him to be completely stationary it should recover sanity as fast as options like Wendy's sisturn.
