Dreadstone Helmet's art

I constantly see criticism's about this particular hat, with comments about both the hat and a desire for skins for it.

I decided to try and take a look at what could be improved about it, so I made these real quick rushed mock ups. Not my prettiest work, but they're examples! I'm not trying to change the design, it is what it is, just trying to make it more appealing where it rests.

Something to note that I instantly noticed when comparing it to other hats is that it rests ssuupperrr high up on the head. Easy fix, just change the pivots! I think simply lowering it helps a lot, it resting super high up gives the illusion of a massive forehead.
You could also make it taller over all when lowering if, if that's what the original intention was.

I agree - While I haven't reached the late-game scenario where this would be obtainable in a world after the date it was added, it still looks a little silly. Kind of like a beta placeholder.
Even if it's meant to be funny-looking instead of sophisticated and mighty, a design that implements it as a more solid (and better shaped!) helmet would be preferable. Right now it looks like a chunk of rock you put on top of your head

i like how it looks in your left edit

edit: i always liked how goofy it looks but i prefer your edit, makes it look even goofier like wilson wearing a rock hat that is so big for his head

i think if they made it more square-y like the scrapped marble helmet from the forge, it'd look more appeasing to the eyes. at least my eyes, instead of looking like a comically large spear. i made a little mockup on paint to see what it'd look like

I'm not an artist so these things don't always make sense to me - I want skins for this item badly b/c I use it a lot for its mechanics but it always feels off visually.  Especially when wearing the full dread set, my character looks like some stone wedge.

Every day I wish the Terraria shadow armor skins were for dreadstone, but because Dreadstone didn’t exist during that update it just wasn’t meant to be...

fr Thul Club has some of the best skins in the game but was always tough to justify...  now its just wasted potential T_T

You actually inspired me to fire up my tablet and finish my concept for a pitch of a dreadstone armor skin

The art style has a bit of a clash and I'm admittedly not great at color theory, so I just used the dropper for the colors. 

I think klei can do a lot better work than I can, but this is just an idea I had. Something like this would be cool if done well imo.

 

I hope klei does a pig helm kind of thing.

Looks really weird on wilson, but I still really hope we get a wild boar skin for the dreadstone helm and I truly think klei's artists could do this idea tons more justice than me

I like the look honestly, makes it look like the survivor got a big boulder of dreadstone and just started taking chunks out of it, I think the design is supposed to resemble knapped obsidian, especially with the sharpened bits at the top, like this

 

th-1242124006.jpg.0eaba53134abe5a3d60f1508bad7ac95.jpgThe issue I have with the design is more or less how the proportions look off, if they wanted to go for a boulder on the head they could of had straps securing it to the survivors head like the ice cube; or maybe a chinstrap made out of shadow?

Overall, I do think the actual look of the armour is good, I just have some issues with the presentation of it.
